I don't really feel like I need Eidolon in the Mono B matchup at all, he is pretty much only good on t2 and as late as t4, I don't miss him in that matchup at all. The additional Stokes makes G1 pretty much in your favor when trying to race. Searing Blood in the deck makes your G1 matchup vs pretty much every deck better (even UW)(helps a lot vs rabble red in G1), and postboard vs black I don't mind leaving in 1 or 2 depending on variant.

As for UW, I don't think Eidolon is that good vs them anyway. I think the best way to play the UW matchup is to cast your stuff on curve(I am of the opinion if you don't make your 4th land drop on turn 4 you will lose), and play Glare of Heresy when they chain your phoenix and Chandra. Z ran 3, and I am wondering how it was for him, I could see it being pretty good in an environment where you expect to play control more than once (you will undoubtedly see them plays Rams).

The
only way to make that matchup considerably better is to really overhaul your SB. At this point, I am building my deck for the open and praying on what I think will be the more popular decks, hoping to avoid control if possible.

I would love to try and fit in 1 reprisal for Obzedats, but I am assuming that I will play more matches where I want Reckoner over Reprisal. I could also see trying to squeeze the skullcrack back in, cutting the 3rd jet.

You can still win games when you flood out, but you will pretty much lose if you never hit at least 4 mana. I still like magma jet in post board games.

Here is what I plan on playing in paper tomorrow.

[deck]

Creatures (8)

4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Lands (24)

8 Mountain
4 Battlefield Forge
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph

Spells (29)

4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
3 Shock
3 Skullcrack
3 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix

SB
3 Boros Reckoner
3 Satyr Firedancer
1 Skullcrack
2 Chandra
2 Glare of Heresy
3 Chained to the Rocks
1 Banishing Light
[/deck]

Might cut 3rd jet to fit Skullcrack back into the main.

if a new archetype forms, a new thread will usually get posted. But I imagine RDW thread will just transition into Khans cards, but a Big Red thread (hoping this deck works out) would get started if the deck was legit.

I'll be burning next weekend at the Atlanta Open, let's hope for good matchups!

That RB deck seems like it was made to beat burn and burn only. Its so much easier to skip through combat step on the new client.

Here is currently where I am at

[deck]Lands 24
4 Battlefield Forge
8 Mountain
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph

Creatures 08
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Non-creature Spells 36
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
3 Shock
3 Skullcrack
3 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix
4 Searing Blood

SB
3 Satyr Firedancer
2 Reckoner
2 Glare
2 Chandra
4 Chains
1 BL
1 Skullcrack

I am trying to prepare for for the new rabble burn deck that was displayed on SCG, as I believe it is a strict upgrade to the current Rabble Red. In which case, firedancer and reckoner are even imo vs Green decks, with reckoner having a huge edge in the rabble red and burn matchup where firedancer only has the edge against mono u.

Ran through a few 8 mans last night with Z's list as a starting point (changed a few cards around) in prep for the open. Had a lot of close calls with rabble red and it was most due to drawing firedancer late game when I needed to be drawing a spell. What I like the most about Z's list and what I've noticed from recent well placing lists, is density of certain spells. Sometime creating the most consistent form of the deck can be the best.

Some thoughts from testing last night:
I don't think I want to run less than 4 WLH in an Open environment. I was initially impressed with 4 stoke/3 WLH, but I realize the life gain against Rabble Red or even burn is crucial.

Here is where I think I currently am:

[deck]Creatures
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Non-creature Spells
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
2 Magma Jet(+1)
4 Shock
3 Searing Blood(-1) I like this can help put a clock on rabble.
3
Skullcrack
3 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix

Lands
4 Battlefield Forge
8 Mountain
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph

Sideboard
4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Chandra
1 Skullcrack
3 Satyr Firedancer
3 Boros Reckoner
[/deck]

Reckoner is there as another blocker for rabble, as a threat against burn (I dislike phoenix in this matchup), in concession to green decks (whether it be a monsters variant or gw aggro) and a POSSIBLE creature for UW (resilient to last breath, provides 2 dmg vs jace, and may eat a dsphere [untested, but tomorrow my play group will be running the gauntlet so I'll get more idea])

