the digimon fanbase is really intense and dedicated and also apparently the series is way better than the pokemon one(?)

i spent most of tonight talking about pokemon with some west coast friends.
my ideal team of 6 with one per generation was:
gengar
tyranitar
metagross
lucario
volcarona
aegislash

this wasn't like "ideal team that i would play with competitively" but you know what i was going for hopefully.

gen 1 was all about starmie, gengar, dragonite, farfetch'd, the cubone line, lapras, and scyther excluding legendaries

it may have just been because of the tcg but i was always really into "one-stage" pokemon like electabuzz and scyther in gen 1, but retrospectively none of them were ever as good as the tcg versions.

pre-physical/special attack type split hitmonchan was the actual worst

i always wanted a fire grass or fire bug and then they made volcarona and my dreams came true.

it's like i'm really hardcore about pokemon but i'm also a big softie. i liked gengar because he was the only ghost and i didn't know the special stat as a single stat made him OP as fuck. i didn't know how good tyranitar was i just thought he was really cool looking. i kind of knew how good metagross was at the time but he was this robot that had a giant punch attack that only it learned. lucario is this cool ninja wolf dude who's too cool for school look at him. volcarona was a type combo i wanted for like 4 generations. aegislash was a joke pokemon at first because i wasn't feeling anything gen 6 but then the idea of a floating ghost sword turned itself into my favorite thing.

(almost) all of the guys i like are OU tournament staples but that's not why i like them but it also doesn't hurt

For competitive fighting? I wasn't involved back then. Favorite just because? Mewtwo, of course. I also always really liked Kabutops, Haunter/Gengar, Hitmonchan, Scyther and Charmanders ev line.

I really liked Mewtwo in the first movie. Pretty well developed character by Pokemon standards.
