That's a good one.
Solemn Simulacrum on
Mimic Vat was just disgusting. I loved it.

Eh. I would prefer repeatable removal to repeatable ramp any day.

If I remember correctly, the Infect event deck was conceptually sound, though light the balance of Inkmoth Nexus needed. Perhaps not for Standard at the time of its release, but close now to some of the lists seen in Modern (minus fetches, of course).

Ramp, creature, and card draw. What's not to love?
For removal, though,
Massacre Wurm.

You didn't draw a card when Solemn left the battlefield from Mimic Vat. Mimic Vat exiles the token. Solemn is a death trigger.

PS: I had a lot of opponents try and tell me otherwise, which is the only reason I remember the interaction off of the top of my head. It was the same reason that Wurmcoil Engine with Mimic Vat wasn't 100% certifiably insane.

Solemn was both ETB and death trigger...you didn't get the 2nd card each turn, but you still got to pull another land out of your deck so that you were drawing more straight gas each turn. Considering that one of the goals of the deck was to find a demon and start a tutor/casting chain, it was pretty effective.

I had a lot of people try and draw cards off of Mimic Vat tokens of Solemn. Big nono.

Why are the people at your LGS illiterate?
That's not a complicated rules interaction - assuming one has a basic level of rules knowledge, you just have to read the words on the cards to know that an ability that triggers off dying will not trigger off exiling.

Agreed...I remember the same with the Coils as you said. Heartless Summoning was a deck that lots of people picked up without understanding all its quirks.

NBW continues to distinguish himself...those are some badass sigs, gentlemen!
For anyone who is considering getting into Bx of any sort and needs cards, there is some value to be had in the Underworld Herald event deck that releases at the end of this month. List is $19.95 and at that price it is value, if you can find it. SCG is listing it for $29.95, but I found $24 earlier and I think Collector's Cache will likely go low end when they list it. Here's the deck; rares easily range over $35 and it contains money UC's as well:
[deck]Underworld Herald - BNG Event Deck[/deck]
Yeah, I noticed this too. It's a half powered version of the mono-black aggro list.. pretty good value.

That always annoys the piss out of me.
"Path to Exile your Dark Depths token."
"It's Indestructible."
"Yeah, so Exile it."
"It. Is. Indestructible."
"Yeah. So. Exile. It."
"Indestructible, retard."
"Exile, retard."
"L2P you fucking noob..."

Of course, you could always just explain to your opponent that Indestructible doesn't protect from Exile effects and call a judge if they have any questions as soon as it becomes clear that they don't understand the interaction, but then they won't be on tilt for the rest of the round from looking like a stupid asshole.

Yes. I know. Multiple ways to get advantage though: the opponent is taking 2
damage, losing a blocker, or killing it. Or just use two
Heartless Summoning to get the ramp, shuffle, and card draw.

I remember one time I was playing BR Infect, and my opponent calls a judge on me because I didn't send my Phyrexian Crusader to the graveyard after a Slagstorm. He kept exclaiming "It hits him too because it doesn't target!" This guy would not accept the idea that he can't be damaged by red spells either, so he was not assigned any damage.
Judge comes over, explains to him that he's a moron, and he literally just
picked up his cards and left.
These are the types of people I am glad to no longer have to play with.

Reminds me of the guy in the finals of the M14 Pre-release who didn't know how double strike worked (he insisted you could assign regular damage to the player if chump dies on First Strike.)
Although to be fair, i play a lot and still have brain farts from time to time.
You know what really grinds my gears? Not using the proper tokens.
I lost at FNM because Voice Elementals, Pack Rats and Brimaz Carts were all the same fucking anime girl tokens. Grow up you idiots.

In times like these I rely on some old wisdom I've heard.
"Just think for a moment about exactly how dumb the average person is. Now realize that half of them are worse."

Also if it bothers you that much, go out of your way to get proper tokens. I carry at least 2 of each relevant token in Standard with me in a small deckbox that I don't use anymore. Force them onto your opponent, a judge will usually side with you so that board state is properly upheld.
Right now I have Elementals, Soldiers, Centaur, Rats, Cats, and Voice of Resurgence. Beyond that, I also have relevant Emblems, and for any token that I don't have a token for, there are X/X Shapeshifter tokens in the box.

That's taking it to a whole other level.
I always have multiples of tokens/emblems that my cards can produce, but I hadn't thought to bring
all the relevant tokens in the meta.

It takes just one too many people counting on you forgetting which token card is which creature token. I used to think people were being helpful when they let me use their tokens. Since then I've learned it's because there are people who do shit like this all the time.
Sometimes I use black and white dice to represent rats and soldiers, number showing to represent quantity in play. It's hard to tap a die, though.

I do the same as Alex, but go one step further and bring multiple tokens for an entire set or block, for draft or sealed. I sleeve them and still can fit them in an old Guildpact deckbox.
