Modern looks really boring
Lol no.

RedN: I'm glad to hear your father's ok. Sorry for your troubles, redbro.
@ Modern: It seems like a REALLY fun format. Unfortunately there aren't many modern events in my area, but I'm slowly collecting staples for it. Thoughtseize in Theros will help tremendously.
Congrats on promotions!

Modern looks really boring
Because Standard isn't just the same decks getting played in a rotation, right?

I can attest to the fact that Modern is most certainly not boring, and that's only after playing in two Modern FNM events. I've had a blast each time.

Why play modern over legacy? Just curious. Legacy appears to have a much more diverse meta.

I always find it amusing when people praise this years' standard, trumpeting about the fact that it had "so much diversity," but then with their following breath will say how bad Modern is because "it's just the same decks winning every tournament."
Standard Jund won literally 90% of the tournaments for like two straight months in Standard. If we compare that to the win rate of Modern Jund (a better deck overall,) you'll notice that it barely ever actually wins tournaments anymore, but rather it has consistent showings in the top 8. That's very different from "this no-skill topdeck pile wins every single tournament." Hell, RU faeries won the 1k here last weekend. RED. BLUE. FAERIES. A ROGUE DECK. When was the last time a rogue deck won something in Standard? The Aristocrats...?
Having consistent decks doesn't make for a bad format. That's absolutely retarded. You want there to
be some kind of structure, because if there weren't, what would you base your sideboarding build and plan on? How would you know what to play around? At what point does structure actually make the game easier for you?
Legacy doesn't have a diverse meta at all. Stoneforge decks are pretty dominant, with Sneak/Show being pretty close to them. After that comes literally everything else.

Modern is a pretty cool format. My personal favorite. Lots of people hate it with a passion for one reason or another, but meh.
It's great, though. Very few auto-pilot lol decks around(Eggs was the last one I remember;) it's generally fast and interesting; and it requires players, in most cases, to actually be good at piloting their deck.

I'd say Legacy and Modern are pretty similar in terms of diversity. Legacy obviously has more diversity by virtue of having access to a greater pool of cards as well as a reduced ban list, but on the whole I'd say the two formats share an equal amount of health. Modern has the upside of being much less expensive to get in to, and it's also a lot less intimidating for newer players since Legacy has so many interactions you need to be aware of. It's also a natural progression for newer players that started in Standard since so many of their cards are "playable" in a Modern meta. Hell, more than half of my RG deck I top 8d with two weeks ago contained Standard-legal cards.

Get your Chandra's now boys. Thunder Thighs is movin' on up.
Should have grabbed my playset last week while they were $10. Now she's $13 and climbing.

Didn't get a playset, but I have 2 for MTGO.
I wonder, does RDW really need any more than 2?

Speaking of good buys, anyone who hasn't picked up their Hammers yet should probably get some on eBay - they can be had for under $4.00/playset shipped.

Got the last Chandra I needed for my playset from eBay for 13. Considering a friend all but gave me two, I feel I'm ok with spending that.

I'm going to repost this every couple pages, without spoiler tags, just for that reason.
I'm joking, by the way. I scrolled past that at
work right before my boss walked by.

$4 for a playset? Sweet nectar that's a good price.

Got mah Chandras last week, though I only ordered 3. Gonna pick up that last one. Thanks for the notice guys.
EDIT: WTF already up to $15? Holy moly.

Eh fair point...cost is a big issue in Legacy. The good thing is that a lot of your stuff is on the reserved list, so you don't have to worry about your cards losing value. You can also move from deck to deck without much loss. Is either more skill-intensive?

Based on my observations I'd say Legacy is more skill-intensive because it's a less forgiving format.

Just bought 3x Thunder Thighs for $45. Ouch. But I bet she gets to be over $20 within the next two weeks and maybe $25 a few weeks after rotation so I'm fine with it. Just wish I would have gobbled her up at $10 like I said I was going to.
Thank goodness I already have my 3 on MODO. She's already at $15 there too!

Yech that sucks. At least you got her now and not in two weeks. I just ordered my Hammers, Angers, and Temples. A pair of Nykthos as well, though that may have been a bad decision. Got the two of them for $13, but I feel like it will go down.

I cracked a Chandra in my M14 pre-release pool, then cracked another in my M14 pre-release prize packs (different pre-release, same shop). Then bought a 3rd for $12 including shipping a few weeks ago. Should get a 4th...

You mispelled Cerberus and Midrange.
Also, here goes my dream of playing Big Red. Damn, I'm cheap as fuck. I'll probably stick to RDW now - and if I'd ever won something, I'll slowly start collecting Chandras and other power-level cards. Stormbreath Dragon, why u so expensive?!

I'm going to try my best to trade for a fourth because the decks I'm brewing don't use four of her anyway, and I'm confident I can at least find SOMEONE in this hick town that has one for trade.
As for other stuff, I have store credit saved up that I'm going to try to use on the cards I need. I really only need two Hammer and I'm confident I can get those on the cheap between the prerelease and release dates. Magma Jets are highly sought after though so I may go ahead and bite the bullet on those unless the LGS owner agrees to hold four for me.

Seriously, yarpus has taken some kind of Disney Channel teen actress life trajectory since joining the clan.
He used to be so nice and wholesome, but now he's making sex tapes featuring him snorting coke from Hannah Montana's unmentionables while flipping off the camera.
