I channel teh Nuwen

In the application's settings, is your headset set as the default device?

Are the sounds for one coming out of your speakers or just not at all?
No, only default communications device. When I attempt to set my headset to default device, nothing happens. D:

And the sounds from the game come through my speakers, yes.

Also, anyone who's into Fantasy novels should check out Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive - it's definitely some of the best stuff I've read.
I knew there was a reason I like you people!

Sanderson is currently my favorite author, pretty much. And I must echo the recommendation. Any of his books or short stories are AMAZING.

Also, I bought and read Words of Radiance, the newest book in The Stormlight Archive the day it came out... SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

Please tell me you've read it too, red ;-; I need someone to discuss the feels with, been holding them in ;-;

Picked it up about a week ago - according to my Kindle I'm 80% done so I should be there in the next few days.

I strongly recommend the Name of the Wind series, for what it's worth

I feel like the protagonist is going to be someone who weilds one of these weapons...
You'd be incorrect.

The Kingkiller Cronicle is pretty good, though I wish Rothfuss would give some updates regarding the final book.

kingkiller chronicle, that's it

also joe abercrombie is probably my favorite right now, his book The Heroes is the most entertaining fantasy I've read in a while (much better if you've read the other books set before it, but not required)

I second the Rothfuss recommendation and the Erikson recommendation.

I guess I'm just one of those literary fiction > genre fiction snobs
Your guess is correct. Genre fiction is perfectly fine when done safely. The "literary" label is totally arbitrary.

They're sooo good, especially the audiobooks (though I think ghost story is the weakest in the series). LMK when you finish the last one, my friends are way behind and I need someone to talk about it with.

The series is very good, though the first 2 books are definitely the weakest (Still perfectly readable though) because he's finding the footing for the characters. Skin Game comes out in May,

Magic puzzle for you all because while I'm on the work VPN I can't get to Gatherer.

Scenario: Enduring Ideal is active, so I can't cast spells. I can use red, white, blue and colorless cards. There is a 1CMC artifact in my graveyard that I want to put into play. Can it be done?

I don't really care how convoluted it gets. If there's a way to get my Elixir of Immortality into play from my graveyard with Enduring Ideal or something that works around Enduring Ideal, I want to know.

Protomatter Powder can put the artifact back onto the battlefield if it was in play before you resolved your Enduring Ideal.

Same deal with a Goblin Welder and a nearby artifact, or a Sun Titan.

Thanks Ham, but I want to assume I don't have those nice things in play. I have to be able to do this with the Enduring Ideal or with something in my hand that's not the same as casting a spell (cycling?).

Find Sneak Attack for a Sun Titan

If you want to get Sun Titan into your hand then use Parallel Thoughts

Valuable lesson learned today.
I was running a fill in D&D session, and since two of missing players were the one's driving main plot, and the third absent player was driving the sideplot I opted to run a one shot involving some of the NPCs the players have run into before (many of whom have filled in for missing party members in the past). The problem was that I set ip the adventure for characters of the player's optimization level, and the NPCs are way more optimized than that (a "Batman" wizard, a barbarian/warblade übercharger, and a healer/area control crusader), and suffice it to say they made a quick mess of the combat encounters, but the drama of the session thankfully was detective work (finding and saving children from being sacrificed to nerull). The warblade throwing out an average of 160 damage
per hit on a charge (with a possible 5-8 total attacks), the wizard buffing the party and keeping the enemies separated, and the crusader keeping them in place really made combat a joke when they figured out how everything worked. I see now what I do to GMs when I pull out all the stops as a player. Ostensibly they are balanced to work together, the wizard has very few direct offensive spells, the warblade can only put out those obscene numbers on a charge (and his defenses become nearly negligible when he does it), and the crusader's damage output is relatively low, but is really good at keeping things locked down, while providing the occasional timely heal

I did though. I never got much of a chance to play with the weaboo fightin' magic classes but they looked fun. Challenging players who know how to build characters without the game becoming rocket tag is tough. Challenging the player instead of the character is a good way to do that. The other one I think is to make resting difficult either with time limits, ambushes, or just making health recovery items/spells scarce. Actually, I like attacking their resources plan the more I think about it.
