Xenagos is my only iffy card in the main. It's only there because I think control is coming back stronger thanks to the new set, and its +1 is nice to have in combination of Stormbreath and Crater's Claws.

I'd play 4 roast, zero lightning strike and consider either stubborn denial or wild slashes main.

I'm also playing atarka in any deck that can reasonably cast it.

Roast is real (in modern too!).

Does anyone have any exp with the Grixis Pyromancer control deck in legacy? It seems really sweet.

Like it plays many of my favourite cards (Brainstorm, Dig Through Time, Jace, Pyromancer) but it could easily be more cute and self indulgent than good.

Really zero copies of Lightning Strike? I understand the reasoning for Wild Slash to possibly replace it in the main, but I like the three damage in case of Fleecemane, Mantis, and Seeker. I was thinking if Stubborn Denial was worth it or not considering I only have 11 cards that enable it, 14 if you count Sarkhan.

Atarka was also in the maybe pile. Didn't know if I wanted something that cost that much, but with Xenagos and Sarkhan it should be okay.

Roast covers most of what strike does and your cheap creatures get through or hold off everything outside of mantis rider that you'd want to strike.

I was gonna say something about women who are cute and self indulgent, but my feeligns are mixed.

Looks better, couldn't fit in Atarka.

I can't help but think Outpost Siege is worse now that it has more copies of counters, but I guess it can just be used for its other mode too against control.

Roast is good in Modern?

I haven't tested it, but it got me hot and bothered when it was spoiled. Almost no need to splash black for Terminate now, unless Twin takes over in a serious way.

Well, blue-red decks have struggled with Tarmogoyf and more recently Tasigur/Rhino; having a clean two mana answer that combines well with Snapcaster is much appreciated.

I'll certainly try it out, the old "hope they attack into my first striker + Lightning Bolt" plan doesn't work as often as I'd like.

UR Delver always had problems against green decks and Flame Slash didn't always take care of Tarmogoyf. Roast will usually kill it and Rhino, so I can see the appeal for Modern.

It's not major, but it's better than what we had before. Efficient removal and cheap counters plus card draw is very powerful in modern right now; I don't think you want to be on Delver-esque strategies, but there's definitely a functional control deck to be explored.

the idea of playing control in modern makes me want to vomit.

I'd much rather play combo decks that lose to singular cards.
