I agree on most of your SB choices, esp. the Spellbomb route vs "twins" :D

Though +1 Shattering Spree (SiS is good because its an instant) and +1 Shrine of Burning Rage (slow? + they bring in artifact/enchantment hate (cause it gains them life and hits hate)) seem odd vs Rg - I would just go with Molten rain for that MU.

Regarding that Tron match, I forgot to type out -2 Forked Bolt, +2 Molten Rain. That's why I had written that I either want a whole lot Molten Rains or it just be Blood Moon if I'm just going to dedicate only 2 slots to land hate. I agree with you about SS and Shrine.

Thunderous Wrath? Ewwww....

At least it's a singleton.

I like the Shrine in there. I was considering adding it back to the main myself.

What does the "Rank 3/4" mean?

I believe he lost the semi-finals so 3/4 based on standings and I agree some of the choice were odd - I'm just glad we're not the only crazies cutting Grim and Devil :p

As crazy as it sounds, I'm thinking of cutting the Hellsparks. That will give me room for 2 Shrines main and maybe 2 more Flames of the Bloodhand. Or just 1 more Mountain and 1 more Shard Volley.

I might try this after downtime  (MD robots and twin hate FTW)

Seem like I'll have a rough time vs Tron and Scapeshift though... going too have play it really cleverly.

At the same time, its really hard justifying making any changes with my original Rb green deck since I havnt dropped a single DE yet (I wish we had more online modern players willing to test burn).

I'm gonna assume you rounded up the hours, so I'm 14 hours ahead :p

I understand why going fetchless can be an advantage, but if you are playing fetches, why not the black splash? Did Bump stop being good?

I've been trying to answer this question for the past 3 days in Sally but in comes down too these factors:

1) Life-loss
2) Consistency
3) Disruption (Spreading Sea, LD, ETC)

I actually like Rb burn because I think Rakdos Charm is a Swiss army knife in modern and extra Lava Spikes with perks never hurt anyone :p

so far ive played the list that was closer to the list that that nick heal played at gp minni and had some success with it but i think this deck is better overall for the online metagame. Sadly I dont have any sweet 4-0 records with this current list like i did the old one but im hoping to get there real soon. So far
if it were not for my horrible sideboarding I think this list would actually be better than the old one and I would have done better. I just kept forgetting to be a burn deck sometimes because it is necessary. I think more than 4 ways to kill a pro red creature is way too many imo. Im happy with the two dismember though im tempted to go to three. or just cut the bombs altogether. Every other card on the list I think is solid and even the crappy budget sac lands are a nice addition. I might cut one megalith but it did win me a game and should have won me two games if I had not derped so bad. Im really liking the second megaltihs :grovel: 4 molten rain are really good because it stops uwr from just killing you and stops scapeshift from just killing you. Its really nice to run them out of counterspells then resolve a rain for like ggs . you might event be able to buy you enough time burn them out of mountains which would be kool but unlikely. I just like dropping them to the point where they cant draw and cast cryptic command which is a big deal.

I still have no fucking clue what I'm doing.

Though I did find this article about modern metagame http://www.channelfireball.com/articles ... -analysis/

I think I am just going to roll up whatever you got MDU and smoke it.

If you're new, then I suggest the original Heal list. It's pretty well positioned against a variety of decks -Twin, Pod, and Affinity. The hardest matchup is probably Rock-style decks - GB/Junk/Jund, but it's not unwinnable and with smart, careful play you'll gain an edge. It has a very strong sideboard and it's something that you'll be able to play for awhile in a long tournament without succumbing to brain drain. It also bridges the gap between RDW and Burn quite nicely so that after your first big Modern tournament, you'll have a better idea of what you'll want in the future.

This is how I felt about Legacy and Standard when I reentered/entered the formats for the first time (or after a long break) you best bet is just to dive in (MTGO or FNM) can help.

I don't think RDW is the best style for an large event mainly because it isn't reflected by online results and that Heal himself changed his decklist  I would argue its a meta choice - for taking out Pod, Twin and Affinity.

That said, my list has similar problems but for different MUs....

