@Lazer: Cheers

I played the Legacy DE (8068403) today and went 3-1, wanna guess what I lost against?
Answer
Storm
:p

The list was:

[deck=MDU's Burn]Lands 20
12 Mountain
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn

Creatures 10
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Goblin Guide
2 Grim Lavamancer

Enchantments 02
2 Sulfuric Vortex

Spells 28
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Price of Progress
4 Searing Blaze

Sideboard 15
2 Smash to Smithereens
2 Pyrostatic Pillar
2 Searing Blood
3 Ashen Rider
3 Faerie Macabre
3 Dragon's Claw[/deck]

I think I'll just bite the bullet and run some mindbreak traps, on that note does anyone own any MBT online that they're not using atm?

Yep, I agree sometimes you just lose.

Ok well my first DE didn't go very well my results were 1-2 drop, I entered in with the list I posted one page before running a "slower burn" deck I lost against 2 combo decks and I beat one weird welder deck (well its more like he beat himself).

For the next DE which I'll try tomorrow I'll enter in with a more all-or-nothing type list (running Flame Rift and its ilk).

[deck=MDU's Burn]Lands 19
11 Mountain
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn

Creatures 8
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Goblin Guide

Enchantments 02
2 Sulfuric Vortex

Spells 31
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Price of Progress
4 Searing Blaze
4 Flame Rift

Sideboard 15
2 Faerie Macabre
2 Pyrostatic Pillar
2 Searing Blood
3 Ashen Rider
3 Mindbreak Trap
3 Smash to Smithereens[/deck]

EDIT

Hmmmmm... looking at MTGOGOLDFISH it seems like running so many flame rifts will won't be such a good idea - I'll rework the list for tomorrow.

It has some minor uses against OmniTell and, if you want to go REALLY deep, Elves. Primarily Storm, though.
I'm trying to justify running 4 of them since I just got crushed 2-0 (both in T1 via storm in my first magic event in ages...) so its mainly a knee jerk reaction :p

It sounds like your taking on so much extra risk for such minimal gain... don't get me wrong I like 2c or 3c burn in some formats like modern but that is mainly because we're lacking in quality burn spells.

Anyhow here is my proposed deck-list:

[deck=MDU's Burn]Lands 20
12 Mountain
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn

Creatures 11
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Goblin Guide
3 Grim Lavamancer

Enchantments 03
3 Sulfuric Vortex

Spells 26
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Price of Progress
3 Searing Blaze

Sideboard 15
3 Ensnaring Bridge
3 Volcanic Fallout
3 Smash to Smithereens
2 Searing Blood
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Pyrostatic Pillar[/deck]

The MD and SB may or may not change as I work through the current meta game (hopefully via watching recent Mr Blak videos).

They help but the real trump is landing an Eidolon on 2. They run a lot of manipulation and counters and getting that on the board is a big help. Vortex is good simply because 3s are much harder for them to counter and we can easily play the longer game.
Ok you've sold me on Vortex ;-)

Miracles is a rough one. If they assemble counter-top we are usually just done right there. The saving grace is that the deck can be fairly clunky if they don't have a top early.
Darn... my guy went top turn 1 both games, when he landed Counterbalance it felt hopeless.

I imagine your version with the more top heavy spells like flame Rift and Sulfuric Vortex having a better time.

Simply because I'd prefer other cards against them, and it sucks when Counterspell becomes Rain of Salt + Duress.
I thought so as well, but the 0cc nature of Blast seems quite powerful vs Control magic (though if it fails you generally can't recover T_T).

- - - - - - - - -

Questions:
How important is Sulfuric Vortex?
Is UWR Miracles a bad MU? I just lost against them fairly badly with my Double Searing Blaze hand G1 and my Triple Grim Hand G2 which they Terminus (I'm seeing the appeal of less creature approach now :P).

