So he ended up 2nd with this list?

Same variations we've seen before... deck really comes down to pilot skill more than anything else I feel these days.

[deck]Creatures (8)

4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer
Lands (23)

8 Mountain
3 Battlefield Forge
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
Spells (29)

4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
2 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
4 Shock
4 Skullcrack
4 Stoke the Flames
3 Warleader's Helix
Sideboard

2 Banishing Light
3 Chained to the Rocks
2 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Satyr Firedancer
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Glare of Heresy[/deck]

Only a couple more weeks of burning left... Are you guys still gonna post here in new threads? I've never seen what DTR is like through rotations

if a new archetype forms, a new thread will usually get posted. But I imagine RDW thread will just transition into Khans cards, but a Big Red thread (hoping this deck works out) would get started if the deck was legit.

I'll be burning next weekend at the Atlanta Open, let's hope for good matchups!

To be honest even if new archetype (something like my tokens) spawn right now, rotation is so close that I dont give a shit about it. Better have more strenght for after rotation ;)

Rabblered is the most popular deck on MTGO now according to MTGoldfish. Guess I'll get as many tix as I can before rotation :)

Zem, were you happy with 24 lands + 4 jets, or is cutting a land (considering the full playset of jets) a consideration?

Not a Mutavault though, a Forge maybe?

p.s. I find it hard to rate our creatures against green devotion decks, also cause they are very rarely played here in italy but there's a WMCQ this weekend and anything might happen. Pyromancer's Tokens seem to be good at blocking, but they can hardly attack through the assorted garbage. Phoenix is slow and doesn't help control the game, but probably goes through their defenses unharmed. Firedancer seems excellent considering their lack of removal, but what's the cut? Eidolon... who knows.
Can anyone share their feedback? Thanks

You'll probably find a lot of RabbleRed so, if you manage to dodge GW and monoU, Burn can be a good choice.
I really don't think you should care about monoG too much, as the only Green Devotion deck I've spotted in Riccione was Picciafuochi's, and he switched to RabbleRed in Milan... generally speaking, there's too much UW going around to let monoG be a serious contender.

@Cloudscraper: Magma Jet is good but it still isn't a land so if you plan on running 4 Stoke the Flames and 4 Warleader's Helix you'll need 24 lands.

That said in paper I've seen people run 4x Hellrider with 20 land deck in top8 so

You can still win games when you flood out, but you will pretty much lose if you never hit at least 4 mana. I still like magma jet in post board games.

Here is what I plan on playing in paper tomorrow.

[deck]

Creatures (8)

4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Lands (24)

8 Mountain
4 Battlefield Forge
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph

Spells (29)

4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
3 Shock
3 Skullcrack
3 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix

SB
3 Boros Reckoner
3 Satyr Firedancer
1 Skullcrack
2 Chandra
2 Glare of Heresy
3 Chained to the Rocks
1 Banishing Light
[/deck]

Might cut 3rd jet to fit Skullcrack back into the main.

Something is wrong there, you now run a total of 5 Skullcracks in your 75...

I've been trying to jump around and find a fun but competitive deck for my wmcq coming up, which is my final tournament of this format. I've tried a lot of sweet janky decks like RUG Chord, and UG Yisan. It's been a good time, but I don't think it's the level of competition I want to be at. I then realised that I haven't actually played any burn with stoke the flames legal, and after a few games at night I think I'm back on this deck again.

Testing Zemanjaskis very streamlined list, I think the tweaks I'd make are pretty in line with Purps list. Eidolon has felt really great vs Mono B and UW, how do you feel vs uw without them purp? Are there any decks besides those two that eidolon is good against?

I don't really feel like I need Eidolon in the Mono B matchup at all, he is pretty much only good on t2 and as late as t4, I don't miss him in that matchup at all. The additional Stokes makes G1 pretty much in your favor when trying to race. Searing Blood in the deck makes your G1 matchup vs pretty much every deck better (even UW)(helps a lot vs rabble red in G1), and postboard vs black I don't mind leaving in 1 or 2 depending on variant.

As for UW, I don't think Eidolon is that good vs them anyway. I think the best way to play the UW matchup is to cast your stuff on curve(I am of the opinion if you don't make your 4th land drop on turn 4 you will lose), and play Glare of Heresy when they chain your phoenix and Chandra. Z ran 3, and I am wondering how it was for him, I could see it being pretty good in an environment where you expect to play control more than once (you will undoubtedly see them plays Rams).

The
only way to make that matchup considerably better is to really overhaul your SB. At this point, I am building my deck for the open and praying on what I think will be the more popular decks, hoping to avoid control if possible.

I would love to try and fit in 1 reprisal for Obzedats, but I am assuming that I will play more matches where I want Reckoner over Reprisal. I could also see trying to squeeze the skullcrack back in, cutting the 3rd jet.

3 Glare was because I knew there would be a lot of Rams and GW. In exactly that field they're great, but it's a really narrow card.

