If anyone cares to comment, here is the laptop:

Lenovo E531
Intel i7 processor
Windows 7 Pro
8 GB RAM, SODIMM
15.6 in screen
500 GB HDD
~$1000.

Keep in mind this is purchased in and shipped to Australia when doing comparisons. Not all models are available in Australia.

Oh

I get it

You're saying they're so good it's like there's literally no competition.

I get you.

You're so funny, Helios.

I died laughing just now. Literally. I'm a ghost typing this out.

AMD, though.

If anyone is looking for some good tv, Skins Season 3 is excellent (I was told to watch season 3 because of the Emily & Naomi storyline, if anyone is wondering why I skipped 1 & 2). Seasons 1 & 2 are apparently fantastic as well.

I'm just messing, different flavors. The i7 is one of the best processors on the market, and you can actually purchase it baked-in to a reliable brand of laptop. None of the laptops that fit the specs had AMD, so it wasn't like I really picked one over the other.

FWIW I have very specific needs and Helios did a great job meeting and exceeding all expectations. Look forward to some serious streaming in the near future!

I second this recommendation. The UK version, of course.

All of my this. It takes a little more work to find, but so worth it. They changed lots of the music in the US version, probably due to licensing.

They also took the sexiness level down from a 9 to like a 4.5 in the U.S. version.

British accents.

Yes.

I think this is a fairly good rec, but I've gotta ask, just for completeness; what're the graphics card specs?

Also, mind throwing a link to where exactly this build is? Custom assemble through lenovo website, or found somewhere else?

Edit: check dthe lenovo custom builder. Looks like only graphics card available is an Intel HD4000 integrated. It's an integrated, so ick, but it's not unusable...

Also apparently is a sale going on till nov12th for that
series.

I'm gonna check through newegg real quick for some comparisons, cause the integrated graphics and the 2.2ghz processor make me a bit wary.

Yeah, looks about like I thought. Might not like the 2.2ghz or the integrated graphics, but at that pricepoint, that's about all you can get...

Did find one interesting thing though, crazy newegg bastards.

It's a custom build. You have to go to Lenovo's Australian site, it isn't available through the US site. Also, Newegg doesn't ship to Australia.

Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M with 2GB VRAM. FYI CPU is what matters in streaming.

Do they have anything like Boxing Day / Black Friday in Australia? Would it make sense to buy on Black Friday and have it shipped to Australia?

Posted: Sun Nov 10, 2013 8:26 am

We have Boxing Day, but I don't want to wait almost seven weeks; ill honestly save more money paying now and then playing for seven weeks.

You could use an international forwarder to get it shipped from a US service to Australia, but it isn't going to be worth the effort imo.

Playing against [card]Maze's End[/card], I crack in with FDS, CP, YP$, he casts riot control (on 10 life). I respond Skullcrack, he takes his damage from the crack, but not from the creatures.

Me: "what about the creatures?"

Him: "It's not a fucking counterspell".

Me: "In this case it is, damage can't be prevented".

Him: User disconnected.

Trolls don't like being trolled. I had a boros charm in hand and a Chandra on ultimate too, he was toast from multiple angles. Bad deck is bad.

So I'm catching up over my morning coffee here in the UK and I've said it before but it's worth repeating, you have a really fucking amazing clan here. I joined for the MTG expecting to have to navigate through a sea of MTGS type nonsense for the few relevant posts and I found a bunch of really fucking thoughtful, caring and supportive guys. Not the stereotypical image of a Red Mage :)

On the laptop front I'm gonna use these guys www.pcspecialist.co.uk cos they are much cheaper and I can get EXACTLY what I want, not that I have control issues you understand :) That said it's taking me a while to find out exactly what I do want as there is soooo much choice it's a bit overwhelming
:) I got as far as a 15', I7 , SSD but the comments regarding AMD and Intel got me thinking that I need to research more as if I'm doing this I may as well do it properly :) Any thoughts on this gratefully received and if any of you ever need a place to stay in Edinburgh just give me a shout :)

redbro love: :iiam:   :jam: :hifive:  :munch:

If you're buying a laptop, the only reason to go with Intel v. AMD is iff. you're getting a Haswell, because they have impressive power-
management features. Ivy Bridge and AMD are comparable in power management. (I get roughly 8-10 hours of browsing/video out of my Haswell i5, full brightness, which I'm pretty sure is unmatched as far as pre-Haswell ultrabooks go).

Also I am awake and it is 4:25 AM and no more coherence and goodnight.

I've been disregarding Standard for Commander for months - enjoy.

In fact, pretty much all I've done Standard-wise is find out that Esper is basically a bye.

How popular is Anger of the Gods these days?
I am thinking between buying RW or RG manabase.

Oh hey, Jace. What was that? You just came in turn 4 and went to 5?

Okay, during my upkeep, I make my Rakdos Cackler into a monster with [card]Titan's Strength[/card], scry and oh look, Ashley. I play her as well and go straight for you. Go back home, blue mage.

@yarpus: Anger is roughly 1 tix in modo.

Run it in my SB for Big Boros now. Good feels wiping opposing Phoenixes or Voices into exile. If you expect creature battles it's solid. If you expect that you have to play beat down in your meta than it is not needed.

Commander makes my head hurt...it's fun to watch, but I rarely have the time and patience for it. If we're gonna gang around a table, cube seems much more enticing as often as not.

It's not currently in very many decks, I think Big Boros is the only one on anyone's radar that runs it.

Today on Cockatrice:
I'm playing Mana Sink Deck Wins (a pile, but a pile of greatness), and my opponent is on some terrible W/B Walls brew (I can tell by the fact that he was playing more than zero walls that weren't named Wall of Omens. In fact, I saw at least 3 Wall of Blood and a Wall of Reverence). Despite how awful his deck was, I could not kill this guy for a very long time. I had 12 lands and created two level 8 Kargan Dragonlords, but he PTE'd both. The same fate befell my Kithkin Spirit Warrior Avatar. I was, however, able to land a Spikeshot Elder (the only one in the deck) with him at 8 life. I use 9 lands to ping him for 3. Pass. He drops a land, goes up to 6 from Wall of Reverence, and passes. I topdeck Koth, and tap 4 lands to cast him. -2 him for 12 red, giving me a total of
20 red mana...but 18 mana is all Spikeshot Elder needs to find 6 new ways to hurt my opponent. And that, gentlemen, is how Mana Sink Deck Wins.
