My plan with Jace is normally to tick up to ultimate for Helix and other spell. It's usually game winning. I've disagreed with this threads assessment of Jace from the start, and most people in the higher echelon say Jace is a problem for the deck.

But then I've always preferred UW to Esper and enjoyed a better burn matchup for it

coincidentally, Josh 'the Silver Eagle, Wings Spread Wide' Silvestri wrote an article on CFB complimenting my opinion, I recommend reading his thoughts on Burn

Three days, 18 pages and 3 wars ago, I said that I was going to test Titan's Strength over Searing Blood. I am very happy with the results, but not enamored. This is the build:
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Shock
3 Titan's Strength
4 Magma Jet
4 Skullcrack
4 Lightning Strike
4 Boros Charm
4 Warleader's Helix
2 Boros Guildgate
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
3 Mutavault
10 Mountain
Sideboard
3 Anger of the Gods
3 Toil/Trouble
2 Fated Conflagration
2 Blind Obedience
3 Boros Reckoner
2 Chained to the Rocks
You see that my side is completely different than everyone else's. I have the mindset of "play the deck you need to play in your meta". My side will change when the State Championships come to town.
Getting back to Titan's Strength, it was such an awesome feeling to slam into Sylvan Caryatid and kill that bitch. TS was great on defense
too. A little mutavault on mutavault action and I walk away with my land and a scry. I really like the card and would love to play a full set, but would need to add more creatures if I did. Last night out of 20 games I never had a dead TS in hand. I at least had a mutavault to use it on twice. A very nice feeling is when you swing on turn 3 with your AZ with a TS on it and have your opponent down to 13 and then end of their turn Shock them to 11. The blood is in the water and the sharks are circling. That extra scry is very helpful. I won quite a few games, because of that "Lightning Bolt" on the front of one of my creatures or mutavaults.
All of that being said, I will contradict myself a little. I will be replacing 1 TS for a third CttR main. I played B/W mid, Jund, Boros aggro and an up and coming Dredge deck which is a bitch to play. My toughest games were against the Dredge deck, because they load their graveyard, bestow creatures, Nighthowler becomes stupid big and you just don'
t have enough to burn them down and slow down their creatures. A 1/1 mana dork quickly becomes an 11/11. You respond on the stack and kill the dork, they still have an 11/11. You chain the dork, they have a 10/10. I went 50/50 against that deck. Very tough, hope this doesn't become a thing.
After all of the games in hindsight, I wish I had that 3rd Chain, which is now in. I'm taking the build to FNM and will let you guys know.

Thanks for the notes.
Went 3-1 in the DE, won 2x 8 man, lost finals of another, lost in the semis in a 4th. Overall, deck feels good. So, I want to test a bit more and see how it goes. My sideboard was actually perfect, I felt like I had an extra edge after sideboarding all the time.

The thing about Burning Earth is that I think if I play the card in my SB, I want multiples of them.
A harder decision I think to make is whether to g2 vs esper, do we leave in a number of chains assuming fiendslayer/archangel or board in mortars to assume BBV?

If they're not dumb, they run both to exploit that predicament.

So why don't you write that side boarding article? I'd read it fo sho!
@jsilv Thank you Josh for that awesome article on CFB. Very informative, especially coming from someone who plays Esper a lot. Who better to tell you what beats a deck than it's pilot. Regarding Dredge, you hit it right on the head. I made the comparison last night that it's like hexproof, in the sense that when it goes off, it's like an almost inevitable win. I witnessed a win
last night with two mana on turn 6 and his opponent hit every single drop.
Thanks again dude!

