Redthirst posited that Larry was acting less brainless over on Sally, but I beg to differ...here's his "wisdom" on the hasty, blue-hating hydra:

" This hydra is bad and will not see any play whatsoever. it is well below the curve. If it was a 4/4 for 4 then fine. But a 3/3 for 4? Thats terrible. Not a card which will see ANY play AT ALL. Mark my words.

It isnt even an early pick in limited. It is even worse than Vastwood hydra which seems no play in constructed obviously and even goes fairly deep in limited as nobody picks it because it is trash"

You just don't understand how subtly Larry is improving his posting now.

I said his posts were less garbage and, for the first time ever, he has proven me wrong.

Z, could you find room in your landbase for Mutavault in that Trading Post deck? It seems the man-land would be good in a control matchup.

And neither do I.

In other news, RDW is cheap as hell. I just pre-ordered what I'd probably need for the deck:
4 Hammer
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Satyr
4 Strike
4 Fanatic

For less than $30... and a full half of that was for the lands that I may not even need.

Ok Redbros, need a little help.

I'm going to a $5k tomorrow and still haven't decided what to run. Unfortunately I haven't played very much since M14 came out because Law School has kept me so busy. But I have all the cards I need from M14 to make things.

I'm comfortable with the following decks, and have the cards I'd need for them:
B/G Midrange
Dos Rakis
AIR
KDW
G/R Dragonmaster
Gruul Burning Tree aggro

In the Boston area at a large event you can pretty much expect to run across every archetype, but it's usually very net-decked and leans control. I'm expecting a lot of:
U/W/x
Jund
G/R Dragonmaster

With a smattering of B/G Midrange, Aristocrats, and Hexproof.

I don't want to play B/G Midrange or G/R Dragonmaster mirrors. I feel like mulligans aside, those simply come down to the die rolls. I think I'm leaning toward something like this:

[deck]
Land (25)
4x Blood Crypt
4x
Dragonskull Summit
10x Mountain
3x Mutavault
2x Rakdos Guildgate
2x Swamp

Instant (6)
2x Doom Blade
4x Searing Spear

Planeswalker (3)
3x Chandra, Pyromaster

Creature (17)
4x Ash Zealot
4x Chandra's Phoenix
2x Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
4x Falkenrath Aristocrat
3x Thundermaw Hellkite

Sorcery (9)
3x Bonfire of the Damned
1x Dreadbore
3x Pillar of Flame
2x Rakdos's Return

Sideboard (15)
3x Tribute to Hunger
3x Boros Reckoner
1x Doom Blade
3x Olivia Voldaren
1x Rakdos's Return
2x Dreadbore
2x Sire Of Insanity
[/deck]

I can burn out aggro and hopefully keep a handle on G/R Dragonmaster with all the removal. And with all the haste I really don't have a dead top-deck against a control opponent. I wouldn't expect much of a mirror to this, except maybe in the form of B/R Zombies or a true Dos Rakis build.

Thoughts?

The Hammer I picked up as soon as it was spoiled - got 4 for $6.00 shipped.
The Temple I waited a few days for initial prices to drop since everyone thought they were shit - got 4 for $15.00
The Satyr I just picked up for like $5.00.
Fanatics were $2.00 a playset and Strike was $1.00.

Well, it is the deck I'm most familiar with, and the one I've had the most success with. Just stick to my guns and run it I guess. Maybe I was trying to be too cute and "attack the meta" with the above list.

Thanks!

It has basically everything a deck could want right now; a board wipe for aggro, Scavenging Ooze for flash, Thragtusk for everything in between, and Desecration Demon for winning.

Some one asked earlier why rdws vs midrange red, #1 I'm more familer with rdws then red midrange. So I'm more comfortable with that style of deck and have more confidence in my abilities to play rdws ins unknown format. #2 card selection, to be honest picking the right mix for big red is more difficult then picking the right mix for rdws, for big red I have to play the right cards for the right deck. In a undefined meta this is more difficult to do. #3 price, I am on a budget. I hate using that as excuse but its true. Rdws is easier and cheaper to build then big red. #4 consistency, the rdws will be more consistent at a event like states, which is what I am gunning for. Its going to punish the untuned decks many people bring to states or even the tuned ones who don't draw that piece of removal or miss a land drop.

Those 4 reasons combine to make my deck choice.

On Painted Stone:
"Looking at the deck, you can see there really isn't anything it can do against Sneak and Show."

No. Just no. Looking at the deck, you see that there are 6 turn 0/1 counters for sneak & show. Plus turn 1 Blood Moon is a thing; if you get that before they crack a fetch and they don't have an Island, that's pretty much game.

It's possible what I posted earlier is just a powered-down version of Jund since it's missing Farseek, Huntmaster, and Thragtusk. I suppose the intention was to make something people wouldn't see coming, could handle Aggro and Dragonmaster, and could punish control.

Redthirst - thanks for the Dos Rakis list and SB plan. I ran that exact (well, 1 Mortars in side was a Tribute to Hunger, but rest was same) list and SB plan at an event a few months ago and did fairly well. I think the issue with a true Dos Rakis build right now, though, is that game 1 it's just a very tough matchup against Dragonmaster or big Naya. They ramp into the same fatty you're playing and punish you with it more quickly. Games 2 and 3 you can deal with it since you're siding into a more controlling strategy, but you're still on the back foot the whole time.
