Oh my. Where did all the new toys come from?

Minotaur Skullcleaver 2R
Haste
When Minotaur Skullcleaver enters the battlefield, it gains +2/+0.
2/2

That's gonna be tasty especially with the other minotaur lords. Minotaur Tribal?

The R/W Crusader is oh, so nice.

Legion's Initiative with Anax and Cymede, the Skullcleaver and the Viashino Firstblade plus a cantrip to activate Heroic on Anax?

Oh yeah.

Edit: Good lord. Even budget decks are going to be quite powerful. This is their idea of slowing a format down?

The RW Hoplite is sick. I'm really tempted to go RW aggro now.

And damn, RU looks so good too. So many choices!

Absolutely, both in Constructed and Limited. I can't believe we're going to have to choose between cards because of our depth of playables after rotation.

Oh sure, most of the cards will end up being bad, but it's exciting to think about new interactions.

I think the control decks are going to be fucking terrible. No 1 or 2 mana draw/filter? Yup, they're going to be terrible.

Aggro or aggro-midrange or midrange-control looks good. I don't think there are the cards for tempo, as there's not really a 1 or 2 mana threat you can just resolve and rude to victory behind counters/removal.

So I want to explore the heavily front ended aggro decks (12x 1 drop AIR) or the more midrangey Chandra versions. Heroes Downfall is very good, but if they're behind on board, a three mana terror is bad; so it's not all upside.

There's very little life gain in the format. So getting damage in them burning them out seems realistic.

Then there are just UR Pyromancer brews. The 1 mana heroic spells are very good with Pyro + Triton Treature Hunter; that's the start of a good engine;
add Electromancer and Teleportal and things might get real? I don't have much faith in Master of the Waves; the deck also lacks any real CA engines which is awkward in a format with two highly playable wraths, because you won't recover enough and Supreme Verdict can't be countered. So maybe this idea sucks.

Heroic Boros is the last thing I want to look at, and it's going to have a token sub-theme obviously. Martial Glory is very good against green decks and red decks.

Exciting stuff.

Most interesting cards for me right now are:
- triton tactics; and
- coordinated assault

Those are some powerful cards for 1 mana and very powerful with Heroic.

UR keeps calling me, even though the mana is terrible and there aren't any cheap cantrips. UR good stuff?
- teleportal
- young pyro
- electromancer
- frostburn weird
- treasure hunter triton maybe?

Red has a lot more good cards than blue, but maybe you can use Thassa + Bident to get an engine going?

Drawing cards is really hard now.

Alternatively, Nivix Cyclops + Thassa can do some work, add Frostburn Weird and Tidebinder and you getting somewhere maybe..

This set ROCKS.

This week I'll finally complete my sets of Sacred Foundries and Chandras.
Just in time to see the rotation strike with all its might.

I'm actually really puzzled, I don't really know what to play, I even imagined trying out White Weenie just for the sake of playing 1 CMC 2/1s with no drawbacks.

So the Black artifact/enchantment is REALLY GOOD.

Will likely be included in some new reanimator deck and just midrange decks across the board.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I was thinking about going RB Midrange because fuck Scrylands. Exava/Cerberus as creatures, burn and removal, disruption. Well, deck would be actually pretty cheap as long as I'll not think about playing Toughtseizes. The only thing I'm really afraid of is fact that Cerberus fits Sledgehammer more than the 8-creature control/midrange build as when the only card I can return from GY is Exava (Legendary!) it sucks. While I might allow Aggro to rebuild their field.
I guess as the starter for Modo, I'll just play Mono Red aggro.

[deck]Creatures:
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
2 Legion Loyalist
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Gore-House Chainwalker
2 Firefist Striker
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Fanatic of Mogis

Other Spells:
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Hammer of Purphoros

Lands:
2 Mutavault
20 Mountain

Sideboard:
4 Mizzium Mortars
4 Peak Eruption
4 Flames of the Firebrand
2 Act of Treason
1 Legion
Loyalist[/deck]

Deck will cost me around 20 bucks. And I'm open to deciding what I'll splash based on meta. RG builds are still sexy for me.
I'm budget as fuck at the moment. Don't get surprised when I'll ask you about lending me 2 Mutavaults. In exchange, I'll not be surprised by you responding with "go away, you fucken' polish beggar!".

Although it wasn't As easy as the first game, we managed to collect our 2nd win last night. It was a struggle, as we had 4 touchdowns called back due to a horrendous reffing crew. We had a over a hundred yards in penaltys. Nevertheless, we wore them down and eventually blew the game open for a final score of 40-2 (yes they got a safety on a bad snap from our center on the 5 yard line beacause of you guessed it, a block in the back on our punt return). We have a lot of things to work on, we play the number 3 team in the state next week, so I'm pretty pumped.

Got my playset of Fanatic of Mogis. Hooray for cheap cards.
And I splurged on a fourth Chandra. Bad on me for spending what I don't really have.

This set looks fun.

