Jaya Ballard, Task Mage

Postby Manasjap » Sat Mar 02, 2013 11:51 pm

:symr: Jaya Ballard, The Sexy Beast :symr:

As one of the few foil legends in my possession before the whole EDH craze began , it was no surprise this was to be my very first EDH deck. There are a lot of cards (especially the creatures) that do not make much sense to be in the list, but the deck has not been changed a lot since I created it. Call it nostalgia ^_^.
The deck can be quite janky at times, but that has always been one of the charms for me. Also that decks with blue as a big component usually just role over to an active Jaya.
Many cards have some kind of recurring value which is always good in EDH, and especially when your commander
relies on dumping cards to blow shit up. (Squee, Goblin Nabob, Magma Phoenix Skarrgan Firebird, cards with flashback)
There are also a lot of cards that improve Jaya's abilities. (Basilisk Collar, Heartstone, etc)
Lastly there are plenty of ways to get some card advantage ([card]Urza's Blueprints[/card]), some burn, and some random (good) cards.

With 31 mountains, did you consider Valkut, the Molten Pinnacle for your deck, or are trying to avoid running too many ETBT lands?

Also, is there a particular theme your going for, such as balls to the wall creatures, or are you trying to do direct damage?

Hey, Valakut, the molten Pinnacle would be quite good in a mono red EDH, I never even considered it :stupid:
ETBT lands don't matter too much, the deck is not very fast in general.
The focus of the deck is pretty much around Jaya and making use of her abilities to burn stuff. Many of the creatures don't really support this team but are there to make sure I can win through other ways besides my commander. I mean, a well timed Arc-Slogger has won me a fair amount of games, but even that could be considered some kind of burn.

If there would be a way to make sure the deck still 'works' when Jaya eats (multiple) removals, I'd be perfectly fine with dropping most of the (non-Phoenix, non-squee) creatures.
