I don't think Gauntlet meshes with a deck who also wants to get a lot of value from its one drops by closing out a game quickly. I've personally loved it as a midrange card though.

You might need to play with the white color and find one that fits a bit better on the background. Only criticism.

I typically take out chained against red decks game 2 and if they don't show peak eruption, bring them back for game 3, if there is one. You take a risk with their phoenix's because if you don't draw one to counter theirs, you're in big trouble. If you have your own to match, you have more burn and ...

Fair enough. I've tried not to play into Anger or immediate removal but that's clearly the wrong call if they're planning on stripping the hand. Putting them in a postiion where casting Rakdos is likely to kill them makes sense.

Generally it's dead the turn after that and at best, I'm 1+1 Chandra exile cards to their 4 with an empty board.

Mind you I've only seen it three times so perhaps I haven't had enough experience to play through it by pressuring them earlier.

If they don't hit you with a lethal Rak, it usually isn't a problem. Remember that you can respond to it with a burn, and getting two Phoenix back can screw up their math. Typically I'm hit with it when I'm tapped out casting one of the Chandra types and it's generally around turn 5. I should test ...

And no offence, it's hypocritical to argue that the text of one card is sufficient to be worth mentioning and dismissing another card that sees inclusion for the same reason. It seems trite to tell me that the text of the cards are actually different though. Reckoner is better for grindy matchups. ...

I agree that the right call is just to ignore desecration demon. It's only good versus us alongside other fatties because you can keep it tapped for basically ever. The hammer didn't help you in this matchup? More boros charms makes the Junk and other B/x matchups a lot more favorable. I can appreci...

@Freedom Giving up your one drops feels weaker in GW unless you are on the draw because you can get damage through with Chandra/Traitorous. On the draw, I could see cutting cackler, maybe. Depends on their curve I suppose. Cutting one drops vs big boros I'm sure is death. They're not blocking early ...

Sounds like you made the same mistake I did trying to control Junk. You just have to go under them to have a chance in mono red. Reckoner is bad vs B/x for just that reason because it doesn't attack until turn 4 and doesn't get card advantage in that matchup. I think the answer is to take out shock,...

It's come up a few times as worthy of experimentation. It also gets rid of phoenixes which is equally important. I think there was even a leaning of putting 1-2 mainboard. Can't remember the layout exactly.

My biggest question is playing with scry lands, when is it worth playing the scry land to peek at the top. If you scry down and then reveal another land, you've basically lost your draw and if it was a mutavault, then...yeah. I tend to consider it a desperation move.

Question. If everyone is moving away from burning earth, what do you lose/gain going boros? Seems like you lose either 1 drops or mutavaults. Game 1: I agree with you that it was a good play on your part. It was a bad play on his part to block. His life total matters less than yours in this matchup. 21 lands is more than enough for 2 drops, the mutavaults won't hurt him.
He only has 2 one drops so gates aren't really going to slow him down either. Also, he has :symr: :symr: and :symu: :symu: on 15/14 colors, he can't go lower and expect to cast them.

I'll leave the actual merits of nykthos to others, and focus my commentary on the minor procedural issues. @ Elricity The Shrine is interesting, however, if any of your T1 or T2 plays dies, you can't use it for T3 Reckoner, which makes me worry. We also don't have mana dumps, so I'm not sure what to use the mana on. I'm only suggesting Nykthos as a replacement for the 2nd mutavault which can't cast T3 r...

You put mortars in the side to shore up the mirror match on the draw and have it be still somewhat useful in your other matches. If you didn't have to face the mirror, then sure, you would slam in 4 acts and call it a day. That said, the split between them really depends on what your main deck looks...
