Another 3-1 at FNM. I blame this on fatigue as I didn't sleep at all after MM midnight draft(2-1 with R/W giants).
Highlights being game round 4 game 1. Paired against my buddy James. Basically a troll likes to shit talk a lot. I win the roll, mull to 5. R/G agro vs. Zombies. He makes comments like I should concede/lets go to game two. I respond, I don't want to deprive him of the practice, he needs it. Opener is fine. Stromkirk go. His turn one, he thinks for a while, then says he doesn't care and unleashes Rakdos Cackler. Should've cared, that stromkirk got to 5/5. We race a bit in the early turns. He lands Valroz. I start killing his guys end of his turn or before my combat face to force him to regen valroz, tapping it. Game gets tight, I draw a Reckoner. Psuedo board stall. He kills a reckoner, gets in damage, a draw another. He tanks for 5 minutes while I'm hellbent. I tell him he's bad if he messes up since he
has perfect information. Scavenge a guy, cast messenger, pass. Life totals are 6-10 in my favor. His board is tapped messenger, 4/3 lotleth troll, 6/4(?) valroz(randor). My board is 5/5 Noble, Reckoner. I draw...reckoner. Think for a second, slam it and pass. He tanks, shocks himself, plays cackler, sacrfices messenger, cackler, and messenger, scavenges everything and swings. Double block the biggest guy, block other creature with reckoner, triggers, That's game.
James said nothing during sideboarding. We laughed about it after I won game 2. He tells me I'm better then him because I'm lucky(partly true). I say I'm good because I don't go on tilt unless I misplay(most of the time). Not a bad finish after being exhausted from 20/30something hours without sleep. Drafting a couple of boxes of modern masters tonight with the homies.

Sorry guys, could only get 3rd. I was told wrong, and I actually had to play junk rites. Game three was so close and involved him top decking a sever when my t-maw had him dead next turn, then top decking a thrag when my hellion had him dead on board. Then he salvaged into thrag thrag rites...... Sigh.

Well, there isn't a lot of strategic depth in the archetype. It's on par with Jund as the least skill intensive decks in the format.

Well, the lgs got some MM in and is selling it at $300 a box. I told a buddy that paying 300 bucks for a box of MM was stupid because there was almost no chance of getting close to your money back unless you open up Bob + Goyf. He proceeded to buy a box anyway and open up Bob + foil Goyf... apparently it's better to be lucky than smart too.

Do you have a current 75 you don't mind sharing?
I'm going to start playing Gruul (forgetting about my hate for Green) and try to get back to my aggro roots. Control is just not proactive enough for me.
I lost to junk rites at FNM this week after T3 Thrag > T4 Thrag > T5 Thrag

With all of the online sellers pricing the "money" commons/uncommons in MM a good 20-50% lower than the original printings, I feel like I should just jump on this opportunity and just drop $300 on shit for Modern. Seems like a good idea to me, as that money will surely appreciate a hell of a lot more as a Path to Exile in my trade binder than $3 in my bank account. Where's the flaw in my logic here? It seems almost too good of an investment.

Apparently not. The Wal Mart here had them on the shelf, I am going back tonight to buy the rest of what they have. First box was pretty good, got a foil Kiki-Jikki, a foil Ravager, and a few Vendillion Clique. No Tarmogoyfs yet, hoping for at least a few in the other boxes.I thought MM was only released to "Specialty stores."I just bought a box of Modern Masters at Wal Mart for MSRP, lol.

So far, everyone I know who's gotten a box of modern master(or just packs) has made money on there pulls. Last night, me and the gang did a MM draft. First picked Kira over Murderous redcap. Got passed foil cloudgoat and redcap. Was sad, took cloudgoat. Ended up going green white and not playing kira
Had 2 tromp the domains though and enough fixing to play one of each basic. Won several games attacking for 50+ trample damage. There's was also plenty of IPA and Jack Daniels so all in all a swell night.
Grats tubehunter. It's a fact that you need to be lucky to win games of magic. I'm better then the other good players at my store because I'm statistically more likely to win coin-flips.
I'll add that while I would consider junk rites the lowest skill deck in the format, it's also the most powerful and has luck sacks built into it, so I
can't hate the deck. That and it won me 3-byes so meh.

My store has tons of product. Friday was funny. Rich kid comes in.
Me: "Leo, getting your two boxes?"
Leo: "I only have like 50 bucks so no"
*Store owner: "You have tons of credit. $356"
Leo: "In that case, I'll sell two JtMS and buy my 2 boxes and some packs. Lets draft."

Sup, dudes. Back from Arkansas and definitely loving being back in Florida. I actually missed this Clan and it was hell not being able to log on and catch up the whole time I was away. I've been nonstop busy too.
Some cool stuff while I was up there: Elton John concert (fucking awesome), Hugh Jackman hosted our 4 hour shareholder meeting/concert, and Tom Cruise casually sauntered out to say some words about Wal-Mart.
I got back the other night and realized I ended up with 14 hours of overtime. Fuck yeah.
More good stuff: I got a promotion that came with 2 raises and then got my yearly eval, which netted me a 3rd raise. I've also had so much sex in the last 24 hours that my dick physically hurts.
I even had a wild hangover-esque night in Arkansas that will probably take me a good amount of time to write, so maybe I'll do that later.
In the meantime, I have to go pleasure my woman once more before cooking some
dinner. Gods help me.....

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

That's....amazing. Congrats, Khaos! Also, good job Tubehunter! Rites is unfair by design and it has a very good aggro matchup and Thragtusk is a hard card to beat, but a skilled player can still win that battle. That's what I like about this season's RDW: it can continue to "put them in check" for a few turns after they destroy your board or build theirs up. However, you just can't beat luck like that. You should probably play 1 more Crucible, though. You'll still almost never have a problem finding enough red with 22 mountains.

Congrats on a kickass conference, Khaos! Work hard, play hard...you should be the poster boy for the phrase, man!
Good job, TH!
@zeman - I'm still smiling about the Mario pic, James...she does indeed seem to be a rare woman. Best to you man!

nAlex, seems like you should start in right now drafting the article about how WotC pulled an end-around and turned everyone on their ear. They stated unequivocally that MM would go to hobby stores only, specifying that big box stores would get absolutely none. Thus, selling to WM would be a direct undercutting of the card shops who market their product. It would be a debacle beyond anything they've done in the history of the game.Apparently not.
Just out of curiosity, I called my old store manager who's now a district (or is it regional?) manager with Wally...tl;dr, there isn't even a barcode for MM in their national database. So, for a WM to have MM, it would have to have been picked up outside of the national supply chain and added as a local item by the UPC office. Not unheard of in that WM sometimes will carry local/regional goods, but as MM doesn't fall in that category, it seems remarkably exceptional for a company that doesn't stand to make any significant profit on the small allotment Wizards claimed
at least for this first release.
So again, it seems like you should be shouting at the top of your lungs all over the web as you've evidently uncovered the story of the decade in the Magic world...
