My goal is 35 QPs this week. That's a good week.

@ 32. Can I get there tonight?

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:00 pm
by Kaitscralt
surely. I'm at work, won't be able to play until later.

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:01 pm
by Kaitscralt
so you're going to get 45 and play in 3 preliminaries instead of the finals?

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:09 pm
by zemanjaski
Yeah. I have two friends who are going to sit with me and play, I want to go big this MOCs. We're brewing a tricked out burn deck that attacks the big three expected decks (zoo, pod, twin) but if we cannot get that together we'll play Storm (they're both storm players).

I was thinking of making a brew as well.

You need to prepare for a lot of UWR online

I think that'll be a good matchup for me, I have a lot of experience in burn vs counterspell decks.

Not with 4 Lightning Helix

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 2:19 pm
by Kaitscralt
But that's okay, whatever I play is going to be horrible if I don't build one of the tier one decks

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 2:22 pm

Helix isn't all that bad when fighting control. They don't tend to put enough pressure on you early on so you can draw a few more spells. Besides, we have Skullcrack and Flames of the Blood Hand.

Well, when you finish brewing you should post a list. I'm still not sure what I would play if I ever get there. Considering how hard it has been for me to get qps this season I might just save money and play in the PTQ prelims instead

Will do. I have a GPT on the 22nd, so all my brewing will be after that.

1-0 in the DE. Opponent got to sacrifice 2 Desecration Demons with Devour Flesh, but it was not enough to save him.

Well so far my notepad has 4x Spellstutter Sprite and nothing else, so you might want to swim on big tuna, head to open waters

When is the first mtgo PTQ? I have a MOCS this weekend (The 15th) iirc

Not sure. If someone knows the date and format, do tell.

I rely on mDu for all mtgo scheduling

Also Kait, I would be SUPER appreciative if we could do some more testing plus discussion. Maybe with Skype? I expect the GPT to be FLOODED with UWx and would love to prepare for them.

I have horrible (or genius) idea.

What about Tempo / Zoo deck based on creatures:

Delver of Secrets
Wild Nacatl
Snapcaster Mage
Tarmogoyf
possible distruptive 3 if needed (clique?)

For spells run bolts, helix, tribal flames (already in 4 colors but might not be needed), remands, spell pierces and spell snares?

I'm excited to see what you come up with for Modern! Well done on R1, hope you're recording again :)

Out of my first 8 man R1. 1-2 in the semi-mirror - G1 he draws more burn. G2 I draw more land so I can cast more burn. G3 I mull a 7 card, 1 Vault hand into a 6 card 1 Vault into a 5 card no land into a decent 4 card (BO, Jet, Temple, GG). I make a fight of it but can't recover; largely as I can't draw a Mountain for my Chains for his Phoenix or Reckoner. I put this down to
variance as I don't think any of the hands were keeps. Can I ask if this is accurate please? It seems to happen a lot (I'd say 1 in every 3 or 4 games) and I have to be certain that I'm not ascribing poor play in the form of incorrect mulligan decisions to variance.

Pfft. I posted a link to the schedule like two pages ago.

The first PTQ is this Sunday and the format is sealed. The prelims run Wednesday-Saturday.

I have been working on such a deck but am having issues. The mana base is fragile and it just doesn't seem powerful enough to fight opposing strategies. I can provide an experimental list if we want to look into it further but it is pretty rough.

2-0 in the DE, beating RW Devotion. New sideboard really did its things with Spark Trooper and Blind Obedience crushing him in games 2 and 3.

Not recording, I have submitted videos for the next two weeks. Need to write another article though.

Won R1 2-1 Vs RDW in the second 8 man of the day. G1 he runs me over. G2 Blind Obedience wins me the game. G3 he stall on 2 land and folds when Sparky puts him to 6 with me still on 20 with Blind Obedience in play :)

I wonder if there is a white based devotion control deck possible using blind obedience type control enchantments and heliod (?) as a finisher...ephara fits I guess too. I hate when I get deck ideas at work. It usually means I will have an unproductive day

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:37 pm

Its closer to a deck than many realize. The problem is that Heliod kinda sucks and spending 4 mana to make a 2/1 isn't a strong play. The rest of the deck is decent:
- Soldier of the Pantheon
- Precinct Captain
- Lion King
- Spear of Heliod
- Azorius Charm
- Ephara
- Detention Sphere

That's a really strong core of a deck right there. Might even be able to run Sphinx's Revelation.
