Blargle, nobody wanted to buy the commander sets at fnm. Put the naya and jund up on ebay, and got a friend who wants to buy the grixis at $50, so I'll do that for him, cut him some slack
Oh, and went 4-1 at fnm, pulled a MoW out of the prize packs, and promptly sold it back to the store for a profit on the night.
Sold it then partly cause I see the value dropping a bit soon, and partly cause I don't want to own that... thing...

I, for one, would like to welcome our new firebreathing narwhal overlords.

Funny discussion gents. Elspeth is down to about $20 here last time I checked. Sell! Sell!
???
Not sure where you're finding that number, JS...the lowest BIN on ebay is $27 and MTGGoldfish has her at $31 in paper and $15.58 in MTGO.

Let's be honest, brother...I hate being awake at this hour for ANY reason that doesn't involve multiple nubile beauties and a gallon of high-quality massage oil.Bleargh. I dislike being awake this early for no good reason.
Good luck today, LP.

And yes you can chalk that last up to the delirium inherent in getting up at utterly stupid hours of a Saturday morning to cart a child off for another school-sanctioned event!

Figures...I just dropped ~$25 each for a pair for my BW deck. Of
course, someone could break out with a build this weekend and send her careening into the stratosphere again, so I'll just suck it up and be glad I didn't have to pay $30.

I'm playing in a GPT tomorrow. Esper and Mono-Black are really overrepresented here. I think I want to play this:
[deck]Creatures (28)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Fanatic of Mogis
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Rakdos Shred-Freak
Spells (11)
3 Chained to the Rocks
4 Lightning Strike
3 Boros Charm
1 Hammer of Purphoros
Land (21)
11 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
2 Mutavault
Sideboard (15)
2 Burning Earth
1 Chained to the Rocks
2 Chandra Pyromaster
1 Hammer of Purphoros
2 Last Breath
4 Mizzium Mortars
3 Skullcrack[/deck]
Thoughts / suggestions?

Ya know, tell me about it. I go to a lot of different stores and I swear if someone is somewhat invested in this game they play control. There might be a midrange player or two, but it seems like at least 50% of the field is playing control even if it's shakey and there's better stuff to be played. It could just be a local thing, but players here do love their fucking control decks... so I don't know...
I'm still a bit of aI'm playing in a GPT tomorrow. Esper and Mono-Black are really overrepresented here. I think I want to play this:
--His deck list here. The quote function went crazy and put a bunch of HTML code so yeah, I just deleted it.--

newb at this so I don't know if I can really suggest anything, but I am curious about a couple of things.
Why 3 main board Chained to the Rocks if you expect Esper Control and Mono-Black to be over represented? I usually side out Chained to the Rocks against Esper because Obzedat, Ghost Council dodges it by blinking, Blood Baron of Vizkopa is pro-white, Aetherlingblinks, and Elspeth tokens aren't worth the time. I can see it being useful forDesecration Demon though. Are you also expecting Mono-Blue Devotion and G/x midrange to be big as well?
Is Last Breath for the Mono-Blue Devotion match up? Sort of like Chained to the Rocks 5 and 6?
I'm a little spoiled by Magma Jet, but are you sure you don't want to be running any?
It might not be best removal out there but I've had it save my ass as an end of turn 2 play for 2 to the face and fixing my draws far too many times.

If the deck suits your playing style and you like it you are good to go
RSF is a good call as he's immune to Doom Blade and Ultimate Price but personally speaking in a field of Esper and Mono B I'd put Reckoner in the S/B. Red sources are possibly a bit light for him too at only 19. Not a fan of Fanatic in that meta either, both decks pack lots of removal so it's hard to get much value from him. I'd run more land and Chandra main deck as Phoenix recursion is powerful in those match ups.
I love Magma Jet too though I don't think it is essential in these match ups, more personal preference.

A deck like this hat two top 8's in today's GPT (I couldn't play because I had a Dr. Appointment).
Chained is for DD / [card:1ucql3nw]Nightveil Spectre[/card:1ucql3nw]. Esper is favourable enough that I think I can get there even with three dead cards. While Mono Black and Esper are over represented, so are G/W/x variants that aren't part of the real meta. Some JP players refuse to give up on little kid selesnya. Probably because the spent a fortune on [card:1ucql3nw]Voice of Resurgence[/card:1ucql3nw]. I've also seen a lot of Mono U. G/R seems to be underrepresented.
[card:1ucql3nw]Last Breath[/card:1ucql3nw] is for MonoU mainly, but I think it comes in vs the mirror and against VoR also maybe.
I love [card:1ucql3nw]magma jet[/card:1ucql3nw] (and just got a foil JP pair for $10) but I'd rather dome them for 4 than two. This deck isn't really meant for T5+.

Have not been on here in a while do to extreme amount of work I keep getting in, but FNM was a big win.
Played mono-black and went 5-0 with no in game losses. Winnings were a Commander deck (new set) and some packs. Yeah!
I did not have to buy the Grixis deck!
Dumb play of the event- A guy playing Esper (who I just hate cause he has the people skills and general charm of Farv from Super Troopers) tried to cast Ray of Dissolution on Erebos, God of the Dead.
He thought he had won with that play, and when informed of indestructability; he turned a shade of red that should have been the poster child of folks who hate mono red decks. He tried to move his life
total up, and I again informed him Erebos says no. He got all upset with and threw a hissy fit claiming I was being unsportsman like.
I didn't really care cause a Grixis Commmander Deck was heading my way for small fee of $5.

I think the mutavaults have to go. With both Ashey and RSF y ou can't keep ANY 2 land hand with a mutavault,I'm playing in a GPT tomorrow. Esper and Mono-Black are really overrepresented here. I think I want to play this:
[deck]Creatures (28)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner

1 Hammer of Purphoros

11 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
2 Mutavault
Sideboard (15)
2 Burning Earth
1 Chained to the Rocks
2 Chandra Pyromaster
1 Hammer of Purphoros
2 Last Breath
4 Mizzium Mortars
3 Skullcrack[/deck]
Thoughts / suggestions?
and you really don't want to be staring those down thinking you wouldnt have to mull if you had just had all mountains.
That or play pyro red (YP$ can be cast off mutas) and ditch the reckoners all together since youre expecting mono black and esper.... you dont want to be on the minotaur plan unless youre facing midrange.

My local meta as of last week was mosly esper, MBD, RUG, and gruul ramp, and I had a very good performance withI'm playing in a GPT tomorrow. Esper and Mono-Black are really overrepresented here. I think I want to play this:
Thoughts / suggestions?
[Deck]
Dudes
4 firedrinker satyr
4 rakdos cackler
4 rakdos shred freak
4 firefist striker
4 ash zealot
4 chanda's phoenix
3 fanic of mogis
Non-dudes
2 hammer of purphoros
4 magma jet
4 lightning strike
Land
2 mutavault
21 mountain
Board
4 boros reckoner
1 mountain
3 flames of the firebrand
3 mizzium mortars
2 electrickery
2 skullcrack
[/deck]
The main idea was to maximize speed and consistency. The deck is pretty much preboarded for esper (which some people in
the area always play, good or bad), and it works fairly well against MBD too. In all the times i've shuffled it up in tournaments I have had to mulligan twice, once against gruul ramp, once against BW midrange, and both were one landers. It's never lost to either MBD or esper, so just something to consider.

thanks to nbw for the sig.
You do need to try to gay it up a little more.
You're like the least gay member of this clan.
And that's counting the fact that you voluntarily have sex with men.
