Karsten v. Patrick Chapin now. Karsten is playing a strange Gruul deck. Patrick Chapin is playing with legal magic cards, and thus winning because he is Patrick Chapin. (playing some BW deck)

No, Standard. That makes it even more hilarious.
Wat
It's just a very aggressive UB deck that has a bunch of 1drops and Master of Babes.

That mono blue deck Team SCG is playing looks pretty cool.

We gotta get this Oscar Jones dude over here. He seems like a redbro through and through, and he's kind of intellectually bitchslapping Zac Hill, so that's a plus.

Epic extending hands, if I'd say myself.

Nice burn, brah.

Why did you play your Hammer on turn 3? You weren't at a point where you want to be sacrificing lands yet, and you hadn't seen Chandra. Making a dude and then drawing her on 3 land would be the feel-bad moment of the match.

Yeah, David Caplan seems to be on AIR with BTE, firefist striker, foundry street denezin and goblin shortcutter.

Is this your brew with the Canadians Zem? Doesn't seem like you at all

Has there been any maze's end at the pro tour?

Posted: Fri Oct 11, 2013 8:59 pm
by TubeHunter
Of course there isn't , maze's end is universally recognized as too mainstream for the viewing audience.

yeah I reluctantly like oscar jones deck. id cut the dragons for.skarrg.guildmage to evolve ex1 earlier and shave a polyk and the mortars for 2 deadbridge and the final boon satyr, just for lower curve and better synergies

That kind of cocks up your matchup against Esper though, which is a respectable amount of the forecasted field.

Damn it Alex, now I want to make a mutavault sliver deck that can send flying first striking lands at people for the shits and the giggles. BecauseFuckYouThatsWhy.dek

God damn it I can't stop giggling imagine a flying hunk of animated land hurtling through the air smashing the crap outta things

ANNNNNNND just realized mutavault is a 3/3 in Master of Babes decks. . .

Anyone know whos playing what decks in this list?
http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/a ... s13/stand8

That list will show whats winning out in a meta that looks like this:

? is stormbreath even that good against esper? Far/away doomblades and what not... Also trying to resolve a 5 cmc spell is never the game I want to be on

Skarrg guildmage has been stompin every control player I come up against. And he's actually a faster clock than stormbreath-premonstrous

plus Id be cutting the MB mortars for hammer and shit, so bring it esper

Any of you into spec fiction? I just started Dave Eggers' newest, The Circle. The titular company is Google, and so far it's the most realistic pan-opticon scenario that I've ever seen. Eggers understands that surveillance will never be blatantly Facist like so many Orwellian nightmares; it'll be crowd-sourced.

That sounds like a sweet read Nuwen, I'll have to check it out. Currently rereading the Dune books.

Jaklovsky is playing Rakdos Control, Black & Finkel are both playing Blue Devotion (I think), David Caplan is playing AIR, Paul Reitzl is Orzhov Midrange.

I can appreciate not wanting to play 5cmc spells, but that's the kind of game you want to play against
Esper. You want to repeatedly slam things that require answers. So they remove your Stormbreath Dragon, but what have they done about the fleet of other nerds on board? There's only 4 Doom Blades, and probably only 2 Far // Away. Eventually they have to do something about the rest of the board, and that's not really something the deck is amazing at. Skaarg Guildmage wears such a huge target that I find it very unlikely that you'll ever get to activate him. Slamming Stormbreath Dragons repeatedly will actually win you the game outright eventually, Skarrg has a really long wind-up in those situations and it may not even necessarily win it for you.

I do like Deadbridge Goliath quite a bit more than Polukranos if for no other reason than infinite synergy with Experiment One.

Apparently team CFB is playing Big Devotion red, Purphoros, god of the forge, and they love there deck.

Their deck was a fairly resounding success. On the opposite end of that spectrum, devotion blue was SCG's deck and it was also surprisingly good.

not everyone respects the power of the guildmage

ironically people are like "well I dont want to doomblade THAT guy, hes got fuckin dragons coming!" and take 6. Before they know it they're dead or tapping out to verdict guildmage and a dork, and then chandra or boon satyr or w/e else comes in and finishes them off.

Once you go thundermaw, you cant really respect a guy like stormbreath whos saving grace is "protection"

Since when the fuck did my dragons need protection from anything? Theyre supposed to be killing the shit out of people

if this is wizards way of making a "nerfed" thunder maw that "always gets in vs. angels n stuff" instead of tapping it down then meh, you can have it.

deadbridge with ex 1 is the nuts. Also you gotta smile when they d-sphere deadbridge and you slam a chandra or xenagos.
I'll have more experience with this specific build tonight, but I didn'
t miss stormbreath even in my "baddie" gruul build with BTEs and no tuskers or experiment ones for better early pressure

I was quite pleased that devotion has proven itself to be a mechanic worthy of the pro-tour.

Be pretty interested in seeing the exact brew of the red devotion list, cause I still have a hard time seeing it be more solid than Z's RDW...

The real question is: how is Dega doing?

I don't even care, it's time to anoint it the best deck in the format. Purge da Profane for lyf yo!

MonoU Devotion seems worse than UB honestly. Mono U can't beat Supreme Verdict; UB can.

4 Ash Zealot
2 Purphoros, God of the Forge
4 Ember Swallower
4 Domri Rade
2 Xenagos, the Reveler
4 Stormbreath Dragon
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Firefist Striker
4 Temple of Abandon
4 Stomping Ground
3 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
13 Mountain
4 Mizzium Mortars

Spitballing what the list looks like.

cards I'm unsure about: Firefist Striker, Numbers on everything. I know everything else is in the deck though, just not sure on main and side. I did win a test game by going off with double nykthos and having monstrous stormbreath dragon fight my own boros reckoner. Cause swag. Also wouldn't be surprised if they where playing more Purphoros. The neat thing about this deck is how BTE fixes for your walkers.
