Kaze, now make an offering to Purphoros. It's only fair. He saved your nephew, so the least you can do it set something meaningful on fire.
Any suggestions?

Question to those that have played at higher level competitions: how do you you guys go about training for the event? My group has pretty much built a gauntlet of decks and will change it during our testing as we see or think the meta will shift to. Asking because I want to raise my group's level of play.

Building a gauntlet is good, especially in an established meta, but don't go too crazy the week before the tournament. Burnout is definitely a thing - you don't want to be tired of Magic heading into a 10 hour tournament. And you need to get rest.

So my fancy limited edition metal album from germany just arrived, and had a free bonus cd with it that the record company sent.
It's called 'Australian Metal Alliance Vol. IV' and features such australian classics as Powerwolf (German) and Alestorm (Scottish)...
Not sure what that's about... I dunno if any of the other bands are actually australian, cause those are the only 2 I recognized.
Might type out the names and let Z or MDU let me know, if either cares at all.

I'm not a huge metal fan, I usually just play non-vocal music (I know for shame) so the only band I know is AC/DC

My group has pretty much built a gauntlet of decks and will change it during our testing as we see or think the meta will shift to. Asking because I want to raise my group's level of play.
Honestly, playtesting well is probably enough to get you on the pro tour. Most people playtest horrible, myself included. Ways how me and my friends, including Pro tour players and GP winners playtest:
Facebook. "THis deck is sweet you should play it." "whatever"
Day before tourney: *see two guys playing mono-red together* *adds 2 nylea's disciple to sideboard taking out 2 RANDOM CARDS*
Boredom: Play different
netdeck every week for a month with zero testing because, fuck it, i'm better then most of my opponents so it shouldn't matter.
Denial: Mono-red'll be good THIS wekk.
Phone Call: We're going to san diego this weekend for a PTQ, want to tag, I got an extra deck?
You get the picture.
The best thing if you have actual time...Say you have 6/8 people. Make sure everyone has the same goals. From there, you want to build a gauntlet of no more then 6 decks. You aren't going to be able to find the actual matchup percentages, so really, you're just trying to get a "feel" for matchups. You want to do at least a 10 game set vs. all the tier 1 decks at a ratio of say 4/6 pre/post board and really, you want to get much more rigourous then that, but it's a start. It's often good to have people wandering around spectating matches to add outside insight into games.
While running a deck through the gauntlet, you're generally just finding out the decks viability. For actually fixing matchups,
that's a more intensive process that involves logging plenty of results and taking notes on how particular cards are fairing. You also should feel free to make changes during any and all phrases of playing. I've brewed some decks and make plenty of changes within small frames of time jamming games on 'trice for instance.
Never underestimate outside influence. Sometimes you're an idiot and don't know what your doing, and sometimes it's just subtle things you're missing, but either way there will be occasions where matchups actually are/can be favorable if you just change the way you play and/or build your deck a little bit differently. Think Reid Duke playing Jund vs. Junk reanimator last year. Everyone thought it was clearing in Junks favor, and then Reid went in the tank, figured out a plan, and started crushing the deck at every turn including winning his GP vs. it in the finals.
Finally, practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Don't be sloppy during testing or you
will reinforce bad habits. Hope this helped.