Legacy DE Report 7500270 Running pacoelflaco's list
G1 Legacy Burn vs Infect
G2 Legacy Burn vs UWr Delver
G3 Legacy Burn vs Elves
G4 Legacy Burn vs Pod

Note: I'm sorry about the white noise (

Question for you lot:
Vs blue do you cut or keep Fireblast
Legacy DE Report 7500300
G1 Legacy Burn vs Dredge
G2 Legacy Burn vs Food Chain
G3 Legacy Burn vs Death and Taxes
G4 Split

Note: I'm sorry about the white noise (humming) I removed them from Wednesdays videos onward, same as before please point out mistakes esp. with the boarding.

I'm starting to believe Pyroblast is good enough for Show and Tell so I'll most likely cut Ashen Rider for Ensnaring
Bridge since like Blak said earlier it has much wider applications.

How do you split on MTGO?
During DE's if your 3-0 on the finals you can offer 3 boosters - thus the winner gets 8 boosters (11-3) + 3 QP and the loser gets 9 Boosters (6+3) + 1 QP.

In SE if your 2-0 on the finals you offer 1 booster, so you both get 4 boosters each I think its due to my rank and videos most people will split with me but from what I heard this is a rare split.

EDIT: My brag post was discovered by Kait :argh: but yeah you can go 4/4 this also works for 2-1 splits in DE's except its def. not worth splinting the DE at this point unless you KNOW you can't win.
One player concedes, then the winner trades the extra packs to the loser. It takes a level of trust to do.
Yep the MTGO community is usually good though, beside verbal/written abuse (which I find amusing) I've only been cheated twice - 1) via someone taking my boosters and then proceeded to play me anyways :argh: and 2) being timeout via spam trade request on the old client.

You deck looks pretty solid, MDU. I will admit to being amused at your Storm hate after where it touched you when you started this format.
I still hate Storm :argh:

I'm currently 3-0 in this DE, I may play against ANT in the finals (for the love of god I hope not).

EDIT: I ended up pairing with the ANT guy he took the split  so its another 4-0 (yay I'm on 9 QP).

I've gotten better at identifying decks - though I still use my cheat notes (aka MTGOGOLDFISH) - I can write up a mini-sideboard plan which I'll LOVE for you guys to shred
apart (since some of my choice feel dubious even for me)

3 Smash to Smithereens
2 Dragon's Claw
2 Ashen Rider
2 Pyrostatic Pillar[/deck]

Notes:
I'm not running Sulfuric Vortex or Ensnaring Bridge because I don't believe they're needed and I think hitting 3 lands can be challenging (even with 20 lands).
I moved the Fork Bolt into the MD over Vexing Devil because I wanted more outs vs Aggro.
I Tossed in 2x Pyrostatic Pillar so that I'll have Eidolon of the Great Revel 5 and 6 for the annoying Storm decks.
I also decided to run 3x Smash since I removed 2x Pithing Needles.

EDIT: I fixed the typo: Pillar
of Fire was meant to be Pyrostatic Pillar (cheers Lazer)

Also damn... I misread Crypt - I thought it worked liked Rest in Peace :gonk:

It is a matter of personal preference. I prefer Crypt because it costs no mana. Relic cycles and is better in the long term against things like Goyf.
Hmmmm... I would have figured that Crypt would be better in the long term because it isn't difficult to refill the yard. I need to read more

Anyhow I'm currently 3-0 in my second DE attempt, I havn't made any changes yet because when I logged on I notice that I was 1 minute away from an event firing  anyhow my current hurdle is deck identification - I'm really
having problems sideboarding because I have no idea what I'm playing against, I still manage to get by via guesses based on the few cards I see and frantically searching MTGOGOLDFISH for a decks playing those cards.

If possible could someone type out a guide identifying when Price of Progress is good or not? I find myself dealing 2 damage most of the time with the silly card since everyone just fetch basics even in 3c decks.

EDIT2: Yay another 4-0  - Pithing Needle did nothing but it didn't seem horrible this event - still want to replace it once I find time to collect my thoughts

Disregard combo.
In my PoV I believe this is the correct stance because we're most likely going to lose G1 vs Combo anyways.

Comments on [card]Tormod's Crypt[/card] vs Relic of Progenitus? I'm running Relic right now but I think the Crypt is generally better for the decks we bring in yard hate for (unless I'm missing a MU where this isn't the case??).

