WG / Naya Agro

Postby Pedros » Thu Mar 13, 2014 10:21 pm

Might develop it later if others interested.

Ok so first decklist:

[deck]1 drops:
4 Experiment One
4 Soldier of the Pantheon

2 drops:
4 Fleecemane Lion
4 Voice of Resurgence
2 Skylasher

3 drops:
4 Boon Satyr
3 Banisher Priest
2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos

4 Drops:
4 Advent of the Wurm

Tricks:
2 Gods Willing
4 Selesnya Charm

Manabase:
4 Temple Garden
3 Temple of Plenty
8 Forest
8 Plains

Sideboard
2 Unflinching Courage
2 Mistcutter Hydra
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Skylasher
2 Rootborn Defenses
2 Polukranos, World Eater
1 Gods Willing
2 Last Breath[/deck]

Ok here is a deck I copied from last 3-1 or 4-0 to try something new. I had a lot of experience playing agressive green decks from before (deck without lot of removal but with big bodies plus tricks) so felt comfortable to just jump into 8 mans with copied decklist.

Here was my thoughts:

Manabase seems shaky sometimes,
you basicly need double green and double white at all times, but nothing can be done here. Cards are too color intensive so no spot for mutavaults, no need for 4rd Temple as deck likes to curve out, however other lists run 4. Had some games when I was mana screwed as you have a lot of ways to use excess mana (mistcutter hydra, bestow, ooze etc)

Gods Willing is amazing, probably better than Brave the Elements (protects experiment 1 and wurm token).

Was really impressed by Brimaz, Banisher priest and Boon Satyr. One is 1 man army, other acts as removal/tricks. Same can be said about selesnya charm, that in addition exiles gods and polukranoses.

SB is really meh. I know I want 9 cards vs conrol but dont really know what to take out. Lost 1 game to double Archangel of Thune, I think it needs 3rd Glare of Heresy. Here I need to ask Keit what cards you hate to see from that kind of deck and would love to work with you somehow.

Polukranos in sb seems strange, it is for agressive decks + mono blue as
another way to kill master (other than last breath), might move to sb.

Unflinching courage as always seems exceptional vs agressive strategies.

Potential cards that want to look to:

Chronicler of Heroes - 3/3 body that gives card advantage. Previously worked with Gyre Sage version, however dont know how gyre sage is right now.
Here is a link to that version: http://mtgo-stats.com/decks/91079

Scavenging ooze - 2 mana curve filler that is amazing in late game, sometimes important ability (vs UW and Junk reanimator), life gain.

Ajani - amazing topdeck with his jump ability.

Mutant's Prey - another removal for counter version. Works with Experiment, Ooze, Gyre Sage, Polukranos and Mistcutter Hydra.

Trostani - agressive deck nightmare plus quite good for midrange matchups.

Call of the Conclave - while worse than Fleecemane Lion, Bile blight is a thing.

Eidolon of Countless Battles - similar to Boon Satyr, good bestow creature that allows you to
have other way to push damage vs control other than putting more creatures on board.

Plummet - 5th answer to Desecration demon and for dragons.

Celestial Flare - answer to hexproof.

Blind Obediene - agro decks hoser.

Would be glad if someone can answer my thoughts and also help me evaluate card choices.

All right I have been screwing around with this deck on cockatrice for a long time and I have been extensively testing it out with a few players at my FNM so I have been able to get a feel for it.

I would definitely run 2 Ajani main. You can get some pretty neat tricks off with his -3 ability and he's something that needs to be dealt with if you just keep ticking him up.

I wouldn't dedicate any sb space against aggro (your mb already hoses aggro since you have Brimaz AND advent) except for a few Last Breaths because they are, as you say, good at getting rid of master of waves since the mono U matchup is a bit shaky. Plummet is generally a pretty bad card but it might just be the thing you need if you face a lot of mono U, Mono B or Mono R devotion decks.

On the subject of Polukranos... I don't like him. I'd much rather play 4 Mistcutter Hydra's SB which are fantastic vs Mono U and UWx control variants.

Don't
even think about playing Trostani with this mana base. He will be stuck in your hand a lot more often than you'd think.

I have been playing Loxodon Smiter main instead of those Skylashers you have, but this is purely a meta call (my meta is full of mono R aggro which means I just need creatures with fat asses).

Another possible SB option might be Revoke Existence. Oh and Spear of Heliod ;) .

PS: We'll just have to face it: this deck's mana base is bad and it is also a terrible deck to mull with. Still, it's a ton of fun to play :) .

