Del Tora*

She's of Italian lineage, not Spanish.

The proper answer is: It's a woman worthy of tapping at a magic event.
This is just crappy posting.

I'm still on the fence about whether or not James should drink more or less.

Have a few customers here that are from Australia. I don't think they can function without liquor, and we call them all "Bender" from Futurerama. They don't get it.
Maybe they would get it if you referencing Futurama? It's better known.

I'm turning into an unemployed alcoholic.

But it's okay since I'm an artist.
This can only end poorly.

In the pilot and western horse
world; if you don't get the reference; it's a huge joke here.

Whatever dude. I have seen about 4 nice looking gals in my life at PLAYING at FNM. Big events, I can never get off work for, thus no opinion there on event status.

Yeah I clearly don't know what Futurama is and all Australian's are alcoholics. Only ugly women can play magic. Delightful.

I just watched a few vids on youtube of Melissa Del Tora just now. Zman.....you are probably right. Been working at a small airport for while and have seen no good looking gals for a week. Need to get out of here soon.

What are talking you about :eyebrow: , robots run exclusively on liquor thus the parallel joke (if you have to explain the joke....)? I have not missed a single Futurama episode since it hit comedy central (DVR Go!). You clearly have not hung out with any pilots or ranch hands. Good people and
hilarious jokes. Cause...well...anything else they talk about is the weather  .

Yes, I have seen a few fugly gals play Magic. :no2:

You an angry drunk type? Sadly, I know a few. :(

I like Melissa DeTora (this is the actual correct spelling). She's a decent player, writes some fair articles, though nothing earth-shattering, she's from my neck of the woods, and she's one of the few ambassadors of the game we have for the female half of the population. Jackie Lee is another (also from this area I believe). The more women who can succeed at the game the better off MTG will be in terms of growth potential.

I enjoy reading her articles on TCG player as well. Jackie Lee's articles kind of lost interest after the judges debacle (don't care and was not there, thus no judging from me). It seems her writing is really defensive of critique now.

The response from the readers was not good either. She should have ignored it and not written anything about it.

But she made an assumption during the match when she should have either spoken up or called a judge. At the same time, though, it sounds like her opponent downright lied about the chain of events. The situation was handled poorly by all parties involved. Of course, hindsight is 20/20. It's easy for me to say what should have happened, but who knows what I would have done in the same situation.

Yes there, yes participated, camera was purposely NOT engaged for said events for obvious reasons. Quite the wild turn of events...

No blackmail shots, but I will post some pics in the personal thread at some point as it was a formal dress party and we looked pretty slick.

BTW Dan, if I were you I would come up with something really nice to do for your lovely wife within the next few days to make her feel super-special since she had to take so much of a sideline last night while we were all cutting loose. That lady of yours is one has one exceptionally generous and laid-back nature, and methinks you should do something that tells her definitively how far above all else you put her. We all need to bow, scrape and cater to her a bit after Dude 2.0 arrives as she has been a really, really great sport about letting us have all the fun!! ;-)

I still find it odd that after all of the pro tours there has still only been one woman to make top 8. I do like how wotc has not insulted women's intelligence by starting some god awful "girl centered" campaign or worse released a special chickified edition. The d&d division released the awful book "confessions of a part-time sorceress" that made the assertion that playing d&d was a chance to play dress up in you imagination.

The reason more women aren't in the Pro magic scene are probably the same reasons women are under-represented in higher career echelons and STEM disciplines:

1. Children - Paper events means travel, and travel means being away from your family. Women are less likely to accommodate careers with significant travel requisites if they're also responsible for a wide spread of child-rearing tasks. On a local level, there's prob a statically significant # of women are staying home to facilitate men playing Magic ("I'll take the kids tonight, have fun!"). Nothing inherently wrong with that structure, but it's definitely going to reduce the female turnout among pre-exposed player candidates.

2. Monkey See, Monkey Want Do - It isn't hard to find an iconic pro that you personally identify with as a male. Zem lights all our hearts by being a zesty critical thinker, for example. Think about
how many people at your FNM events model not only their decks, but their ENTIRE approach to the game in the vein of pro talking heads. There isn't a diverse-enough spread of chicks writing for the general audience (yet?). The ones that do write are going to be scrutinized as gender representatives, which is a tall order to fit while trying to focus on a difficult game.

Potential candidates do not have a model to follow.

3. Women with the skill sets favored my Magic can be doing... a LOT of other stuff, just like STEM candidates. Why would they elbow through a frontier when so many other rewarding activities are already more accessible?

4. Hasbro is a token misogynist company. Even though I enjoy playing Magic, I cringe every time I think about lending them my consumer support.

@Nuwen

I understand that men are evil and icky or [insert feminist nonsense here] but why would you describe Hasbro as misogynist, the literal definition meaning "a person who hates, dislikes, mistrusts, or mistreats women"? How can an inanimate object hate anything, and what about a little girl playing house indicates that hatred is involved?

She's done some other borderline scummy things in the past leading up to this, which is why she didn't get any sympathy.

Jeez. Yeah, she shouldn't have written an article on it. It seemed like she was trying to gain sympathy from the community.
She's done some other borderline scummy things in the past
leading up to this, which is why she didn't get any sympathy.

Check out the top 8 player profiles at GP Dallas:

Especially the headgear of the last dude...
There is part of the reason why gals are not seen in many top 8's. The head gear kind of hurt to look at.
I don't know...seemed to work well for Z...