P.S. I oddly like the 1x VD, its a decent card for feeding GL and it trades with almost everything - I may trade it in for 1x Fork Bolt or even Sudden Shock (because infect is suddenly all the rage).

Because I'm a budget noob and I don't want to buy Mindbreak Trap I'm going to try and run pacoelflaco's list - I'm not going to make any changes beside swapping Red Elemental Blast for Pyroblast (since I don't own any REB) because I don't understand the format well enough to make any well informed decisions.

[deck=pacoelflaco's Burn (7-0 MOCS list)]Creatures 13
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Goblin Guide
4 Grim Lavamancer
1 Vexing Devil

Spells 28

3 Red Elemental Blast
3 Relic of Progenitus
2 Smash to Smithereens
2 Dragon's Claw
2 Ashen Rider
2
Pithing Needle
1 Forked Bolt[/deck]

I'll report back once I find time to play a DE or SE.
Currently 3-0 in my first DE attempt, the videos will be terrible though since I shot myself in the foot a fair few times with some HORRIBLE plays.

Initial comments:

I don't like Pithing Needles (I'll admit half the problem is because I have no idea what to name :p - the second and more important half of the reason is that it doesn't deal damage which became a problem during my game against Delver).

I love the 4x Grim and 4x Searing Blaze MD (I havn't faced combo yet which maybe the reason why).

I may just man up and buy Blak's list - Blak's comments in this thread and the MOCS report have been so very helpful (on that note what are you on now Blak).

EDIT2: I 4-0'ed ,
really glad Blak helped me get over my Legacy traumas

Its obv. that you don't want Price of Progress vs monocolour decks but do any other legacy deck run enough basic lands to make price a bad keep? Which decks bring in lifegain effect M2-3 which make us want to keep Sulfuric Vortex?

[quote="BlakLanner » Sun Sep 07, 2014 9:11 am"]Mocs Season 9 Finals Tournament Report – Top 8
117 Players, 7 Rounds
[deck]Fetchless Burn[/deck]

Round 1: Dragrage, Mono Green (2-1)
I thought this was a Standard deck at first until he played Leatherback Baloth. This deck actually has some issues with multiple large attackers in succession. I made
it out of game 1 with a decent draw. Game 2 saw me never see my second land. Game 3, I Searing Blooded his 1-drop, Chain Lightninged his 2-drop and then dropped an Eidolon and trapped him under it.
1-0 (2-1)

Round 2: ChrisaoSilva, UWR Delver (2-1)
I played this guy several times in the practice room as a warmup before the tournament so I had an idea as to what he was on. Game 1 was another 1 land keep and drawing a lot of 2 mana spells. He played Stoneforge, True-Name, then Jitte with equip. In Game 2 I mulled to 6, he went to 5. He played a turn 2 Stoneforge and Forced my only kill spell but I topdecked a Smash to Smithereens the turn after he dropped the Batterskull and it was enough. Game 3 was pretty epic. It started with Delver vs Goblin Guide. My Guide gets bolted and he plays Meddling Mage on Price of Progress (1 in hand). I drop an Eidolon that trades with his Mage on
his next attack. I drop a second Eidolon and it eats a Swords. He plays another Mage on Price of Progress which eats a Chain Lightning. He then plays Stoneforge finding Jitte. At this point, I am at 7 facing Stoneforge, flipped Delver, unflipped Delver. His Delver flips showing Force and he tries to play and equip Jitte. I drop my Price and it sneaks through.
2-0 (4-2)
Round 3: TKC55, Miracles (2-1)
I open with 2 Devils. He lets one live. He opens with Plains, Plains, Top. I play an Eidolon and he flips his Top showing Terminus. Sulfuric Vortex gets Forces and he plays Counterbalance. Back to back Entreat the Angels finishes me. Game 2 had my Eidolon Forced into a turn 3 Counter-Top. I somehow get a Guide through and start hitting him. To stop a Vortex, he taps his top to get a Swan Song, but has to shuffle the top away to cast it. I manage to beat him down and force
through the last few points of burn damage. Game 3 had my Guide eat a Swords. My turn 3 Eidolon forces my opponent to Clique himself in response. He establishes Counter-Top next turn. My Vortex gets hit with a Swan Song and the token dies to the Explosives he had on top. He establishes Counter-Top at 3 life. My subsequent suspended Rift Bolt has him searching frantically for a three. He fails but finds a Snapcaster for the Swan Song. That leaves him open to a topdecked Flame Rift.
3-0 (6-3)

