Thinking about pimping out my deck, but we have some cards going for 10+ (even 30+) which I'm 2nd guessing.

I can Justify Mutavault because I'll most likely put it in my RU Delver List in modern, Sacred Foundry is another Modern Staple I'm ok with - but the two cards which I'm unsure of are Boros Reckoner and Chandra, Pyromaster.

Do you think those two cards have staying power outside standard?
In addition to legacy painter servant, Modern Jund decks with Chandra are strictly better then Jund decks without her and that deck will probably be a cornerstone of modern forever so there's that.

@photodyer - Mutavault is in high demand (Devo Red, Blue, Black and everything else want it) currently, so I don't suppose it will drop any soon.

Not too sure about Chandra, but I don't think Red Bull cuts it for anything other than standard.

Play a Chandra in the Jund mirror and your opponent will have all the sads. Dark confidant has 1 toughness you say? Your tarmogoyf no longer blocks my tarmogoyf in a race? Or better yet, it blocks, then I mainphase 2 my Chandra killing it?

Also, what LP said. In Modern and Legacy Chandra either +1 draws a card, or +0 draws a card. Card is at its weakest in standard and it is still one of the best cards in the format, arguably the best.

Chandra's arguably the third best walker of all time behing JtMS and LotV. Only real competition is Elspeth, Knight Errant or if you're a Faeries 4lyfe type of cat little Jace.

That's good company, for sure. I'd put her at 3rd; I think she's better than Elspeth in Modern/Legacy and those are formats that hold value.

Agree. Plus on an empty board, Chandra EMBARASSES Elspeth.

I'm not sure if she's a good investmemt, though. Like shocks, her value will not rise much after she rotates because Standard is the format in which she will see the most play. She's good, but she's not incredibly popular outside of Standard. Unless some retailer pulls some strings and causes her value to inflate, she'll only drop after rotation.

^ her value will go down when she rotates from standard, then start to climb as availability dwindles. See all other modern / legacy staples of her kind.

There's also a fairly good chance she'll be reprinted in M15, every core set 'walker so far has had at least 2 years.

@ windstrider (land and deck theme)

Yes. Absolutely. You'd be surprised at some of the lands I favor for certain decks. And since my OCD reigns supreme in Magic, all my cards and lands MUST have the same art or else the 'Verse will implode on itself.
Good. I felt weird for doing that as well, and then said screw it. I love running mono-red with nothing but the full-art Zen Mountains. Looks so good in the black card sleeves.
Sorry, kinda late to the basic land and mountain loving party. Here's my story.

I have 20-24 ZEN full art lands of each color. All my 60-
card constructed decks use them. And once I knew the Veronique Mountains and Swamps were my favorite, all the other color arts had to be Veronique Meignaud also. I couldn't mix and match artists.

If I'm just playing around with a kitchen-table 60-card brew I'll use my vast collection of Revised basic lands. I like being able to tell without really looking what's a land and what's a spell, so full-arts or white borders help the most.

I don't generally care about the basic lands in EDH, but I do have a mono red Krenko EDH deck that's a bit different. The theme of the deck is big mana, lots of goblins, and then cast a couple dragons that have the Devour keyword (those with haste also). It's not an amazing deck but it wrecks face in really casual groups. The only mountains I'll use for this deck are the core set mountains that look like a bunch of little goblins on a mountain peak with dragons flying toward them. Because flavor. Here's the one: http://magiccards.info/m13/en/244.html

I think it would be amazeballs if a good number of FoSers took a long weekend, rented a bunch of rooms at a hotel, and played EDH the whole time. With coke. And prostitutes. And Veronique Meignaud.

Sure. I mean, most of that's an average weekend anyway, but if y'all want to come hang out and play EDH too then I guess that's cool.

I'd have aimed the second Flames at his face to bring him to 4 and then double Shocked him for lethal.

Yeah lol I re-read that and I realized I had mis-remembered. I only had 1 shock in hand, only shocked 1 elemental token. He had only swung with 21, so shocking a token put the damage pre-Frostburn pump to 19.

Raspy, you edited your post to say you had Mountain Mutavault untapped. Did you have 2 Mountains Mutavault? We can't mock your plays correctly if they're not accurately described.

I know :(

I'm not explaining it correctly. I'm forgetting the exact details. But looking at notes, here's what I can say for sure:

I had Mutavault and 1 mountain open during his attack.

He swung for 21 pre-Frostburn pump.

I shocked an elemntal token instead of activating Mutavault to block Master.

So I guess ignore my block of text and focus on those facts :-p

Activating Muta to block and Shocking a token prevent the exact same amount of damage so it doesn't matter which one you do.

Right, but he had 2 open mana. I thought he'd see the make Master unblockable play before he saw pump Frostburn. Turns out he saw both, but the judge asked why I didn't do the former.

I don't usually watch the adult swim stuff anymore. Not since around 2005. But I caught like 5 mins of one of the shows the other night. It was some weird show with claymation type of animation and very quick segments strung together back to back. One of them was Calvin going crazy because he's the only one who sees Hobbs, and Hobbs tells him to kill
people. Was creepy.

I'm just saying that - best case - you prevent the exact same amount of damage and still die so there's no point. Unless your opponent fucks up in that scenario it doesn't matter what you do.

Definitely. But I'm in the Reid Duke make your opponent play correctly and play it out camp, so I didn't scoop. Was just asking which you'd have done. I chose to shock the elemental, thinking that my opponent would see the make Master unblockable play well before he saw the pump frostburn play. Because he had just made a bunch of stuff unblockable.

The guy took a bit to think about it after I shocked the token. And when the judge asked me about my play after the round was over, the master of waves player quickly said that he had 2 mana up to make Master unblockable if I did that.

Re: Goblin Wardriver. I've tried him in Modern but he's just too slow for what he does. If you can reliably deal damage every turn you want Berserker hands down.

You know that feeling when you lost a match, drew the next card to find that being the card that could win you the game? I think I will stop doing that to hurt my own feelings.

Love the Robot Chicken Star Wars stuff. Best one was where Vader kept altering the deal whenever Lando kept saying the deal was getting worse all the time. Vader made Lando wear a tutu and ride a unicycle.

Also, the Ponda Baba skit was fucking hilarious.
