Happy to see all those tokens in Khans of Tarkir. Tokens by far was one of the best archetypes I have ever played.

I see 5 cards out of the 44 spoiled that produce tokens.

And there are 54 other cards that reference tokens in Theros block and M15. <<shrug>>

I don't know about Sarkan. Seems worse than Stormbreath dragon in a lot of situations.

He's actually better in a lot of situations.

The main issue with Sarkhan that I see right now is being Downfalled in response to +1, or Pillar of Lighted. Other that that, he is SBD and a 4 dmg removal spell in one. Either way, I pre-ordered them, because I am sure price will go up and I am sure I will probably be playing atleast 2 of them in a deck.

the chump blocking is potentially annoying but that is about it
i think i would rather have the ultimate than monstrous.

Also doesn't die to elspeth, but a deck playing elspeth would most likely play BLight

My personal rule for pre-orders is to never buy anything more than $5, and usually try to avoid speculating unless something will clearly find a home in Standard. Low-risk specs pay off, and while Sarkhan is good, this doesn't seem to be a high-reward spec. The only reason a standard card should rise above $20 is if it is played in many decks, or played in the best deck as a 4-of. It takes both of these to make a $40 card (think bonfire). Sarkhan seems be more like t-maw or stormbreath than bonfire, so I think there's a much better chance of him saying at $15 for a long time than $30+.

And I don't think it's wise to compare the cards based upon what removal kills them. Historically, we've seen some of the most important removal spells in a new standard environment come from the new set.

I personally would not buy Sarkhan at anything above $20. He will probably settle at around $15 and perhaps lower depending on the rest of the spoilers.

I don't think its enough better than stormbreath dragon (which I have) to justify the cost. I also think it will likely go down.

You dont need 100% tokens card to make tokens good. Lingering souls reprinted would make them good - 1 good card that makes evasive tokens would be good enough.
Looking at the Flying Spirits made by Abzan Ascendancy (one use only gavony township + later tokens generator + sweeper protection), Mazdu Ascendancy (protection from anger/drown, token generator), Sorin (quite good pump, good evasive token generator).

Nissa is still selling for $40 and is at best a two-of in Jund Planeswalkers. I love Mono Green, but it's definitely not a tier 1 deck at the moment. Who's playing all of these Nissas?
Planeswalkers just play by different rules these days. If it's remotely playable, it will pre-sell at at least $20. I'd even be interested to see how much Tibalt would pre-sell for in this envoronment; Jace got universal hate and it still pre-sold for $20. SCG and CFB will go out of their way to make sure it stays that high regardless of how much it's actually played, because PLANESWALKER.
Nissa comes down against me consistently enough online that I feel the numbers must be higher than 1-2

if I run 8 fetchlands in my mono colored deck, that means I virtually have 52 cards in my deck rite?
Posted: Tue Sep 02, 2014 10:58 pm
by Second Harkius
The fetchlands are pre-selling at $20. What a joke.
I'll quit or play a mono colored deck before I go back to paying $20 for lands in Standard. Though I suppose even mono-colored decks might run fetch lands for Delve or something.
....and with the emergence of fetchlands, so too comes the emergence of the budjcas players.

We're going to see two years of FOS making subpar decks because they can't afford the cards to be competitive and then getting all defensive and insisting their choices aren't based on money.

"Who is this clown?" Possibly the most insulting thing you could ever say to someone.
Implying that:
1. Said person is a clown
2. Not even a well known clown

It has been mathematically proven that deck thinning is largely a myth. You need to crack like five to get any advantage.

I just offered my LGS owner $14 for every fetchland he opens on release day. I guess I'm not FoS anymore.
Unless there's a Forests of Salvation because I've gone full Kibler over the past year.

Now you'll slowly start winning more and more and eventually abandon your roots because you're a C-tier pro like Zemanjaski.

To be fair, most people on this site aren't really competitive.
I'd say, Z, Khaos, L_D, Purp, Pedros, and Myself are about it, with Kait and MDU doing the modo thing.
Everyone else plays when they can, but me and everyone else I mentioned along with myself are the only ones who actually travel to big events semi-regularly while also having realistic ambitions of doing well.

I have no ambitions of doing well. I know I'm not that good and won't be going to a GP anytime soon. It doesn't bother me. I just like to get in some games when I can. I got other things going on in my life right now that need more attention.

I DO need to (unfortunately) sink money to magic now though because I'm def gonna need fetches for the next year or so. When the full spoiler comes out, I'm gonna brew like mad for a week since my LGS is having a GPT 2k the day after set release.
I'm just assuming that I'm gonna play some red or black aggro deck.
