The only deck that actually wants to play Leyline of sanctity is mono u omniscience, which I can't imagine is a favorable matchup to begin with
@khaos: to my knowledge it also isn't played in paper

Leyline is in some builds of OmniTell.

Whoa, I didn't even see that post, LM, since I'm on my phone.
It's like you knew what I was gonna say before I said it. Mind blown.

A friend of mine won an SCG IQ, so we're road tripping to the Invitational in Seattle this December. I'm planning on playing in both opens, but I don't have any Legacy decks to borrow, and don't have the money to build anything terribly expensive. What would be a good starting point for a Mono Red Burn list?

Do you have fetch lands that can search for Mountains?

It is a valid question. If he does, he probably goes for the list that won the Open a few weeks ago. If not, he uses something similar to my current list.

Go back a page or two. I think there's a fetchless build posted that's pretty darn good.

I know it's a valid question. It just sounded funny the way you answered it.

Too many people who only can fetch for dirty islands and not the one true land type.

I'd very likely be able to borrow a set of Scalding Tarns and probably Arid Mesas as well.

If you can get 8 fetchlands, I would suggest using the list that won the SCG Open in Vegas a few weeks ago as a baseline. It doesn't matter what fetches you use as long as they can get Mountains.
[deck]
Creatures
4 Goblin Guide
3 Grim Lavamancer
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
Lands
12 Mountain
8 Fetchlands
Spells
2 Sulfuric Vortex
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Price of Progress
3 Searing Blaze
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
Sideboard
2 Ensnaring Bridge
3 Relic of Progenitus
3 Vexing Shusher
2 Mindbreak Trap
2 Searing Blood
3 Smash to Smithereens
[/deck]
I prefer my sideboard being a bunch of 3-ofs but if Miracles starts taking off, we might be back in the market for the Shushers.

If you can't get fetchlands, this is what I have been running with some success:

Miracles is pretty heavily played, and there are a lot of random Chalice of the Void decks, I think I'd feel safer with the 3 Shushers. I also get to say "Shhhh" every time I activate it like Patrick Sullivan during the SCGVegas final

For my next experiment, I will try substituting my Keldon Marauders for
Young Pyromancers. They don't have the immediate impact that Marauders do, but might be more useful in the more grindy fights.

What matchup would you consider "grindy"? The only one I can think of is UWR delver.

The BUG decks can get that way, especially if they have discard. YP is a better card than Marauders. I just need to make sure it doesn't slow me down too much against the combo decks.

Don't screw around with Keldon Marauders or Young Pyromancer. Just go f'ing kill them with Flame Rift. So what if you're running Eidolon? YOLO.

Jeez, I'm so close to having all the cards, I may as well build this deck to play on MTGO.

It is surprising how easily you can get the cards for this. One of the two premium decks puts you 90% of the way there, especially if you have the fetches from Modern.

Do it, ham. Soon your journey toward the Burn side will be complete.
Not to be confused with Side burns.

I played Rb burn in Modern for a while, this shouldn't be a big stretch. I imagine the tough part will be recognizing the other decks and playing correctly against them.

The challenging thing is playing around spell pierce/daze.
Other then that, you should be squared away if you're familiar with burn.

A few questions:
1) How often does a T1 kill occur? How do you stop it?
2) Why do some burn decks online have
Ashen Rider in the sideboard?
3) Relic of Progenitus vs Leyline of the Void?
4) Skullcrack or no Skullcrack MD/SB?
5) NO fetchlands

?

Ashen Rider is for the Sneak and Show matchup, but I don't know about questions 1 and 3.

I'm not sure if I understand the ruling here but doesn't Emrakul the Aeons Torn dance all over Ashen Rider or can you target it?
Also doesn't Searing Blood/Blaze seem bad in Legacy? Some list are running 6-8 MD

1) They aren't common but happen often enough to consider. Almost all are Reanimator or Storm so we use things like Mindbreak Trap and graveyard hate to fight them.
2) What happens is both creatures enter the battlefield, then Ashen Rider triggers. Since it is a creature and not a spell at that point, Emrakul's protection fails and goes away.
3) Personal preference. Leyline helps prevent losing on the draw on turn 1. However, it is uncastable any other time. Relic is slower but can at least cycle if you draw them later in the game.
4) I don't like Skullcrack in Legacy. Most lifegain is incremental. Vortex is much better in those cases.
5) I am one of very few doing that. I face a lot of Stifles and like blanking them. It does require some deck adjustments though.
Searing Effects: Delver/Stoneforge/Elves/D&T/etc are on the upswing and these cards punish those decks heavily.

1) less than you think, most combo decks have a remarkably low chance of it occurring, with oops all spells having the highest, do note, there is somewhat of a correlation between high t1 win and interactivity (oops all spells being vulnerable to multiple angles of hate)
2) show and tell
3) relic but i imagine this deck mulligans to yard hate when relevant so there prolly
is an argument for leyline
4) in theory no, as flame rift is more efficient in that spot but I've met people who said skull crack has done work for them so ymmv
5) doable, you don't get grim though (which makes stoneforge much stronger)

I'll be going in blind into the legacy format tomorrow (if it fire, its unlikely because tomorrow is down time) can you guys list "telling" cards of each archetype which I may see in the first 3 turns? For example I know this is Miracles because I see T1 Brainstorm or Sensei's Divining Top or if I see Gaea's Cradle its clearly an Elf deck.
Anything well help, since I expect to lose a fair bit in these first few days by misplaying against archetypes.

Just throw Burn spells at the face. It sounds primitive, but more often than not, it's going to be the way to go.
