Yeah, daddy stuff and all that. I find it easier to commit to paper events since it gets me out of the house and away from parental obligations.

Upon further analysis of phantom events, the phantom payout isn't terrible if you overlook the initial investment. You can go infinite with around 70% win rate. I just play so much standard and am more comfortable with my constructed skills that I'm hesitant to try phantom sealed out. I guess if I was able to play more often it would be a good way to farm QPs though.

Just picked up my grixis commander deck at lgs.
I open it and start sleeving.
The guy at the shop offers to buy true name nemesis for $30.
I say throw in sales tax on another commander deck and we have a deal.
Free jund commander deck.

Nice DS! I've still got my jund and naya in limbo as to being sold or being opened.

Also, CFB? I thought it was some other site you said! Z you tricky tricky Aussie, you!
Congrats!

I bought the Grixis deck and sleeved it up. I'm going to be making a post in the Commander section about improving the deck.

I decided to forego buying any of the precons and just wait for the singles to drop.

You should never disregard Commander. It's probably tied for best format with Modern.

People aren't realizing that they can get the decks at Wal-Mart for 30 bucks I guess. My LGS was selling the decks for 30.00 so I grabbed the Grixis deck. I'm going to grab Jund and Esper at Wally World once they get put on the shelf.

French EDH is a great format. Multiplayer commander is something I'd only recommend playing with friends/people you know and is horrible otherwise.

EDH is a format that has to be played with a casual mindset. It's not hard to build a douche-deck and just destroy, but it's more fun to build decks that do wacky things.

I actually enjoy edh a good bit. Maybe a bit less with strangers, but just the chaos of the format and the crazy shit that can happen is just really fun :stupid:

EDH is great fun but let's not go too far and call it the best format. I haven't even played Legacy and I know it's the best format.

Shit, if shipping over there wasn't such a pain, I'd get you to sell mine for me over there :P
Well, that and I already promised it to a friend, lol.

My conscious is stopping me from selling the decks for outrageous prices. It disgusts me when stores do it, so I can't bring myself to do it. As a collector, I REALLY wanted a FTV 20, but as soon as it went up to like 200 bones, I was left out.

Meh, my conscience is sated because I'm still selling it for less then scg and my lgs.

I can't remember who said this, but I find it to be somewhat true.

Best format, not close.

Legacy > Standard > Block Constructed > Modern.

Draft is great. I don't consider sealed or Commander to be real formats.

After this weekend I'm feeling a bit frustrated. My hot steak has ended and I've gone from not losing anything to not winning anything. I guess it's karma for trolling RivalTuna?

Feeling burnt out. Losing everything is not fun. Feel like I'm being trolled by Japan't refusal to follow the rest of the world's meta.

Also, how do you reconcile playing the best deck (which you hate for various reasons) / playing a deck you actually like?

Big Boros / Boros Devotion have merged, but in a direction I can't stand with the worst mana-curve of all time / a lot of cards I just hate.

Rakdos Aggro and White-based Boros were big winners this weekend, but I don't know if I want to go in that direction. At least they are aggro decks with a fuckin curve.

Hey, your diagram is backwards.

I understand it probably looks correct where you're from, but here in the Northern hemisphere, > means "greater than."

So you're burnt out, aren't winning and don't like the direction your deck is going. You should take a break. Maybe just 2 or so weeks, but something. Give a bit of time to just stop thinking about magic. You'll realize how much time you spend on the game and how much free time you'll have if you drift away from it for a bit.

Posted: Mon Nov 04, 2013 4:13 am
by DocLawless
Then, when you come back to it, play a deck you love, screw what the internet says about "best", and do what you know works.

Actually, do those things even if you don't take a break from it.

I like the idea of legacy, but the cost barrier to participation is too damn high, and there's just no events for it on the local scale.
That makes it weaker, imo. It doesn't make much sense to invest insane amounts of money in a foramt you'll never get to play.

On an unrelated note, i've had 6 and 7 views on my edh sets over the last 2 days on ebay. There's 1 day left, And I'm pretty much decided to just cancel them tonight and just use the damn things myself.

Stop trying to force badly positioned decks. Lay sonething that attacks your meta, not a meta from a different country!

if people want to be dumb, let them be dumb. they were pre-ordering for $40 on SCG/CFB.

I wish I knew enough dumb Legacy players to pull off investing in a bunch of Grixis decks and selling the Nemesis/Strix to turn profits, but alas I missed the boat there.

now, if I can top 8 some more FNMs, I can pick these up for ~$17/ea. ($5 entry, $20 store credit, $12 remainder after tax), hopefully meaning I can grab the Naya one for cheap
for my girlfriend, either the Esper or Bant one for myself, and either just get the rest for fun or try and go for one of each sealed to sit on for years until they go up in price. I might be too impatient for the latter.

probably going for Bant, because:
a) Esper Commander looks like a giant target for multiplayer games (although the artifact sub-commander looks fun to build around)
b) I like doing degenerate things with Deadeye Navigator
c) access to green
b) MOTHERFUCKING BIRD SOLDIER