The Fanatic has been doing WORK for me on the Trice. ETB he's doing atleast 6 typically. At that point, I don't even care if he swings, it's just fun to nail the opponent for 6 like that.

I feel like red aggro at 22-23 land will be most optimal. Fanatic of Mogis seems to be the build around if staying mono. I suppose a 25 land build could be good. Something like:

4 firedrinker satyr
4 ash zealot
4 chandra's phoenix
4 fanatic of mogis
4 stormbreath dragon

4 lightning strike
4 magma jet
3 mizzium mortars
1 hammer of purphoros
3 chandra, pyromaster

21 mountain
4 mutavault

Drop Fanatic. You're going big. Your board state pre-4 is shit. You have 13 cards to play pre-Fanatic. If you want to play Fanatic to it's fullest - just go for full aggro.

I think f you want to do a Fanatic build, you want something like 30 creatures.

I just can't wait until I play a game and go:
Turn 1 - Satyr/Cackler
Turn 2 - Ash Zealot - swing 4
Turn 3 - Hammer - swing 4
Turn 4 - BTE, BTE, Fanatic - take 10, swing 12

That feels like it should be the deck game two, after transitioning to a more midrange build.

4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Ash Zealot
4 Frostburn Weird or Burning-tree Emissary
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Fanatic of Mogis

4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
1 Hammer of Purphoros

21 Mountain
2 Mutavault

Sideboard
4 Mizzium Mortars
4 Stormbreath Dragon
3 Chandra, Pyromaster
1 Hammer of Purphoros
2 Anger of the Gods
1 Mutavault

Playing against Photo the other night reminded me of the importance of early attacks so early beats with a high devotion count for Fanatic. The Weird could be Rakdos-Shred Freak for the same devotion count, but the Weird survives more and can hit harder later. Transitions to midrange.

Edit: Or take out Weird for BTE, which I somehow neglected. That would be better since it plays nicely with Lightning Strike and Magma Jet to clear away early stuff.

Z I think Control just has to rethink how they build their decks. More tapout Frostburn style with Thassa-mcbroken, Jace mcstall, etc.

And midrange needs to realize without thragtusk lifegain they have to do things pretty differently.

I think before they (and by they I mean the pros place and male lists) realize this we need to get our 12x 1-drop lists out of the way before we shift to fine-tuning Chandra midrange by being 1-step ahead of the meta.

[deck]Creatures (14):
4 Hexproof Plant
3 Scavenging Ooze
2 Polukranos
2 Reaper of the Wilds
1 Desecration Demon
2 Undewrold Cerberus

Artifacts(3):
1 Rakdos Keyrune
1 Whip of Erebrous
1 Bow of Nyela

Removal(7)
2 Dreadbore
1 Hero's Demise
1 Putrefy
2 Abrupt Deacy
1 Magma Jet

Disruption(6)
4 Thoughtseize
2 Rakdos's Return

Walkers(2)
2 Xenagos, The Revealer

Draw(2)
2 Read the Bones

Terrabase(25)
4 Stomping Ground
4 Blood Crypt
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Temple of Abandon
2 Rakdos Guildgate
2 Gruul Guildgate
1 Swamp
2 Forest
2 Mountain[/deck]

Manabase was just thrown together. Biggest weakness is not knowing what threats are good in open field(aforementioned weakness of midrange) and thus the deck should probably just be
playing something like 4 desecration demon and 4 Hasty dragons since they can just close games the fastest, but I like hedging and testing different things. The control matchup would probably be interesting. The 6 discard spells make it easy to plan around what the control deck is doing and the combination of cards like whip, Xenagos, and and keyrune give you resilent threats, but it's not like before where you could get there by just resolving one creature that they sort of had to answer and/or couldn't answer profitably.

The agro matchup is either great or horrifically bad depending on draws. Ooze, whip, plant, and 1-for-1's go a long way towards running agro decks out of gas till you drop fatties and start gaining life incrementally, but then again, DAT MANABASE. Still, boarding in 4 anger the gods is a thing I suppose.

Worst card in the deck is likely read the bones but I felt there was a need for something that provides actual card advantage besides janky aritfacts. I do like how the bow does
lots of things though and is good vs. everything but control(cause Ashiok doesn't mill).
I like the ideas of this list. That gorgon looks solid I completely overlooked her for constructed... 4/5s are where its at.

Scavenging ooze+Underworld Cerberus is pretty sick synergy btw,

The weakest part of the list IMO is Xenagos over Chandra doesnt seem right (she takes care of /xs you dont want to spend a card on and has 5 friggin loyalty. Did I mention her 0 yet?)

Also I'm definitely not a fan of the Bow. The Whip is nice for much needed lifegain (but also bad synergy with hound and scavenging ooze).

I'dd say -1 Bow, -2 Hounds

+3 Desecration Demon

He is literally too unfair not to play. Only builds I could see bringing you trouble are competent red mages with Young Pyromancer ;D
