Rabblemaster does such a good impression of YP, I must give him a try. Im going to test this for some events. If I like him, I'll try to squeeze in another into the main.

[deck=HK's Goblin Test]
Lands
9 Mountain
2 Battlefield Forge
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Sacred Foundry
1 Boros Guildgate
3 Mutavault
2 Temple of Silence

Creatures
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer
2 Goblin Rabblemaster

Burn
3 Shock
3 Searing Blood
3 Skullcrack
4 Lightning Strike
4 Boros Charm
4 Warleader's Helix
2 Stoke the Flames

Enchantments
3 Chained to the Rocks

Sideboard
1 Chained to the Rocks
3 Stayr Firedancer
2 Pillar of Light
2 Hushwing Gryff
2 Banishing Light
1 Mizzium Mortars
2 Chandra Pyromaster
2 Stoke the Flames
1 Awaken the Ancient
[/deck]

Dont critique my 1 of Awaken! I'm allowed 1 fun-of in every List - mommy said so.

@MDU Funny that we both decided to run zero MJs. It has worked fine
for one SE event so far, going 3-0 vs Rabble-Red, Mono Black and WW with extreme focus on lifegain and that cat, that grows with lifegain. We are more dependant on the luck of the draw, but on average I havent missed the MJs - yet... :cool2:

Once I've run into Mono U, UW Control, BW midrange and mono G devo, I will post an update - if this list survives the cut for me.

Interesting list HK1997, I rather like the list you posted Platypus - since I'm a strong believe in the Stoke :D.

 Yup, teamCFB decided on Boros burn and had some good results! Guess they didn't ask Big Z for advice, or there would be flamespeakers

The real surprise in the list is 24 land, no Magma Jet. MDU came up with that same idea just a few days ago. Also: Yaay to SFD!

Hey guys still at the Dallas open about to play legacy. The Jorden guy who made 9th with burn is the store owner from the local area I play. Yeah some of his deck choices are odd trust be I scolded him on them but he's stubborn. Hell what do I know he's the one who placed well while I dropped in round 6 lol

IDK his list seems quite solid with R, U and G running around - I do dislike the Burning Earth but everything else is nice.

He joked his reason for no chains was he would face burn mirrors all day and they just be throwing spells at each other and he wanted more burn. Surprisingly I saw him play at least 3 mirrors yesterday. Thankfully we've played the mirror about 1000 times since we both like red. His knowledge of this combined with playing weaker players just picking up the deck allowed him to win those easily

3x sacred foundry in the PT list strikes me as odd.

@platypus how did he beat you g1? Would you have won, if you had known you are playing against walkers?
This is a serious question. My opponents cast Chandra, xenagos, Lilliana, vraska, courser, RR, caryatids and removals. The games didn't go long enough for them to tutor a BG garruk or have it in hand, so I don't know how good it is vs us. The other planeswalkers were all too slow or I was able to ping them every turn with chandra (Chandra vs Chandra). The only plainswalker I was at risk to looking to might have been vraska at ulti, if I had emptied my hand and not drawn burn for the kill for 4 turns...
Sorry, I missed this somehow earlier.

G1 I made some play mistakes that could have made a difference. I think it was a combination of Xenagos,
Garruk, Chandra, and me playing way too conservative. G2 wasn't even close, I had to mulligan and Liliana Vess + Rakdos's Return pretty much sealed the deal. So it's hard to say really. I would probably have played differently if I knew it was Planeswalkers I was up against, thought it was a Monsters deck.

Match 2 was Mono Blue. Won that one 2-0.

Match 3 was a Mono Green Devotion deck. G1 was over fast from a Polukranos, but after sideboarding I was more confident about beating it. Took G2, and G3 became a very grindy game. I fought all four Coursers, two Nylea's Disciples (he was up to 29 life after the first one), Scavenging Ooze, and Hornet Queen. But triple Boros Reckoner got there in the end.

This was my deck:

[deck]
Lands
2 Battlefield Forge
8 Mountain
3 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
1 Temple of Epiphany
1 Temple of Silence
4 Temple of Triumph

Creatures
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Noncreature Spells
4 Boros Charm
4 Chained to the Rocks
4 Lightning Strike
4
Magma Jet
1 Stoke the Flames
4 Shock
4 Skullcrack
4 Warleader's Helix

Sideboard
2 Assemble the Legion
2 Banishing Light
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Mizzium Mortars
1 Stoke the Flames
3 Boros Reckoner
2 Pillar of Light
1 Mutavault
[/deck]

Would you keep Mountain, Mutavault, Young Pyromancer, Lightning Strike, [card]Warleader's Helix[/card], [card]Warleader's Helix[/card], [card]Warleader's Helix[/card] against UW control G2? Cause Matt Sperling just did.