Really Enjoyed the post above on TS, Sylvan Caryatid is a horrible card to play vs!
Although i notice you have toil and trouble sideboard but no temple of silence?
Unfortunately i have no muta's so TS's significance lessens slightly
I've read alot of this thread, i made a deck that i really like, i do need to change some cards though
[b:18g8zcg9]Planeswalker (1)[/b:18g8zcg9]
1x Chandra, Pyromaster
[b:18g8zcg9]Instant (23)[/b:18g8zcg9]
4x Boros Charm
4x Lightning Strike
4x Magma Jet
4x Searing Blood
4x Skullcrack
3x Warleader's Helix
[b:18g8zcg9]Land (22)[/b:18g8zcg9]
14x Mountain
4x Sacred Foundry
4x Temple of Triumph
[b:18g8zcg9]Creature (14)[/b:18g8zcg9]
4x Ash Zealot
4x Chandra's Phoenix
3x Legion Loyalist
3x Satyr Firedancer
[b:18g8zcg9]Sideboard (12)[/b:18g8zcg9]
1x Satyr Firedancer
1x Legion Loyalist
1x Warleader's Helix
3x Shock
4x Chained to the Rocks
I missed the discussion on
the Pyromancers gauntlet in the end. Was it decided that it was just too slow?
Also missed the end result on Satyr.
I know legion loyalist isn't great in this deck now. Need to get myself some firedrinkers
there's not really any other Red 1 drops, We have access to cackler that i'm not a fan of. especially vs caryatid
Nivmagus Elemental, it's a 1/2 that we can eat our own spell if they decide to counter ours?
Blistercoil Weird, Given that we're likely playing our spells on their turn, being able to pump an attacker a little and untap him isn't awful, isn't great either though
Priest of Iroas, it gives us a little enchantment removal but at the cost of 4 mana! and that's if it stays alive, not worth it to me.
Was also looking at other Split cards like Toil // Trouble incase we wanted to add a different scry land instead of black. Turn // Burn is the only one that is worth mentioning but maybe that's because i'm an izzet player at heart ^^

Explain how legion loyalist will ever be better than rakdos cackler? Cut legion loyalist from your deck period and put the 3 shock in the main.

This. You will not have the creatures in play to take advantage of Loyalist's battalion effect. So he's garbage. Well, he's pretty much garbage anyway. Play shock.

I guess we're confused about playing a card that you "know isn't great in this deck."

I bought the deck, then realised legion ain't great anymore, but i'd likely want some firedrinkers or other 1 drop to replace it. (which i don't have yet) Shock works, which is why i have 3 sideboard to side them out.

Take legion loyalist out of the maindeck and sideboard completely. Put shocks in the MD. You don't need a 1drop in the main.

I feel like the 75 mutated completely while I was away. Busy with leaving preparations. Happy to say just about done. Probably do my last JP FNM tomorrow. Next one in Canada (if they still do standard).

I feel the same, come back from a week skiing and suddenly everything is different. Not only the SB, no less. But I think even Zem must have noticed. Last video I would like to quote:
"I wont ever ever take FDS out of the sideboard. He is just so good"
Week later when the video is released we have -2 FDS
What was it some people are saying? Nothing is sacred?

nothing is sacred, god is dead, your foundry is only a boros guildgate that zem has sabotaged to deal you more burn damage

Current list I'm testing:
[deck]
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Young Pyromancer
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Shock
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Skullcrack
4 Warleader's Helix
2 Boros Guildgate
10 Mountain
3 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
Sideboard
2 Chained to the Rocks
2 Blind Obedience
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Spark Trooper
4 Rakdos Cackler
1 Young Pyromancer
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
1 Assemble the Legion
[/deck]
I mean I misplayed game 1 (attacked with mutavault thinking he couldnt possibly have the 4th helix while i had skullcrack in hand, and he did -_- ) and sideboard games he kept activating Mutavault into open red mana and brought in Spark Trooper, so it could be that....

20 minutes work for 4 packs and 2QPs. Yeah, still the best.
Got my first 2 QPs this morning. I tried running 2 queues at once. I have to say, I didn't enjoy it one bit. (did 2-0, 1-0, but felt stressed out of my mind). Went another solo for 2-0. Still trying to fit in a DE.

"Nothing is sacred" is a great motto for consistency if I've ever heard one.
Yeah, consistancy is something I'm afraid the deck will always lack because the parts work differently and each can be answered in different ways.
Turn 1-2 mana dork, turn 2-3 support, turn 4-5 threat or turn 2-4 disruption, turn 5-6 threat just isn't something red can do well.
We're definitely a rogue deck. Thankfully, there isn't a universal hate card this time like Timely Reinforcements or Thragtusk.

I know the deck shifted radically, but Pyro is as good as Searing Blood against creature decks and better everywhere else; it's also relevantly a body which means repeatable damage; the draws with a creature are easier to win than those without. I think overall it's a substantial improvement, even if it takes some getting used to.

At least you have to draw pretty badly to lose now.
I don't think you realised earlier, I was siding out charm / Skullcrack against red aggro; not the burn mirror.

I knew that, I just dont like siding out Skullcrack against a deck that runs 4 Warleader's Helix as the main win-con in this matchup.
