This is precisely why I don't like writing primers anymore, people take my thoughts as absolutes and apply them too rigidly. Playing the YP turn 2 vs. Esper should obviously be the correct play. Adding 2 to your clock now in unarguably better than waiting to try and make a 1/1 later. I still think ...

G1: GR Aggro G2: MonoBlack Devotion G3: UW Control G4: UW Control First off, loving the music. Second off, Match 3 Game 1. You scryed into a Phoenix and EOT Shocked for a PyroToken when he was tapped out. Which is a decent play, but had you waited for the Verdict, you could have Shocked next turn w...

If you can't find a non-creature way to keep us off Young Pyromancer or Chandra's Phoenix, we're eventually going to out draw you. Banisher priest just isn't removal versus us. You don't have enough mountains to use chained but I still think it's correct to say you need to be the control deck versus...

That is true, last season mocked all over Jace AoT. But yes, my entire issue is I'm trying to wrap my head around when we want to and are able to cast it. I don't think it's worth it if you use it for just one effect. Alpha strike, pseudo silence, removal, phoenix recursion. It has to be able to do ...

If nothing else, Fury is also direct damage, an additional falter effect, and Silence. I've often wanted an x spell for the damage potential, but Volcanic Geyser seems too narrow. I might try it out. Well, it's definitely better than Geyser but at best it's, X=4? If it were full silence, it'd be am...

A single Nykthos doesn't seem like enough to consider Aurelia's Fury. The g/r devotion deck that stuffs 4 Nykthos in is the only current deck that can reliably profit off Fury in my opinion. Uh, except they have that G/R burn spell. Nevermind.

Due to the wording of [card]Pyromancer's Gauntlet[/card], you assign the damage without factoring it in. When the spell deals damage, gauntlet causes the effect to do +2 to each permanent or player that was assigned damage. Chandra's +1 works the same way and assigns 1/1 but deals 3/3. This does mea...

Probably. It's only useless against mono red. It might be too slow for mono blue. If we had a meta that clearly called for Flames of the Firebrand , then Gauntlet would definitely be a solid addition. Ha! Chandra's ultimate hitting FotF with Gauntlet out would be something, yeah? Well, Chandra's ul...

For me, Pyromancer's Gauntlet ends the game typically if unanswered in about 2-3 turns and as stated, it's hard to remove. However, I run 24 lands. Is 2-3 4's and a 5 really a good idea on the typical 23 land build? On a more important note, I think the primer needs another paragraph near the top go...

-4 shock, -2 jet, +3 skullcrack, +2 boros charm, +1 hammer is probably the best call. I would normally never consider dropping magma jet against normal esper but it's probably better to go under BBV and charm/skullcrack do that more efficiently before the scry becomes as much of a factor. And you do...

You can't board out enough things to make Anger playable in your deck. Shock is a better card in that matchup since it's quicker and gives you an option of getting back phoenixes to block. Why not Flames of the firebrand instead of burning earth since you're already mentioning it not working so grea...

I know this is a bad idea when I say it. I'm now going to say it anyway. You have 12 black sources and 22 lands. I've been testing with Last Breath for a few games but 9 times out of 10, I would prefer it be mortars. Making a play gambling on a 4/51 chance that is guaranteed to fall flat if you fail to hit it is too poor of odds. Might as well force him to use the bird. Weapon surge is cute as a surprise defense with tokens but it doesn't sound like the meta game is currently in favor of creature combat tricks. I wouldn't use coordinated assault only because it can't buff elementals that would come into play with Young Pyromancer. A lone Pyro suddenly becomes 5 fir...

Maybe I haven't tested it enough but Hunter only needs a card or two to be a 4/4 for 3 which is more than enough of a threat vs control. It's biggest issue is it can be a weak topdeck.

However, red burn can kill Hunter (burn in response to the ETB trigger).