------------

Since your meta is unknown just go with whatever your more comfortable with (etc: have a plan, understand basic sequencing, so on and so forth).

I ended up playing a grinder and used a blend of the 4 Fanatic list you came up with MDU and the 3/4 ranked PTQ list that ran Flame Javalin.

Beat a crazy brew that was running Chalice of the Void to lock me out.

Beat Merflok in two tight ass games.

Then lost to this Ad Nauseum deck that got Phrexian Unlife both games right away and then combo'd me when I got him to 10 infect both times but he had Angel's Grace.

Sadly, I barely drew the card I wanted to test -- Mogg Fanatic.

Really torn on the 3rd creature aside from GG and EotGR.

Pulled a Garruk, Ajani and Nissa in the 9 packs I won so that was awesome. Also 2 Dark Conf playmats so the events were basically free with just the mats value.

That is the main problem with playing MonoR in modern, decks like: Ad Nauseum, Auras, Soul Sister and Reanimator are horrible MUs simply because they're running Leyline or some other hate.

That are your thought on Modern overall? will you be continuing with it or is it just a one time thing?

Took my first DE defeat today, so now I can finally justify testing new brews :D going too go back into MonoR though I'm not sure if I want to test with Grim or Mogg :(

lolz i guess. I kinda just figured if people saw my budget fetches then the next logical step would be to realize that im building on a budget. I like grimm because it allows us to win a long resource war against opponents tring to grind us out of a game. I honestly dont think there is a matchup where I would consider boarding out lavamancer. People see it as a threat and it almost aways eats removal as fast as possible. Mogg is a meta
choice. Its a choke hold on pod's mana dorks with forked bolt and against twin it kill deceiver exarch with searing blaze and lightning bolt. If you expect alot of pod/twin then I would seriously consider fanatic but in the online meta right now I dont think its nessesary.

So after 4 days of scouring the internet and everything MDU writes...

I still have no fucking clue what I'm doing.

Though I did find this article about modern metagame http://www.channelfireball.com/articles ... -analysis/

I think I am just going to roll up whatever you got MDU and smoke it.

The reason I started doing well in modern from the get go was the simple act of following the format as closely as I could. I watch tons of actual gp and pt coverage as well as cfb and scg videos. Ive been keeping up with the modern metagame for as long as it has existed in the off chance ill be able to jump right in and
start playing and i finally got my chance with mono red burn. Its really just being familiar with the game plan of the decks and how to disrupt them. If I had the money I would be playing the uwr control deck with a bunch of spells and three snapcaster mages personally or twin. Sadly I do not but burn can just kill your opponent before they can do anything to stabilize and sometimes people dont know when to kill a dude or to hold up counter mana. Go forth and burn brilliantly.

Modern is pretty dope.

The actual Grand Prix is today, I only did a grinder and a standard event yesterday(fucking hexproof).

Probably bringing the same version of the deck but I kinda of just want the best clock and might run Grim or Hellspark over Fanatic....he just doesn't seem very good but who knows...

Good point.

HSE give you the best clock by far, but you weaken your game slightly vs Twins and Affinity...

I tried grim today it didn't work out very well, but I kept really greedy hands and just loss because I failed to draw past 1 or 2 lands.

I still have no fucking clue what I'm doing.
This is how I felt about Legacy and Standard when I reentered/entered the formats for the first time (or after a long break) you best bet is just to dive in (MTGO or FNM) can help.
If you're new, then I suggest the original Heal list. It's pretty well positioned against a variety of decks -Twin, Pod, and Affinity. The hardest matchup is probably Rock-style decks - GB/Junk/
Jund, but it's not unwinnable and with smart, careful play you'll gain an edge. It has a very strong sideboard and it's something that you'll be able to play for awhile in a long tournament without succumbing to brain drain. It also bridges the gap between RDW and Burn quite nicely so that after your first big Modern tournament, you'll have a better idea of what you'll want in the future.

RDW is a bad choice in a
large paper tournament because it doesn't put up results online? Rdw is bad because Heal had to change his paper list to something different when he played online?

Wut.

Going well so far.

Beat Kiki Pod and Storm then lost to two really good hands by a Tarmo Twin deck.

Using MDU list.