I don't want to lose to Red decks or burn mirrors, which has me contemplating running Rams in the spot of reckoner. However, the lack of mortars has me fearing monsters variants. (I could see -3 Satyr, -3 Reckoner +3 Rams +3 Mortars. Rams don't die to searing blood, which can hurt pretty bad vs rabble. But I am convinced firedancer is better than
mortars vs mono u)

I am also debating trying to get 2 chains into the main, in order to achieve this I'd probably -1 Searing Blood, -1 Stoke. This would open up 2 SB slots. I feel weak to DDemon in G1.

edit: brad nelsons newer Rabble Red list (viewtopic.php?p=253357#p253357) just destroys his burn opponent. reckoner seems like it will be nice to have if that is flooding the Atlanta open. Firedancer stocks goes down when they are siding in 4 searing bloods and 2 magma sprays.

Looks like I am going to play in the Atlanta open so I'll have to do much better testing than what I have been.

How has the 4 firedancer plan been working for everyone? Is it better in yall's opinion vs Mono U (which lets face it, isn't going anywhere) than running 3-4 mortars?

I don't believe less than 3 helix's is correct (2 at the least).

Chained is better than BL in the main, in G1, the "catch all" clause is not very relevant. We are either ignoring PWs in G1, or chaining a big creature.

I would expect a lot of control at Syracuse
If that is the case, I may have to put the FDS back in.

[deck]
1 Chained to the Rocks
3 Firedrinker Satyr
3 Satyr Firedancer
2 Banishing Light
2 Hushwing Gryff
2 Prophetic Flamespeaker
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
[/deck]

I lose Wear/Tear in this version and it honestly terrifies me. I may have no choice, though.

@Whole - I think you would be ok bringing a single pillar in vs Mono U (If I had only 3 mortars I would, if I had 4 mortars I would leave pillar int he SB). I would say it also depends on how you play your Mono B matchup. If I only had access to 3 mortars, I would want 3 flamespeakers. I would really want 4 mortars though, its great vs GW,, mono green, junk, monsters, boss slligh and Mono U.

I think with your list, -1 Stoke +1 MM main. -1 Toil, +2nd reprisal/1 pillar.

But if you want to play Stoke, -1 Toil +1 Flamespeaker

I don't think you need them, but I think it is important to understand how MUCH harder that matchup is without 1 drops or toils. Chandra, BL and Wear CAN be enough, but as a pilot, you have to play a whole lot differently. Lucky for you Blak, you have SCG Dallas and PT this weekend, so you can expect shifts from that.

Alright leaving for SCG Dallas tomorrow. Anyone has any tweaks for this list? (Especially sideboard) It's pretty standard, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious. I guess it's just last minute nerves.

Image
Id cut the stoke the flame for mortars. GW and Mono U will be on the rise, you will be much happier seeing mortars G1, than you will be scrying Stoke to the bottom.

I'd move the BL to the SB and the Chain back to MD. In G1, chain deals with problem creatures to allow you finish your race. Banishing Light deals with cards that you don't really care about G1 anyway.

Id cut 1 toil for either a 2nd reprisal (or 1
pillar of light), or for the 3rd flamespeaker. Flamespeaker is the literal nuts in the burn mirror, which you can expect to face. [You will face more decks with 4/4+ or mono U/mirror than you will Control.]

There is absolutely no reason to run a guildgate, make it a temple of malice (especially since you have toil), 3rd forge, or 4th mutavault.

I ran a 2 of pillar, and it was great at killing things when I needed it to. However, killing a courser was only relevant in 1 game of the 4 matches I played against it. The casting cost did matter, because it stops you from doing 2 spells a turn. I would most likely do a split of 1 reprisal and 1 pillar of light, 2 reprisals is equally good, but the chance to killa courser/archangel can be relevant if you are expecting junk.

Lost r1 to naya walkers
rd 2: beat mono g (splashing black)
rd 3: beat mono g
rd 4: beat jund monsters
r5: beat burn
r6: lost UW.

This is how the past 3 fucking IQs have gone for me. I lose round 1, battle back, then lose win and in for the ultimate tilts, walk out without even collecting prizes haha.
