That guy seems bad. Like really bad.
Also congrats Windstrider!

it makes me want to try to brew something using it and Young Pyromancer, but we'll have to wait to see what auras, sorceries, and instants come with Theros. Right now it almost feels like the best thing to do is drop a Giant Growth on it pre-combat main phase, which seems very bad.
Well, Madcap Skills is still around, but unfortunately unless there's an enchantment that gives First Strike that I'm not thinking of...it might be too narrow.

Dayum, congrats WINstrider. <3
Sorry for being absent (TBH I believe you didn't missed me much). Crashed on new room I'm renting. No "Polish Stories" for you this time - the worst drama I can get is not having washing mashine, but I can get over that.
If you want actually good shitty anime Kaze: Toradora, Sakuraso whatever. Shit's so sweeeeet.
Thoughtseize and Magma Jet in standard are ballin'. Especially with Reanimator loosing their best toy - Unburial Rites.
Thoughtseize is even more amazing for Red players. With both shocklands and Thougtseizes, people will often start with 16 life T1. Godless Shrine into Thoughtseize please!

I wouldn't say it's better for red players. They wouldn't play the card against us if it worked more in our favor than theirs.
Posted: Sun Sep 01, 2013 12:28 am
by Yarpus
It is as we only play spells that deal damage.
Let's say Searing Spear.
I could use 2 mana, 1 card to deal 3 damage.
My opponent is using 1 mana, 1 card to get 2 damage dealt.
RDW by it's philosophy doesn't play fillers. Thoughtseize is great for disrupting controls, picking higher-quality cards and dissolving combos. It doesn't work that well against aggro. Of course it's some kind of disruption. But we really don't care that much about disruption.

Pip got a job offer to work in the UK. Awks.

To clarify, we're not going to break up, it's just a lot of distance.
Posted: Sun Sep 01, 2013 1:54 am
by Yarpus
Well, don't want to break it for you - it's probably going to end sooner or later. And it's better to say goodbye now than waiting till she'll tell you she has new friend while you are furiously pounding your meat every night.
So, at least imo: it's better to spend current time left to make "goodbye" matter as much as possible and have nice memories than going trough all kind of long-distance relationships shit.
But, well... that's just my opinion.

Which card sucks--the red 1-drop, the white enchantment or both?
Yikes on the distance thing...not fun. I'm not at all familiar with travel OCONUS...am I assuming correctly given the distance that that's expensive and difficult travel?

There are new spoilers from PAX.
Oh god Cerberus. 6/6 for 3BR. Can't be blocked except by three or more creatures. Makes cards in GY untargetable. When he dies he gets exiled, but returns all creatures from GY onto battlefield.
This shit is absurd.
And Red got Minotaur lord. 2/3 Trample for 3, gives +1/+1 and Trample. And there's a lot of scry.

Red 1 drop.
Yeah, it'll be expensive. I can afford it, thats not the issue, I'm just a bit needy. The company I work for does have a UK branch though, so maybe I can swing something in a year or thereabouts. We're having a big talk about it this week.

You got it wrong, Yarpus. When he dies, ALL players get all the creatures in their yards back to their hands

Still, all hail the Ragetusk.

I'd rather go for Rakhammer.
[deck]Creatures:
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 1CMC
4 Ash Zealot
4 2-3CMC
4 Exava, the Blood Witch
4 Cerberus
Other Spells:
4 Toughtseize
4 Burn/Dreadbore
4 Burn
Lands:
24 Lands[/deck]

I want as many copies of Underworld Cerberus as I can get my greedy hands on. So much awesome.
I want to cast Ogre Battledriver and then Cerberus for an 8/6 hasty monster that can only be blocked by three or more creatures.
Cerberus and Chandra's +1 also work really well together.
Use Rakdos Charm with Cerberus so you're the only one who gets cards back in hand when it dies.
Also, that new Minotaur Lord that gives +1/+1 and trample to other minotaurs is pretty sweet.

Nice removal for Boros.
Chained to Rocks W
Enchantment Aura
Enchant Mountain you control
When Chained to the Rocks enters the battlefield, exile target creature an opponent controls until Chained to the Rocks leaves the battlefield. (That creature returns under its owner's control.)

I'm stoked! Black is getting some decent support and interesting, flavorful cards. THOUGHTSEIZE!
Read the Bones 2

Sorcery (C)
Scry 2, then draw two cards. You lose 2 life.
Rescue from the Underworld 4

Instant (U)
As an additional cost to cast Rescue from the Underworld, sacrifice a creature.
Choose target creature card in your graveyard. Return that card and the sacrificed card to the battlefield under your control at the beginning of your next upkeep. Exile Rescue from the Underworld.
And that mythic doggie is just crazy; I don't want to guess what he's going to cost, but there is no question of not trying him out.
Mono red with Minotaurs holding the 3-slot...or
Phoenix. Lots of good options there if we get burn and early drop support.
Elspeth is damned scary from a creature deck point of view...she can come in, wipe a midrange deck off the field, then live to spam an army of tokens. Ratchet Bomb will definitely have targets in the new Standard.

good fervor?
Hammer of Purphouros
1RR
Creatures you control get haste
2R tap: sac a land, make a 3/3

The flavor on those black cards is just crazy good. I love Read the Bones for both scry and draw.
Not sure about the Hammer of Purphoros
Legendary Enchantment Artifact
1RR
Creatures you control have haste.
2R, Tap, Sacrifice a land: Put a 3/3 colorless Golem enchantment artifact creature token onto the battlefield.
That seems rather unexciting. With all the other effects that grant haste already, this was what they thought of? Granted, it does help for when a red deck gets land flooded. I would rather it had a slightly higher activation that allowed you to destroy any land.

The hammer is...interesting. Sure it'll help us turn flood into dudes, but i'm not sure the hammer is something we want to drop turn 3. Maybe it'll see play as a 2 of in a midrange/sledge hammer build?

Please, please let us have some sort of decent sweeper in red or black. Thoughtseize and Duress for hand disruption, Read the Bones, UC and Magma Jet for finding answers and drawing them, Doom Blade and Dreadbore along with at least some starting burn...if we can gain life as James suggested, BR control looks very pretty. It's a shame that Dega mana would be unbearably ambitious as white certainly has some lifelink we could draw upon. Of course I'd much rather have life drain...which white also supports. Boy oh boy...choices.

I think it is pretty good. Remember that it hastes the golem token, so you're generating a 3/3 haste every turn your draw a land if you like.

Don't sweat it, we spot all the good red cards before they come out, then buy them while cheap.
You got your playset of Boros Reckoners last year for $5
each, right?
