I mean I know that I'm going to sound as a spoiled brat, but since there is absolutely no question that these babies are going to sell like hotcakes, leading to shortages, you really didn't need to jack it up to mythic in order to guarantee sales.

That and the whole old BS "we will never be printing utility cards at mythic" make me mildly disappointed, but that's just because I had irreasonable hopes I guess.

Having confidant at rare would have been cool and wouldn't have harmed the market, given the expected rather low print run, while at the samew time throwing some more in the pool.

That art is gross. But it will probably excite many a young snowflake
Eric, Ren and Jensen were activists
Heads loaded with theory, their hearts are filled with passion
Shared the same left wing politics
Liked the same music, they were part of the protest movement
Now, Anna presented herself as a feminist
Studied the way they talked and dressed
Fashioned herself an anarchist
Eric fell in love with Anna at the meeting of the crime think conference
He didn't know it but Anna was an FBI informant

i get that "some normal wizard dude who whispers delusions of grandeur into your ear" doesn't have a mythic feel to it, but confidant certainly isn't a utility card.

not that you can play them both in standard, just seeing both in sets one after the other is a humorous thing

I'm one of the few that doesn't hate the Zorg art, but the original art is better (and not for nerdy Magic fan reasons).

re: art, yeah, I don't see what all the fuss is about regarding the new art. Everything that isn't a piece of garbage "RAWR IN YOUR FACE"re: new tarmogoyf is ok by me, and this one actually looks pretty decent. Possibly most people are complaining because the guy looks emo.

I actually really like the new art "shrugs". Now Tarmogoy...that art is terrible.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Yeah, I also like the new art a lot; though I do think Invitational cards should keep their original art.

Bob sounded a bit depressed about the art update in the article yesterday. Must be kind of sad seeing your legacy get overwritten.

Regardless of all that dribble, good card is good. New art is okay by me. Yay MM. Stuff.

I like the new art. Look closely - see how the king is being absorbed by the confidant, and how he's holding on to the crown. There's a lot of flavor going on here.

I'll still be playing with my old set because I like Bob Maher a lot, but I'll definitely pick up a couple of the new ones for collecting purposes.

That's not the king being absorbed; it's just the back of the chair. There are faces on it.

I actually dislike it because he's so obscured more than anything and not as much because it leads me to believe Skrillex won an invitational.

If they wanted to use someone with Skrillex hair, should have gone with Ellie Goulding.

The new art is actually remarkably chilling and well-rendered once you look at it at a size that reveals the details:

Image

Note the differing heads in the chair, as well as the eras in history they come from...and the fact that the confidant is in the process of damning yet another who has fallen to his treachery.

Pretty much this for me. But I don't really have strong feelings about it.

It just looks more like "20% off Hot Topic merchandise, at any cost" than "Greatness, at any cost" to me

I don't see it like that. Why would the king sit on a throne that had only three ornate headpieces in non-symmetrical order? What will the confidant do with the next king? I just see it as a very fancy throne that he is messing around with.