Current decklist after playing some more with a deck:

[deck]
Creatures:
4 Soldier of the Pantheon
4 Voice of Resurgence
4 Precinct Captain
3 Fleecemane Lion
2 Imposing Sovereign
3 Banisher Priest
3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
2 Eidolon of Countless Battles

Support:
4 Brave the Elements
4 Selesnya Charm
2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride
2 Spear of Heliod

Mana:

10 Plains
3 Forest
4 Temple Garden
4 Temple of Plenty
2 Selesnya Guildgate

Sideboard
2 Skylasher
1 Last Breath
2 Glare of Heresy
1 Banisher Priest
3 Unflinching Courage
1 Plummet
2 Rootborn Defenses
1 Unravel the Æther
2 Mistcutter Hydra[/deck]

After playing with this deck my observations:

Soldier of pantheon is good, however dont like more 1 drops. I like my mana being more consistent with access to 6 taplands, plus 1 drops mostly are quite bad later in a game. Soldier of Pantheon isnt as in some matches protection from multicolored
matters.

Brimaz is amazing with Spear of Heliod and Selesnya charm. Both makes tokens good (not easily just eaten) and allows him to swing into bigger creatures (they remove him or allows to pass through with +2/+2). Thinking about playing more, however legendary scare me too much right now.

As for 2 drops:
Have 13 2 drops right now. Precinct Captain and Voice are both all stars in various matchups, however others might be quetionable.

I decided to have 3/2 Split of Fleecemane Lion and Imposing Sovereign. I dont like drawing multiple sovereigns however 1 is quite good. Fleecemane lion is often just 3/3 for 2, however I used monstrous in various matchups that made ground stable (plus it is quite awsome vs control and mono black). However in a world of Blood Barons and Stormbreath Dragons might play Call the Conclave (green 3/3 that is 4/4 with spear or 5/5 with charm) as a additional green creature. It is hard to decide right now as meta isnt set jet where to go (wanting more thoughts from you guys
where to go)

I am extremely impressed on Eidolon of Countless Battless. Makes every creature huge, especially with precinc captain or brimaz. Brimaz makes creture when attacking so growing eidolon by 1, precinct captain has first strike -> also grows him.

Ajani makes small creature hit harder with constant +1/+1 counters, plus allows for huge burst damage with his jump ability. Amazing non creature followup.

Manabase is perfect. 14 Untapped white sources for Soldier, 13 Green Sources for every green card, 20 white souces for double white that allows playing precinct captain.

SB:
2 Skylasher - UWx Control, Mono Blue/x Devo, Burn (lowering a curve plus allows blocking phoenix)
1 Last Breath - Mono Blue/x Devo, Burn
2 Glare of Heresy - UW control, Mirror, White Wheenie
1 Banisher Priest - Mono Blue/x Devo, mirror, white wheenie, mono black, monsters.
3 Unflinching Courage - burn, Mono Blue/x Devo, potential 1 of vs monsters, white weenie, mirror, mono black agro
1 Plummet - for desecration
demon, Mono Blue/x Devo, stormbreath dragon.
2 Rootborn Defenses - UWx control
1 Unravel the Æther - UWx control, Mono Blue/x Devo
2 Mistcutter Hydra - UWx control, Mono Blue/x Devo

Any suggestion, thoughts?

G2: MonoBlack Devotions
G3: MonoBlack Devotions
G4: MonoBlack Devotions

G1: Green Aggro (video got corrupted sorry)
G2: BW Midrange
G3: RDW
G4: BW Midrange
Things have now changed, Ratcheted Bomb see less play (thank god) and now LBZ is on the rise along with Rw Burn :) long story short - I like Calisto_dancer list (the one you posted) except it needs Ajani, Caller of the Pride - maybe over Brimaz, King of Oreskos (Brimaz, King of Oreskos isn't very good against large creatures).

EDIT: In regards to Goyf - we can defiantly buy them but we'll also need Lilly and Bob - Gah Jund is an expensive deck (not worth it imo - I'll just try UR Delver or Burn or Zoo....).

I tried Calisto Dancers list however manabase is horrible. Thats why after talking to Zem I chooce to go to heavier white version. brimaz is bad without spear, without it smiter is better.

I have access for confidants for now.

The manabase is actually better then the one we use for RB Aggro (because we're trying to force vaults) and that list has taken down a fair number of PEs, DE and some RL events.

I do agree on brimaz being lacklaster which is why I suggested Ajani, Caller of the Pride

Brimaz is overhyped

I really really like MDU's list (as usual), seems like an excellent 'core'

MDU I saw your games (didnt know you tried GW and made videos before you said it now) and I saw you won a lot of games vs black quite easily., even when they had a lot lifebane zombies (1 game you were zombied like 6 times). I dont know why you this this matchup is worse, especially now when they play bile blight insead of ultimate price so wurm has more freedom.

@Tyrael

Brimaz is good if you have stuff like spear of heliod.

I never said Bx Devotion was a horrible MU (I just don't think its a free win, which is bad since they're just a huge part of the meta game), control is decent mainly due to Wurm and Boon and Burn should be mostly favorable though you'll lose to Dancer.

