You are part of the problem.

Since Suga has inexplicably went on hiatus, I've decided you're going to be the new Suga.

As such, I hate you.

But I love you.

It's complicated.

Maaka doing some work in these mono red matches.

I guess it's good against midrangey stuff.

Also, someone explain to me the allure of white aggro. The deck is literally nothing but vanilla dudes and cards that protect your dudes. Pretty sure Boros Charm is the only card in that deck that makes you make decisions.
Is it bad I wanna point out the 'irony' of a red mage saying that? ;-)
Young Pyromancer
Firedrinker Satyr
Chandra
Shock
Lightning Strike
Chandra, Pyromaster
Magma Jet

Look at the list of cards with complicated decision trees.

Now look at your statement.

Now look at
the list again.

I'm on a horse.

I like white a bit, so here's something to give you a bigger box to stand on.

- White decks are usually split between 3 decisions with its mana, extend board state, protect creatures, or enhance creatures (anthems or combat tricks). Often, around turn 3 or 4 you have to figure out whether or not your opponent can get rid of your turn 3 or 4 creature before you can untap with it. If they can, you have to sandbag it because you'll need to keep your protection up. Likewise, anthems make everything better, but they're pointless if you've got no creatures. If you have enough creatures on board, do you make them better with anthems or protect them?

- White also has a psuedo control aspect, there's probably a word for this already, but white likes to fuck with the rules of the game. It's able to slow decks down directly like Thalia's non-creature spell tax or stonehorn dignitary's your opponent skips their next combat
step. If you're even slightly sadistic you'll get a thrill out of the face your opponent makes when they realize their entire game plan has been thrown off because they won't be able to cast a critical spell on time.

- White's play style is more about overcoming your enemies than running under them or reaching over them. If the colors were in a fighting anime, the Red fighter would do his ultimate move on his enemy and say, "You're a 100 years too slow to defeat me." The White fighter would say, "Come! Use your ultimate attack against mine and let's find out whose is stronger!"

- My inner Timmy fucking loves soldiers, knights, heroes, and angels. Seriously. The ideas and flavor of white cards usually gets me excited. Path of Bravery? Terrible card but 2 dudes charging a giant ass dragon on horseback is bad ass.

Generally, I don't find "less complicated" decision trees, decks, cards, or whatever someone dislikes as simple to be a
bad thing. If I can put up good numbers while thinking a lot less than my opponents, awesome for me. I won't be as tired as the tournament goes on and my deck has fewer decisions for me to derp over and throw a game.

The problem with WW isn't that it's simple, it's that the archetype doesn't give you much room to outplay an opponent.

Okay I got to admit I REALLY like Pannell's RDW with the Maakas. I didn't know if I wanted to go Fanatic or Pyro, but I like this one better for my meta full of Green ramps and bluff Maaka all day. Add in some Seismic Stomp and a copy or two of Chandra for control matchups in the sideboard against them and it's good to go.

I also noticed I know one of the guys in the Top 16 that plays at my LGS once in a while. I played against him when I was still fairly new and was a total prick.

Well, usually in those anime the guy with the weaker ultimate move loses so... if your ultimate move is worse, you're kinda fucked.

SO SCG LA. Was pretty cool. Got Patrick Sully to sign my Foil hammer of purphoros, joked with brian kibler, played a match next to Huey Jensen and watched him destroy a control mirror, and ran against a guy playing MDU exact Walter white list.

I started 2-0, somehow lost g2 of round 3 to an Esper player that I sort of know, then flooded in game 3, won round 4, got nutdrawn by this DOUCHEY Boros humans player, win 2 in a row, then go on a losing streak vs. Red/x decks getting bumped out of the money.

Overall, I think the tourney was awesome since I usually hate myself when I'm not in contention for top 8, but besides obvious disappointment, I enjoyed the tourney. My buddy playing my list started 6-0, but finished 1-3 in the last 4 rounds. Granted his 3 match losses where top 8, top8, 9th place. I believe he got a round 7 feature match against the Boros Devotion deck and he got blown out by a singleton maindeck chained
to the rocks game 1.

What kind of vehicle, windstrider? Fuel pump & sparkplugs (and sparkplug wires) are the most common causes there.
It's a '99 Lincoln Continental. We had the plugs and wires replaced last month. I'm going to bring it back to the shop and have them look at it again. I'm desperately hoping it's not the fuel pump.
Sorry to hear that, windstrider. Hope your day turns around.
Thanks, kaze. It did. We had friends come over and hang out for a while. Good food, good booze, and good company made for a much-welcome relaxing evening.

What match up do you to 24 land for?
The mountain in the board is for boros reckoner. I am willing to risk the two non-red lands with all the double costing, but with reckoner's triple costing it becomes too risky, so it's not a 24th, it replaces a vault and ensures that I can hit reckoner on curve. It's basically a question of hypergeometric distribution, the 23rd mountain's presence has a significant enough effect on the odds hitting RRR by turn 3 that it becomes worth the sideboard slot.

As far as why white weenie is a strategy people like, it's a factor of white having the best cheap drops. Think about it, white gets dorks that are better than red's for the mana. Is anyone here going to argue that firedrinker satyr, as good as he
it, is better than soldier of the pantheon? The difference is that red's spells are better for z-rush strategies (falters are generally cheaper than taps, and do the same thing in aggro decks (and mass falters are definitely cheaper than mass tapdown), burn closes games, and protections are overrated as simply not overextending is sufficient the vast bulk of the time). At higher casting costs there is greater parity, to the point where dragons and angels are relatively even.

These things make sense. It's similar to why I hated playing AIR; I felt so dependent on my draws + lack of options that it drove me
crazy. Just different styles of play I suppose.

It will interest you to know that mono-white Death & Taxes is one of my favorite legacy decks, because it is a very deep deck:)

I'm no expert on MTGO, but I believe Sealed only comes in two flavors: Phantom and DE. Unlike Constructed, there are no other formats that really make sense...either you're paying into a competitive pod with prizes or you are doing no risk/no return.

The aggro matchup's usually fine(at least it was in testing), but I drew horribly. I lost to aggro 3 times, and in two of the matchups, they all went to game 3's where I either flooded or got stuck on lands. Aggro, forever punishing bad draws.

I'd give a tourney report, but all of the rounds would be the same. "go to 7/8 against midrange, combo'd off. Resolved a hammer and a walker vs control, bleed them out, stabalized vs. aggro, flooded."

Ugh that's awful. Phantom sucks because you get no packs, only phantom tix and a QP if you win out. That's unacceptable to me.

Looks like I'll have to
try to catch a sealed DE but that will be pretty difficult given the fluid nature of my schedule.

I'm right with you, Val; that's one thing that drives me nuts about MTGO because I can't often commit the block of time. I've tried to do a Sealed PR or RE twice now and had to bail both times because of "other stuff".
