I'm taking a small break, I've been playing infinite magic the last few months and I'm burned out.

After that, well, the wmc is team unified standard so I need to prepare for that!

Zem, were you happy with 24 lands + 4 jets, or is cutting a land (considering the full playset of jets) a consideration?

Not a Mutavault though, a Forge maybe?
In other lists sure, but I'm running the full eight four drops.

3 Glare was because I knew there would be a lot of Rams and GW. In exactly that field they're great, but it's a really narrow card.

I like Firedancer if you're expecting Mono U, otherwise Reckoner is the man vs Rabble.

Yeah I know Nicastri, guy is a champ.

PWP system sucks badly, they should have just fixed the elo system.

Go to pwp website, set your filter to Australia and annual. Disregard the PTQ winners with a bonus 1000 points.

Burn is a meta choice; with a format as open as it is right now it's a fairly poor choice. You can tweak it to beat two of: aggro, midrange or control, but not all three at once.

If I go to an SCG Open I would certainly expect green and blue devotion.

I have lost a lot of games playing the control role against MB and have lost less than 5 since I switched back to beats. I seriously don't understand how it works for anyone.
I'm a more powerful wizard, obviously.

Seriously, I find it very easy, it's probably just a preference and a difference situational analysis.

Yeah it's ok not great (Stoke). I will run a mortars instead this weekend so I've got access to 4 copies in my 75.

I'm not really liking the extra cost of pillar of light over reprisal, despite the flexibility ~ haven't played many games though.

Ok, all the videos are up.

[deck]
Maindeck
1 Shouta List

Sideboard

3 Toil // Trouble
1 Assemble the Legion
2 Mizzium Mortars
3 Prophetic Flamespeaker
2 Banishing Light
1 Reprisal
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
1 Wear // Tear[/deck]

I considered Boros Reckoner a bit of a crutch so I pulled it out. I would run it in a meta where I expect hexproof. T/T is because I still am weak at the UW matchup but this will be coming out once I have access to more powerful cards like Pillar and Hushwing in M15.

Match 1 vs MBC using Skullcrack. Board plan was -4 shock, -1 mortar, -4 charm, +3 speaker, +2 Chandra, 1 Reprisal, 1 Assemble, 2 Banish. Both game 1 and 2, I wasted too many
spells, he played too many threats, and I died.

Match 2 vs MBC without Skullcrack. Board plan is -4 charm and skullcrack, +2 mortar, +2 chandra, +2 banish, 1 reprisal, 1 assemble. He gained 8 life unopposed and still lost.

Match 3 vs MBC. Same plan. He boarded in Staff of Death Magus, gassed himself out with packrat, and got stampeded when I cleared his board.

Match 4 vs Gb Devotion. I boarded poorly for this because I didn't realize he was on Poly and forgot I'd seen a burning tree. Should have used the same sideboard as match 2 and 3. He gained 8 life with a disciple when I tapped out with skullcrack in hand. Didn't matter as he strangely didn't swing his creatures in and let me mortars his board and I
chewed through his life total for a couple turns.

I like the vids. You need to slow down and think, start to think at least a turn ahead; your sequencing wasn't very good against MBC: eg, getting in for two with Mutavault when you coukd resolve Pyro with mana up or going for main phase Helix to kill him instead of doing it in his upkeep to tap him out if he goes for activate Nytavaukt pkus Devour Fkesh himself etc; in general it felt like you were too focused on getting Max damage in per turn instead if getting value from cards; if you get value then damage will inevitably result anyway.

Nobody is on the Phyrexian Revoker plan like blacklanner? I thought his 75 was very well thought out, but haven't had a chance to test it.
I appreciate the praise. I am probably more on the aggressive side compared to some of the other players on this forum. I did remain on a modified Eidolon version until M15 and Stoke forced me to change to Pyromancer. Revoker, for me, is simplay a "you have to deal with this
before you can enact your game plan" card. It fits my play style a bit more than the grindier cards that tat the other people play.
I'm definitely going to try it, if for no other reason, just to mess with Jace. Although god knows when I'll make it to a tournament. My job is really ruining my magic time.

[quote="Purp » Mon Jul 21, 2014 11:52 pm"]Did testing last night with Z mana base, shouta list with stoke replacing Mizzium Mortar against mono black.

SB was

[deck]3 Flamespeaker
2 Chandra
2 Pillar
2 B-Light
1 Wear
3 Mizzium Mortars
2 Assemble[/deck]

The mono B list was running NVS instead of Lifebane. -4 Skull crack -4 BC I was not a fan of, them gaining life twice (whether is 2 gary, devour fleshing or pharikas cures is pretty hard to overcome). I struggled with deciding to use 8 or 11 cards post board.

Was typically doing something like: -1 Stoke -4 BC -2 Shock -1 Jet -2 WLH -1Skullcrack +3 Flame(not sure about this card in this matchup, I have not tested it enough) +2 Pillar +2 Chandra +2 BL +2 Assemble

My opponent was doing something like: +3 Duress +2 Doom Blade +2 Cure[/quote:
u9aghol8]

I think some of the problem is that you're strategically trying to do two things with this SB plan;
- race; and
- control

These roles are about as far apart as you can be. That's a problem because it creates enormous in inconsistency in your draws. If you're trying to out ca them, you don't care about them gaining life; I don't want to be paying mana to discard a card. Thing is, they run 26 land and no card draw or deck manipulation after board (if they follow Owen's SB approach); we run 23 land with 10 scry and ~7 ca engines. At some point something will stick and you'll start to get ahead. Or They'll flood out.

Trying to cover all bases with sideboarding really makes it hard to achieve this.

I don't want then to topdeck Pack Rat and I too deck Skullcrack, that would be a bad feels.

Thing is, you need to play SO MUCH to understand this. Many "pros" don't. I'm lucky that I've played infinite mono blue control in pauper (MUC vs MBC in pauper is *almost* Burn vs
MBC in standard) and you have to play hundreds of games to see what a difference the deck manipulation and small amount of draw make.

So maybe you SB back into your game 1 shell (with some upgrades) and slay them?

It's almost like sideboarding is too complicated to be reduced to a simple "ins and outs" and players may need to think for themselves!
