It seems to have been mildly successful. While of course some of the more vehement voices are skewering him as we speak, a lot of the moderate crowd seems to have realized that he has them over a barrel: if they flame him they prove him right.

didn't even realize I had any. They might be wrong though, since one lists as "expired" but still counts as one "Infraction Point".
