Formerly, 'How would you describe your national and ethnic identity?'

I guess this is an end of year census question! I think this would be interesting and something that would make it easier to understand where others are coming from when they type anything here.

Clearly, there are few issues with these types of questions (it is two, isn't it?), and there is obviously room here to discuss as appropriate. I considered setting up a poll. Yes, indeed, that would have been great, but I clicked right through — but there is no way I could possibly do a comprehensive poll without 'Other' too, so...

I am Antipodean/British (not English, Scottish, Welsh, or Northern Irish or other; simply British) by nationality and "two or more races" and "mixed" — a real damn mutt — according to the US and UK censuses, respectively.

I am first and foremost a student now. The best thing about being a student is learning.

One thing I could improve on is being able to manage things better - I simply having too many things but not the know-how or wherewithal to do it but I am certain I could.

What do you guys do and what's the best part of your jobs?

Usually, I spend it either at home doing not much or at work.

As for this year, I'll probably stay in and do study, go out and get something to eat, and return home to do further study.

A few years ago, we would drive up on New Year's Eve to see the fireworks at a family friend's house where we would have a BBQ. This, it seems, has all gotten old, not worth the effort or something and that family friend no longer spends their Christmas/New Year's period in the country.

I can't say I miss the epic struggle to get to places to then struggle to get vantage points to see fireworks. However, I do miss the feeling somewhat and feel a little nostalgic too.

So, yeah, how will you spend NYD and NYE? How do you usually spend it or how have you spent it in the past?

As you can see, I am sensible not resident in the US. I lived there and have family there, but none of us 'get' Black Friday. This itch that I haven't scratched for about a week or two has become annoying enough to warrant some enquiry, and so I have create this thread for answers or discussion from the MTGS brain trust.

What is it and why would anyone want to shop on a day when everyone else goes shopping? Besides the insane pleasure from the communal activity of beating up other shoppers, why would you shop on Black Friday?

In any case, with the advent of online shopping, why would ever want to leave your house?!

I like eating. It is one of life's pleasures.

I was drinking caramel cheesecake (yeah, it was weird). I am now eating a kebab. I bought it yesterday, so I have reheated it. I am an abandoned, shameless, and disgusting person.

Oh, yeah, how was everyone's Christmas feast?

I wonder if other people take an interest in their family history and their heritage. I guess I'll find out.

I'm not too interested in doing research into my family tree, but I'm sure I'd come to know some interesting things about it. As for my family name, it means 'folk' or 'people'.

This may be more fitting in IY but it's more lively here than there, and it's not entirely out of place here either.

I was asked about my username before. The name 9909 is number (maybe call me? ), and the custom user title is an allusion to Dragon Ball's Goku's power level, as said (repeatedly) by Vegeta. It so happens that those the default user title when one has 9000 or more posts is also that.

I don't believe in resolutions, and no one, but those for whom it works, should. This is not a resolutions thread.

It's soon going to be Xmas and the New Year. You're going to be a year older, at the very least, and the world will pass you by if you don't do anything.

So, what will be on the books for 2014? What will be new? What will be done and dusted? How old will you be then? What will you be doing? (I'm shocked to learn that there are still members who are in secondary school, but I did remember that new people join too. ) What other things can you share with us?

I'm a little apprehensive about the New Year and downright afraid of Xmas and become unhappy and sentimental too, but I also look forward to move on from this year and look back.

They call it a cold wave, but basically what's up on your end? (Edit: I mean, yeah, the world is following this crazy weather, but what of it at a personal level?)

I understand that it's been quite lately, but how hasn't anyone made some sort of mention of this?

You know, now that she mentions it, it has been quite lately. I can't remember a time when it's been more lately.
Probably wouldn't even point out the random misspelling except she has a history of being a grammar nazi.

Seriously, what is it or perhaps why do people do it?

I mean, the former should be clear to anyone (i.e., flaming via PM, obv), but is it possible that the flaming isn't flaming?

In any case, why would people flame via PM? This is just too weird.

I'm not trying to stir the pot and suggest that there is staff abuse of power or authority or whatever. I genuinely want to know what is going on with some members getting suspended/banned and why it is happening.

I am grateful to the site staff. Those behind the scenes provide for the site, whereas those that are visibly active keep things alive and in order as well as keep us in line and ever improving.

I am always thankful, but I guess it's rare that anyone starts a thread to thank staff, so I haven't done it till now.

Also, cheers for creating this thread.
Thank you sir, may I have another.

Well, now, to be fair, it would be pretty cool to be Rain Man... except for the crippling autism, obsessive personality, and random tantrums, he's hella fun at parties.
Sigh. In a fair world, I'd report that bitch; one of my best friends has that ability (he can normally do 6 digits faster than a calculator), as well as the myriad of downsides that goes with it. Speaking from the point of view of someone who witnesses the effect that has on him, I find this distasteful at best, and would probably usually call it "rage-inducingly offensive."

I was peeping at someone's Facebook and I saw the most mental (no pun intended) thing ever; namely, a guy with a hole-in-chin piercing and transparent expander.

So that prompted me to look it up and I found this: http://www.unfinishedman.com/wild-an...modifications/ (IF EATING, DO NOT CLICK)

Sheesh, that's creepy (though Rick Genest from, like, half a minute in 47 Ronin is there too and, while my rabbi (I am sure that it's not actually prohibited and, in fact, it was probably a common thing) and grandparents can't approve of the choices that guy has made, it's not that bad (or it could be worse)).

Of course, whatever floats their boat...

Anyone here got any body modifications or any opinions on them?

What I think is particularly gross is old people and tats. As you age, the tension or elasticity of skin
changes, causing it to stretch. This isn't something that happens with age but also changes in weight too could do this. Honestly, besides, like, conforming for your life as in prison, I don't think tattoos are really that wise an investment.

WRT piercings, I am not as opposed. If I were, I'd be a hypocrite.

Do you... do you suppose she might be drunk or some shit when she writes this crap up? That would explain so, so much. I could have sworn she asked this question before, I think she popped in during some debate about body mods.

:magicmage:

[For the record, no self-respecting tattoo artist is gonna give you a tat on the underside of your bicep, where your neckbeard goes, or any of the parts prone to sag without warning you, most notably because those areas are tender as hell and most tattoo artists dislike trying to work while their medium is screaming. Also, lip studs/gauges are smexy.]

Drunk, high, or otherwise it's an incredibly well orchestrated campaign of trolling. Gotta be one of those three, surely.

(Trolling in the sense that it makes MTGS looks all kinds of stupid by having these dumbass threads all over the place.)

At some point after leaving the Gutter, Magic Mage underwent a dramatic online personality change where she now pretends to be this Sheldon Cooper-like poster that examines everything with a science mind and awkward precision. She has claimed to live in almost every country imaginable, undergone grand career changes, and she also claims to weigh 100 pounds despite the Gutter having seen her nearly naked in the slutty librarian photos, so . . . yeah.

I don't think it is trolling. She's just a weirdo. Any Gutter member knows this from her "I am literally stalking my ex-boyfriend" saga.