GW isn't a horrible choice right now if you can beat those three decks consistently (the only issue is that Ux won't be in your favour unless you resolve Pro-Blue creature and Armour it up).

Omg my message got refreshed ...

I talked to Calisto_Dancer, forgot to mention he is from Poland. He played this deck lose to ~1400 matches as he said, always in a middle ground not going heavier into any color. He said deck str is in combination of those 2 colors and tempo, deck is much more powerful if you do it this way. He says he doesnt want to go for even more than 3 tap lands (he is playing 8/8/4/3 combo now)

White gives you banisher priest (only removal in a deck) plus combo of Brimaz and spear + Ajani
Green gives you Wurm and Boon Satyrs - heavy hitters that are amazing vs control.

What is something I dont really understand is the fact that Calisto_Dancer says he hate ajani in this deck and would never play her again.

@Lazer

Last time I checked Bow wasnt banned :P

The Naya version can have some really really stupid turns (etc: Ghor-Clan Rampager + Boros Charm)

I think I prefer Naya but I don't like 2 Domri Rade in the SB it should be MD or not in the deck at all.

Yup I agree totaly. Having access Boros Charm / Selesnya Charm / Brave / Rampager is huge.

What I dont like is 1 drops this deck has. Cant see why soldier of pantheon is such a biggie if you cant target him with any of your pump spells in rampager and charm. It just gets blocked forever. What I noticed he is only good in sudo mirrors (Where every spell is gold). Vs control it cant be charmed or detention sphered, however who even would charm / det sphere this guy.

Haha my thoughts are right:

[deck="Andrew Shrout
4th Place at Pro Tour Qualifier on 3/2/2014"]Creatures (23)

4 Boros Reckoner
4 Dryad Militant
4 Fleecemane Lion
4 Ghor-Clan Rampager
3 Loxodon Smiter
4 Voice of Resurgence
Lands (23)

2 Plains
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Stomping Ground
4 Temple Garden
4 Temple of Abandon
4 Temple of Plenty
1 Temple of Triumph
Spells (14)

4 Boros Charm
4 Brave the Elements
4 Selesnya Charm
2 Mizzium Mortars
Sideboard

4 Skylasher
3 Unflinching Courage
2 Shock
3 Skullcrack
2 Glare of Heresy
1 Mizzium Mortars[/deck]

You can notice lack of Soldier. He made top 4 in ptq(and ptq in USA are quite big I heard) so that is something. Thoughts?

Hmmmm maybe Mortars is better MD then Chains (because Mortars hit dragons) - that would free up room in the SB for the 2nd Healer and another random card (to help the Bx MU, perhaps the Xenagos, God of Revels (gah I want 2x Reveler - maybe cutting the 2nd Hydra).

I think problem with chained is that it only have 8 targets in 8 shocklands. Mortars while overall worse might be little bit better.

So you want xenagos, the god or xenagps, the pw? I think god is little bit ambitious with 22 lands.

I played two events going 1-1 in both, losing against UWr Control and Bx Devotion - I feel like the list get hurt from the lack of flash creatures.

EDIT: i think I'm spoiled rotten by all the free wins Hexproof gives ya

Hi guys. Glad this thread exists now. Played this deck last night at FNM (JVL list). When its playing nice it's very very nice. When it's not it's horrid. The mana is awful. Cost me two games last night that I had a good shot at winning had I drawn any land within 5 turns. I regularly seem to goldfish into a mana screw too. Thinking about maybe adding a land and dropping a selesnya charm, unless anybody thinks there's a better candidate to cut? moving 4th charm to the SB to bring back in against demon/pol.

Maybe I just got unlucky last night. I know it happens. But to me the mana does seem like the shakiest part of the deck, anybody else finding the same?

Ok here is a deck I played yesterday. Won every match vs anything that wasnt RG or Jund Monsters. Didnt have temples or shocks as my buddy had them and wen for GP, but I borrowed them and can try naya. However is it worth it? Doest Naya help you vs Monsters? At a cost of which matchups?

[deck]
Creatures:
4 Experiment One
4 Fleecemane Lion
4 Voice of Resurgence
2 Skylasher
4 Boon Satyr
2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
2 Banisher Priest
4 Advent of the Wurm
2 Mistcutter Hydra

Support:
2 Gods Willing
4 Selesnya Charm
1 Bow of Nylea
1 Spear of Heliod
1 Ajani, Caller of the Pride

4 Temple Garden
4 Plains

4 Temple of Plenty
3 Selesnya Guildgate
8 Forest

Sideboard
3 Unflinching Courage
2 Mistcutter Hydra
1 Banisher Priest
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Skylasher
2 Rootborn Defenses
2 Polukranos, World Eater
1 Gods Willing[/deck]

Tried some different version with Soldier of Pantheon, but wasnt impressed with
it, so this was my final version I played to a 7-2 result yesterday.