I like Firedancer if you're expecting Mono U, otherwise Reckoner is the man vs Rabble.

I'll really miss being able to drop game 1 vs Rabble Red and still feel 85% confident that I'll win the match. #BorosBurnProblems

Just had the pleasure of someone siding in Peak Eruption in the mirror. Haven't had that happen to me since like the start of JOU? Geez it's so brutal. Was right after I scried a mountain that I thought I wouldn't need to the bottom.

Guys, do you keep stats of your overall results with your decks? I was close to 70 % with Burn but fell to 50% during the last two weeks. I dunno if its me, or bad luck or a shifting meta that slowly adapted to Burn...I just don't win that much anymore :-(

Played Zem's latest list in my WMCQ (italy) today.

Lost in the top4 to Rabble Burn (Brad Nelson's latest creation, much much tougher than regular burn, Purphoros is insane)

I came 15th place during the standard MOCS today running:

[deck=MDU's Boros Burn]Lands 23
8 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
3 Mutavault
2 Battlefield Forge
1 Temple of Silence
1 Temple of Malice

Creatures 08
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Spells 29
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Searing Blood
4 Shock
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Warleader's Helix
3 Skullcrack
2 Flame of the Firebrand

Sideboard 15
1 Banishing Light
1 Skullcrack
2 Boros Reckoner
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Glare of Heresy
3 Chained to the Rocks
4 Satyr Firedancer[/deck]

I lost against BW (who went 7-0 because I made a side-boarding error) and I lost against a anti-burn deck (UW Control with Fiendslayer Paladin, Nyx-Fleece Ram and Radiant Fountain).

Ummm... SBP and thoughts on the deck? I'm not sure since I actually built the list early last week and haven't touch magic right up until MOCS started (I
was busy) - the Flame of the Firebrand was ment too be a metagame choice too take out NVS, Rats, Rabble Red except I never got any blow outs so they felt rather lack laster. I'm most likely going to toss 1-2 Magma Jets back into the list and run the 3rd Chandra to improve my odds against control.

I posted the replay here if your interested.

Last days of burn

Postby HK1997 » Tue Sep 16, 2014 11:21 am

Here is what I would be running now in this online meta:

[deck=HK's final list]
Enchantments 3
3 Chained to the Rocks

Burn 24
4 Shock
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
3 Skullcrack
4 Boros Charm
4 Warleader Helix
2 Searing Blood

Creatures 8
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Planeswalkers 2
2 Chandra, Pyromaster

Lands 23
4 Battlefield Forge
3 Mutavault
8 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph

Sideboard 15
1 Searing Blood
1 Chained to the Rocks
3 Mizzium Mortars
2 Reprisal
1 Deicide
1 Wear // Tear
4 Boros Reckoner
1 Wild Ricochet
[/deck]

It is quite resilient vs all the monoG and Gx devo madness online and has a GREAT SB for the mirror and red aggro. Other than that it didnt seem to me that there was a specifically bad matchup. "Protect the queen" wins a decent amount of matches if the board lines up that way - Or you can force it of course.

nHappy Hunting! :munch:

EDIT: congrats to MDU and Zem on their performances. So Z, are you going to be playing anything we can watch vs a strong meta like online? I'm sure preying on the local aussies must be boring you...

I'm taking a small break, I've been playing infinite magic the last few months and I'm burned out.

After that, well, the wmc is team unified standard so I need to prepare for that!

Been thinking about what to play post-rotation, leaning towards Gruul ramp at the moment, as it just seems broken. Also considered B/W aggro (better than mono-black aggro imo as you get Sorin for aggro mirrors). My other thought is Boros Burn, you can make an approximation of Z's original pyrowhite deck, but replacing YP with rabblemaster and old phoneix with new phoenix. I'm not sure the new version is as powerful as the old version (less synergy), but still looks pretty sweet. If we're expecting a lot of courser/caryatid decks, then I'd consider putting more Sarkan or stormbreath in to the main, as an answer to Xenagos/Nissa:

Pillar of Light might be better than Reprisal because of Courser. Why Burn Away, and not Fated Conflagration, if you want something that removes big creatures? Glare of Heresy might be a good sideboard alternative since it removes many of the bigger Abzan and Mardu creatures, Banishing Light et al, and Sorin + Elspeth.

Burn away is just a hedge against dredge/graveyard tbh.

Pillar of light is a good shout, nice that it Exiles as well. My main thought with having the 3 additional white exile effects, was if you're playing against G/x and they sideboard in their enchantment hate for your CTTRs (I expect to see a lot of courser/caryatid ramp decks, where the main threats will be genesis hydra/polukranos, on top of the walkers).

I did consider fated conflagration, but realised banishing light is just better as it deals with basically anything.

This is actually my problem in general with the deck: your removal suite can deal with most threats, but a lot of the time they (green ramp) get a 2-4-1 and beat you on card advantage (genesis hydra, xenagos, nissa etc all leave something behind)
