I'm still confused on whether or not Alex actually has Aspergers.
He used it as a defense of having a moral void, so he's either a sociopath or doesn't understand social signals.

Countryside Crusher was once in a good and fun deck with Seismic Assault before anyone knew anything about anything

fun is perfectly fun when fun safely

Seismic Assault should be in every deck.

It's better than Black Lotus in at least two ways.

Seismic Assault won the first ever Modern tournament

this means it is strongest card in Modern

That is obviously true in any case.

It puts you one step ahead of your opposing UR opponent by having a 3cc creature with no immediate impact on the board.

Thanks to this discussion of countryside crusher, I'm now aware that Ben Stark kicked off an international magic incident and that someone on reddit complained about how insulting two entire countries worth of players is sjw bullshit.

Posted: Thu Jan 15, 2015 7:23 pm
by Thrillho
Not that the comment made actually matters, but the company and commentator response is just common sense given that if you're an internationally traded company you cannot be on record insulting two national demographics of customers.

I was watching the live stream. It was great. As a Ben S fan and also a troll I had to hold my tongue because they were issuing perma bans in the twitch chat and I'd just created a new account that weekend on account of my previous ban

Saw an article on SCG by Ross Merriam with this tag line:

"Ross Merriam had a great finish at the Open last weekend, but it came with a heavy cost. In this very personal piece, Ross makes himself vulnerable and shares how his success came at the cost of an important long-time relationship."

I was all set to read some boo-hoo shit about entitled man-babies manipulating their significant others. Turns out it was just a gag to reel me in and read the article. I fell for it. Hard.

I personally think there's a line e-sports personalities have been on the wrong side of for a while that a lot of members, particularly in the Twitch community, are trying to come out on the right side of. And then the MTG community comes out on the distant polar opposite border of that right side.

There's a barrier between professional and quality programming following whatever kind of sports or games you're interested in, and then there's the unprofessional and completely sanitized content outside of that middle country.

The former can be interesting, but scares off outsiders and cultivates the "Boys Club" mentality (boys club being a surrogate term for "anyone who isn't already heavily invested in whatever the game is," though part of that is the lack of women representing video and analog gaming), which isn't healthy for any kind of broadly accepted popular activity. The latter is uninteresting, stifles a lot of competitive aspects of what is in one sense or another a sport/competition (because everyone is right and we should not tell people who are wrong they are wrong), and generally is a grey, just-palatable-enough blob of flavorless sugar and mush.

They're both fine lines with most examples flailing wildly in the wastelands away from the borders.

I go back to my (GUTTER EXCLUSIVE) Michael Jacob example. Michael Jacob doesn't unnecessarily shit on terrible commentary (and massively shits on terrible commentary), but then bans the shit out of anyone who is an ignorant asshole. He is a singularity of negativity and yet in spite of that is one of the most-watched singular Magic personalities in the streaming MTG community. And while not all Magic/e-sports content should strive to be an oasis of shit talking the new MODO client, his balance between "positive" negativity and lack of tolerance for generally harmful bullshit is probably the best measuring stick I can think of in developing commentary for a world where we watch people play tabletop and video games instead of sportsball.

I never understood the tactic of "you'll probably just ban me" martyr complex wankery people in the obvious wrong always exhibit when they're being shitty for the sake of being shitty. If you were posting in a place where you couldn't say what you were saying, the conversation probably wouldn't be where you're saying that now (or your staff just gets high on drama, entwine 0).