Round 4: pacoelflaco, Burn (0-2)
This was a short match. He was on the “fetchful” version with Lavamancer, which is very good for him in a Burn mirror. I get Eidolon both games but he only gets hit with one trigger in the whole match as I eat a lot of damage from my Flame Rifts and multiple Fireblasts from him.
3-1 (6-5)

Round 5: dav5037, Burn (2-1)
He had main deck Searing Blood and that made Game 1 a close game that wouldn’t otherwise have been. Game 2 has me stall on one land again and 1 Guide vs his 2. Mulled to 6 in Game 3 but he lets a Devil live probably thinking he would block and shoot with the Lavamancer he played on the turn after. He realized he can’t and it gets a hit in. I finish with Fireblast.
4-1 (8-6)

Round 6: CharlieTheBananaKing, Elves (2-0)
I play a Guide on turn 1, kill his Dryad Arbor and then play “Kill the Symbiote” for a few turns while I hit him with the Guide and a Devil he let live thinking he would be able to eternally block it. In Game 2, he mulliganed to 3 and watched me go Eidolon into Searing Blood his Dryad Arbor. He understandably concedes.
5-1 (10-6)

Round 7: DNIWE, BUG Delver (1-2)
Game 1 was a traditional affair where Guide fights Deathrite and my Eidolon gets Dazed. He hits with Goyf and I finish with Rift and Price of Progress. Game 2 threw me for one hell of a loop. He didn’t do much on the first two turns while I play a few spells. Then, on turn 3, he Show and Tells into Iona. I play another turn or to for more information and then concede. Game 3 was a bit of a longer affair. He puts in a Goyf a few turns in while I play around a lot of counterspells and get him down to 4 when he casts another Show and Tell for Iona. I put a Vortex in but that just means he is at 2 life when he swings for lethal next turn.
5-2 (11-7)

At this point, the math says that I am eliminated from Top 8. 2 players at 6-0 and 12 at 5-1 should mean that both 6-0 are in, win or lose, and all 6 of the winners at 5-1 are in. I wait it out to see how I place and find the miracle of miracles: I
made it in as the 8th seed somehow!

Top 8: pacoelflaco, Burn (0-2)
Game 1 had us both mull to 5. I kept 4 lands and a Rift Bolt hoping to simply draw action each turn. I didn’t. Game 2 had my Devil eat a Bolt and then we trade shots but he draws 2 Eidolons that I have to kill to let him get a bit ahead and then double Fireblasts me.

The Vexing Devils have to go at this point. I cast it 9 times and it was immediately removed 6 of them. People have learned how to deal with it and we cannot afford that inefficiency. Losing Devil means that adding fetch lands is next, since Searing Blaze will probably have to come in for them unless I decide that maining the 3 Searing Blood in my side is enough. All the losses due to mana screw probably means adding a 19th land in the last slot. I can put Pyroblast in the sideboard in those slots as they would have saved me in several games.[/

I attached the replays with your report

P.S. My only complaint with Ashen Rider vs Bridge is that even if you do resolve bridge if you can't cast spells you can't win...

I am very interested to see his deck when they post the lists. I saw a few strange things and they just might work for us.
Any idea when they'll be up? Also who and what won in the end?

P.S. I'll have all your video up sometime today, they're a tad hard to watch since you can't control the replay speeds in V4

Top8'ing a MOCS level event is huge since you'll rarely find another event as competitive, so very well done Blaklanner .

I swear Pacoelflaco should join our forum, he is a solid multi-format burn player.

Damn, really racked up the Rupees there. I will let other people take the prelims. No need for me to get greedy.
I think only you and Khaos are interested in playing legacy online (on a ongoing basis, I know purp also played it once but I think that was for practice mainly), thus I highly recommend taking at least one practice run before the event .