I'm not sure that I agree with Matthew Sperling that Shock is worse than Helix in this matchup...

He's going to win this game with a borrowed Young Pyromancer, but under normal circumstances, how?

There are no main deck win conditions... you bore your opponent to death?

Mill them in the slowest way possible?

How the fuck did he make top 8? How was his record not 0-0-18?

Christ I hate that deck. I will not be sad to see Rev go.

The deck has plenty of wincons. It just takes 40 turns to do it sometimes.

Mutavault, Jace Ult, Opponent ragequit. I count 3.

I dont know, however I felt pain about watching Sperling playing. I think he lost game 1 because he didnt cast helix or boros charm when opponent tapped out for revelations.

Moving forward, which version of a deck is best (not for PT, but for sth like GP, SCG or WMCQ?)? Chains in MD or stokes in MD version?

I actually kind of like super controlling decks with close to zero win conditions. Win conditions just end up clunking your hand in early and mid-game, and you really don't need them if your deck is somehow going to win anyway (mutavault beats, planeswalker ultimate or something like this). Now you will hate me, but i feel sadic nearly the same way when i throw 20 points of burn to my opponent's face and when i watch my opponent unable to do anything while i have infinite cards in hand. I just prefer throwing burn :)

Seriously, you can't understand the amount of lulz when your Jund attacks you for lethal and you go for Quicken into Planar Cleansing.

@Val: Elspeth is a proper win condition. So you move her to the sideboard, of course.

Yeah, you don't even really need her g1 against a lot of decks. Just bring it in vs aggro as a defender that also happens to win the game.

Elixir + Rev is the only wincon you need.

Another 2-2 finish in a DE is having me change my deck around a bit. Taking some of the newer tech into account, I am considering this list. I need to cut 3 cards from my sideboard and am not sure which.

[deck]
Spells
4 Shock
4 Lightning Strike
4 Skullcrack
4 Searing Blood
4 Boros Charm
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix

Creatures
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Lands
8 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
3 Battlefield Forge
4 Mutavault
4 Temple of Triumph
1 Temple of Silence

Sideboard
4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
4 Satyr Firedancer
2 Hushwing Gryff
4 Toil // Trouble
2 Wear // Tear
[/deck]

I am thinking that the Gryffs and one Toil/Trouble are what has to go but I am not 100% certain. Thoughts?

I dont think cutting chains from the main is right... dont you just straight lose to monoblack that way? demon into merchant is just unstoppable without putting yourself at massive card disadvantage then they just draw out?

That is probably one of my greatest fears with that list: Losing to Demon or Master of Waves in Game 1.

Here's the list:

[deck]Creature (9)
4 Young Pyromancer
1 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Instant (27)
4 Shock
3 Skullcrack
4 Lightning Strike
4 Boros Charm
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix
4 Searing Blood

Land (24)
4 Mutavault
3 Sacred Foundry
9 Mountain
4 Battlefield Forge
4 Temple of Triumph

Sideboard (15)
1 Skullcrack
1 Eidolon of the Great Revel
1 Banishing Light
3 Chained to the Rocks
2 Glare of Heresy
4 Satyr Firedancer
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
1 Wear // Tear[/deck]

Some interesting choices. 4 Stoke the Flames and 4 Searing Blood maindeck, no Chained to the Rocks. Satyr Firedancers in the SB.

EDIT: Apparently I can't see that the same deck has been posted two messages ago...

How does this deck win G1 against 5/5s?

Matt knew what the other CFB guys were on and built a deck to best up in BW midrange which this deck dies very well.

Posted: Mon Aug 04, 2014 3:38 am
by magicdownunder
Yep - you can't use the grinding plan vs BW so a more proactive approach is needed.

After scouring through decklists, here's the Rw Burn deck that Shota Yasooka played at the Pro Tour:

[deck]Shota Yasooka Rw Burn[/deck]
Source: http://magic.wizards.com/en/events/cove ... darddecks4

The 3:2 split on Stoke and Helix is interesting.
Searing Blood in the main, with Reckoner and Firedancer in the sideboard suggest that he was preparing for
small creature decks with less removal.
Stormbreath is for UW control, but it seems to match up worse against the Planar Cleansing versions.
Hmmm, no Flamespeakers this time.

I might be able to get away with something close to a "3/3/3" loadout. Cut one Shock, one Searing Blood, one Helix and put the 3 Chains in. Makes the sideboard fit and gives me a hedge against Demon and Master.
