I went to four different medi-clinics last night trying to get my son's head stitched closed. He tripped while we were out walking the dog and hit his head on the edge of a stone planter. By the time I'd picked him up and called my wife to come pick us up his face was covered in blood. Luckily I'm old-fashioned and always carry a handkerchief (though cleaning him up a bit didn't do much to make him happier).

The first clinic refused to accept us since they'd apparently had people waiting for 4 hours already. The next one we went to was deserted (good sign!) but as soon as we walked in they told us they were closed despite us getting in 10 minutes before closing time. So we went to the hospital emergency where the wait time was "at least one hour, probably much more". We stuck it out there for a few minutes and called a couple other places before getting ahold of a clinic that could guarantee seeing us an hour from that time.

So we hopped back in the car and drove the few blocks to that clinic. Not too long after that we saw a young doctor with an alligator on his shirt. By this time my son was totally cool with the whole thing, having checked out his still-bleeding cut in the mirror and hugging the teddy bear he'd gotten from the hospital. That didn't last long after the doctor glued his cut closed though. He'd warned us that the glue tends to pull those little hairs a bit and kids generally didn't like it. He screamed for the next half an hour, but we finally got him home and calmed down watching some Harry Potter.

He fell asleep during the movie, so that was easy. The hard part was waking up every two hours to make sure he didn't slip into a coma. Lots of fun.
