Honestly I could make a post that says in such clear detail why Standard is better than Legacy that it would convert all but the thickest busheled neckbeards (LMD, Zem) but I'm in a parking lot so I will spare you the tl;dr

You could, I still won't care, I still have on average more fun playing legacy than standard, and I would still give you that I prefer beating someone to death with pack rat than "Untap, Splinter twin, kill you?"

Not really, the neckbeards on The source were kind enough to discuss it for a period of time on the pimp thread.

I don't get why everyone fawns over legacy. It's the cheesiest format of them all.
Ignoring the fact that the pros enjoy Legacy because the cards are *their* cards and *they* built the decks. They're forty years old, loving every minute of what got them hooked.

The Legacy envy that budgo's and scrumps have is alarming, because they don't even understand why they like Legacy. They're still trying to fit in, even after high school. I have to tell them why they like it, and they have to listen.
At the Theros prerelease a guy that's basically this was my quarter finals opponent. While we were playing he kept going on and on about legacy, turn 2 wins, and creatureless decks. Then half the LGS sees the price tag on those decks and it's like some badge of
neckbeard honor to even have a deck in legacy.

That guy sounds like a douche as turn 2 wins aren't that common in legacy (usually a deck can have a semi consistent turn 3 before wizards decides to start banning things)

I like legacy for the power level of the cards; basically the better player gets to win a higher % of the time in more powerful formats because there are more decision points.

At the same time, building or tuning a legacy deck isn't a mystical art like it's made out to be. Much like everything in magic, players exaggerate and make grandiose claims about the skills taken for their action.

f you think taking a Magic career to figure out when you should cast Brainstorm makes you better than a Standard player, you're wrong. You're hiding beneath banned and broken cards in an obsolete forum that the games creators no longer care about. Posting the words "skill" and "intensive" doesn't make something "skill intensive" until you provide a thorough and well-explained argument to support it. I'll wait.

I would never again play a format with a shitty spell like Stoneforge Mystic.
Goddamit. My thoughts exactly.
- It's expensive as fuck.
- It's little to no fun.
- There is no fucking balance.

Controlled environment of standard is just more fun, healthy and competetive.
And cheaper.

In the end, Standard is more expensive if you continue to play for many years. In the eternal formats, you can invest in the deck of your choice and play it for years with little to no changes. Standard is constantly changing and card values fluctuate greatly.

Just a thought

Well, if you take it seriously enough, your winnings should help alleviate the cost a bit beyond the first $300 or so.

For the rest of us scrumps, it's still $200+ per season.

I miss playing Legacy, it's one of the things I miss most about living in Florida. There's no scene for it here. I enjoyed playing brews and hitting people with swords. I guess I could do that in Modern, but the card pool just isn't as much fun.

Also I've been playing so much Shandalar lately that I feel like any deck not playing Contract from Below is bad. :(

I like Standard a lot right now though. It's a lot better than people give it credit for. I know a lot of people aren't thrilled because the power level was so high this time last year and now it's markedly lower, but despite that, the diversity in the format is unreal.
