Yeah we did the same for SCG Regionals a month ago. No one would split if it were a $1k or lower, but guaranteed $400+ is damn good enough for everyone. The Top 8 prize pool (the payout went to top 32) had $3600 in it, (with $1200 going to the winner). However, we uanimously agreed to split the cash and points, and to play it out for the plaque. So we all walked away with $450 each.
Congrats.

jwf, it sounds like your friend is also put off by not having any options to deal with things like spell snare - unless they also play blue. Obviously, you know from playing spell snare (which is banned in Modern and flat out mean in casual) that blue has a near-monopoly on the all important stack. A black, green, red or white deck has no recourse against your Spell Snare simply because they can't target the creature that they have cast until it resolves, which it won't.
What I'm hearing is that other players don't like blue dominance and blue players like it very much and don't want to hear "complaining".... any other thoughts?

Which one of you posted this:
It's no secret to my friends that I refuse to use blue cards. I have a bias toward the underdog colors (all of the other colors) and want to be able to play those colors in a constructed setting with a decent chance of winning. I love Magic and enjoy rooting for underdogs. To me, it's boring to see the same predictable outcomes in sports, cards, or otherwise. It's good to see an unlikely hero, etc.
Without flaming too heavily about it, the only frustrating aspect of Magic over the years IMO has been the continual domination of blue with only brief interruptions of other decks/colors.. decks which invariably get nerfed through bans or outrun by the printing of stronger and stronger blue cards. As of August 2015, once again, blue is dominating nearly every single archetype across all formats except vintage aggro and standard aggro. That's 10/12 deck types/formats (and letting it slide that Tolarian Academy and a few blue cards often infiltrate MUD which would make it 11 out of 12). If your response is "just put blue in your deck" - you are not hearing me. That's what everyone says. I just don't want to play blue.
I invite you to take a gander at the current population of top8 decks, and add up the % of top8 decks played in vintage/legacy/modern/standard that feature blue. Usually, blue is the dominant color in all of the decks. In many cases blue is not only the top deck in a category, but also represented very heavily in the next 3 or 4 decks down in that category. Mono-blue is now the most winning modern aggro deck (huh?) despite being heavily outnumbered at tournaments by jund and burn, for example. Also, keep in mind that standard is going to change in a month with BFZ, giving blue a chance to climb back up in that format as well. http://www.mtgtop8.com/
Do you think blue is over-represented in Magic? If so, would you rather see other colors brought up or the banhammer brought down in righteous fury to achieve balance?

The sad thing is I've read everything Kait has posted in their original forms.
To add to his posts remember Mr. Purge the Profane? He's now suggesting Abzan Aggro players to jam Demonic Pact into the main because it's Siege Rhino #5-8. He's accidentally killed himself with the card but it's okay, it's still a good card in the deck!

Try losing to a smug shitty player due to mana flood who afterward tries to give advice on what you should do to improve. This is a guy in Standard that believes Yasova Dragonclaw is the best card in the format and argued with a judge that Elspeth's -3 should not be able to kill Stormbreath Dragon because it has protection from white. I took satisfaction that he went 1-3 after.
At least I pulled Liliana and Nissa, and got to kill Archangel of Tithes with the kill spell that has the art of her getting killed. I also pulled 12 elves with two copies of Elf Gary, so yay elves.

Yeah everyone that was there have gotten together to report the news to everyone they can. There's a campaign to get the place shut down by everyone finally tired of their shit. The history goes back years with their shady practices and it's finally getting some attention.Did these people play / can we verify this stuff happened? That store is 100% getting it's sanctioned pulled and a TO getting banned if the DCI fraud part is legit.A store called Gameology. It's the one I talked about few weeks back about fixing the winner for Game Day. No one goes there without a bad experience.I'd assume it's either monstore or pack warz?
Today they had a PPTQ and my Facebook feed is flooded with people that went and talking about all the shit that went down. Stuff like massive amounts of game losses and questionable DQs for nothing, judges telling players to figure stuff out themselves, officials and store owners cussing out customers, and what was just put to light: entering people into the event that had not only never played the game, they had no intention of playing just so the store can get to the 50 players for support from Wizards. One friend found out his first round opponent doesn't know how to play and his decklist was listed as 60 Forests.
*Also so I can make sure this store gets it's sanctioning pulled.
Hilariously enough the one that got cussed out was a L2 judge and the one with the 60 Forest opponent is a L1. They dun goofed.

At least they're.... harmless I guess.
I've encountered the loli pervert anime fan at my own LGS.
The last time I was in Japan I was at this huge electronic store in Akihabara, the nerd capital of the world. They had an entire section around the size of the gaming section of Best Buy dedicated to loli figures. They were mostly empty until you came across the 18+ figures aisle, where there were half a dozen men just standing there.... staring. Most of them were looking at the ones the store were pre-ordering, which creepily enough, was too many. That night I proceeded to eat Mexican food, shop for Pikachu condoms, and almost get in a fist fight with a Nigerian immigrant.
That my friends, was the most magical Christmas day I've ever had.

There's a modern player at my LGS that you can smell a mile away and seems to have this condition where me makes bomb exploding noises every so often. He use to have long greasy hair he wore with a fedora until he thankfully cut it.
Then there's another guy who's a shy Asian kid that's probably the record holder for the most sexually revealing anime girls to fit onto a playmat. They're also on his sleeves, deck box, and tokens. I still have the image of goblin anime girl tokens I can't unsee.

I feel Surrak is at a good number at 2. I wouldn't want to run him as a one-of. I'd probably cut one Brimaz or Anafenza for the 25th land. So I think you could go -2 Surrak +1 Boon Satyr +1 Mana Confluence (I'd say Temple of Plenty but I don't want any more tap lands) or -1 Brimaz or Ana +1 land.
My sideboard for your list looks more like:
[deck]2 Drown in Sorrow
1 Virulent Plague
1 Nissa, Worldwaker
1 Murderous Cut
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Self-Inflicted Wound
4 Thoughtseize
2 Sorin, Solemn Visitor[/deck]
Ascendency is a bad match up for the old Abzan list, not sure about this one. I like the one-of Plague for insurance, also for against Elspeth decks. An extra Glare would also help in the excess amount of the mirrors you may run into, not to mention Ascendency or the Heroic decks that may make a comeback thanks to Tom Ross.
Green Devotion is another bad matchup but since it's focusing more on Mastery of the Unseen, it should be better now too as long as you remove it on site along with Whisperwood. Deathmist Raptor scares me, but it can played around. If the deck takes off again, I might want to put Archfiend of Depravity in the side.
