When I play a deck that spams tokens, I like to have 2 showing tapped and untapped states and a die on top showing how many there are of that kind. It's a bit of mental gymnastics but cuts down on board clutter.
That's what I usually do.

Quick question: At a GP or PTQ, do you have to have tokens for say like Elspeth's soldiers or can you use dice?
As long as you and the opponent agree, you can track tokens however you like so long as game state can determined visually.
Thank you
sir. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to track down a bunch of soldier tokens.

Probably for the same reason you think NGE was brilliant.

I've watched so much random anime that I don't even remember most of it. The ones that I do are therefore probably the best.
  • Trigun
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Fullmetal Alchemist
  • Samurai Champloo
Going through the list at Funimation, some that I think I watched but don't really remember at all:
  • Aquarion
  • Black Blood Brothers
  • Claymore
  • Dance in the Vampire Bund (what?)
  • Darker Than Black
  • Devil May Cry (huge fan of the
    game, probably watched this)
  • Eureka Seven
  • FLCL
  • Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom (this one I actually do remember, it was good)
  • Speed Grapher
  • Trinity Blood
I've come to find out that there's four things that almost always means an anime will be absolutely horrible

1. It's set in a school.
2. The protagonists are children.
3. The protagonist is clearly a Mary Sue.
4. The title is random garbage and/or couldn't be bothered to have an English translation

It's pretty easy to use these rules to spot garbage. To demonstrate, I will bold exactly where in the following synopses that you should first be able to tell that this series blows. There is no point in reading past the bold parts because you have all of the information about how much the series sucks already.

Fairy Tale
"When [b:
1la31ayi]four young wizards[/b] team up to take jobs across the kingdom, they forge a bond more powerful than any magic and grow stronger with every mission."

Heaven's Lost Property
"Girl-crazy Tomoki's quiet life gets turned upside down when beautiful, winged Ikaros falls from the sky -- and starts calling him master."

Soul Eater
"Maka and the other students at the Death Weapon Meister Academy must kill 99 evil humans and one witch, absorbing their spirits when they die."

Okami-san and Her Seven Companions
"Ryoko and her friends form Otogi Bank, a social club that specializes in resolving issues for classmates using some rather aggressive tactics."

Rosario + Vampire
"When Tsukune accidentally enrolls in a school for monsters disguised as humans,
he must hide the fact that he's really human or risk losing his life."

My Bride is a Mermaid
"After a cute mermaid saves him from drowning, a young man agrees to marry his rescuer to avoid the wrath of her father."

Chrome Shelled Regios
"A talented but mysterious young fighter named Layfon uses his skills to battle the Contaminoids, an alien race that now rules the planet."

B Gata H Kei - Yamada's First Time
"Yamada is the cutest girl in school, and she wants to have her way with 100 different boys. There's just one problem: She's never even been kissed! Dear god, why are you still reading this?!"

Use this power wisely.
Soul Eater is actually good.

I just won a cube draft with mono-red at my local store. I'm so confident that red is underdrafted that i started with first pick fireblast. Then the second booster has goblin guide and lightning bolt.... i pick lightning bolt because I think no one may be interested in goblin guide, and in fact it tables. Needless to say that i had pretty much everything.... Next time i'll switch deck though, because someone could realize mono-red is strong and start counterpicking.

When I say "cool" I mean cool as in the s of being in Middle or Junior high school. The pressure that not everything is considered normal and acceptable. Anime and such wasn't very cool, so i had to drop it.

So, after 2 days of playing Hearthstone -- minor introduction and opinion on the game.

- You can play it for free, if you are okay with slowly sculpting a deck of your dreams. Especially if you feel well at Arena (Draft) as after 7 games won you gain a pass for another one.
- This is how technically Modo should look like. Matchmaking queue works fast as hell. Everything is just... so nice and easy to use. This game is a technical gem.
- Draft costs 2 dollars here, you don't get the cards you have drafted but a reward based on your score (you're playing to up to 3 lossess). I won 5 games and got 210 gold (110 + Booster for 100). You don't even need to play whole draft at once, you can just play games when you have time for that.
- Deckbuilding looks pretty boring. I mean, cardpool wasn't there yet (I'm playing 2 days, so I can't blame anyone for that) but decks seem to be homogenized as
fuck. Everyone has some kind of removal, access to both early beaters and lategame cows. The main difference between classes is access to a power usable per round for 2 mana. So if you loved refined deckbuilding of MTG, you might be a bit disappointed.
- On the other hand game feels so... cool to play. Cards combo with each other a lot. Combat system after a little bit of mind stretching is really fine. And Blizzard actually found a way to remove any kind of unfair advantages of "starting first" - you get a bonus draw and a token that you can use to get additional mana. And there's NO MANA SCREW as you just gain 1 land per turn (unless you have something to accelerate that).
- I can easily see how and when I loose games without any possibility of mana screw. Whenever I lost, I knew what mistakes I have done - and that's something beautifull.

Personal opinion: this is the future of card games. And it looks damn fantastic.

My biggest problem with Hearthstone is every time i try to play it I wish i was playing magic and stop caring.

Plus the grind to get the cards you want for constructed is awful. No way to buy or obtain singles in a reasonable amount of time.

I will agree the client is nice and functional though, and it looks pretty. I also like how creature based it is from what I can tell.

Hearthstone existing should put pressure on MTGO to be improved, so I like it from that perspective.

Hey, lack of second-market is required in this game for two reasons:
- to let Blizzard earn their money while keeping the game free
- to stop this game from being pay2win (like to some extenct, MTG is).
Fact of it being more grindy, less cashy is a good and bad thing. Easier when you are budgcaj, harder if you want to go pro from the start and you don't have time for this bullshit.

@hamfactorial
I don't think that will help anything. It's hard to beat up Blizzard on their ground. I'd rather say Modo will get budget cut and Wizards will focus on paper magic while not giving a fuck about online.

Yep, that is my biggest problem with the game.

Love the game, but fuck grinding.

Not having a proper deck building element is a huge cap on the skill requires to play. I find that unspealing, but hell, ill follow the money.

Yeah, I just don't like having to grind with a shitty 'fake' deck 'cause I don't have all the cards until I do. While magic being a TCG isn't ideal for a competitive game (ideally everyone would be on even footing and have equal access to cards so only technical play and deckbuilding matter) but MtG is a good enough game I'm willing to pay the money
needed to play it. Plus if you're smart/good you can minimize the impact the game has on your wallet.

Hearthstone seems like a genuinely interesting game but the idea of having to grind for god knows how long to even be able to try the deck I want to play is...not appealing.

On the plus side drafting in Hearthstone seems like it could be cool but I don't get to play my favorite class when I want to (rogue, you can actually build Tempo decks with her.) which is a huge downside for me.

Deckbuilding still has it quirks in terms of balancing the deck's curve - but there's much less difference between decks than in MTG. Control/Aggro matchup here is completely different than Control/Aggro in MTG where decks with completely different philosophy duke it out.

I remember the other day I saw a modified Jace Architect for $40ish, with shipping costing more than it. I can't seem to find his stuff on ebay anymore, but he had a lot of modified cards drawn into bad half naked generic anime characters.

when i draw 1 non land spell over 8 turns game 2, don't bitch at me for running a shitty 3 color midrange deck and not get your red sources for anger of the gods game 3. Thats what you get for running anger and hero's downfall and underworld connections in the same deck you stupid greedy fuck.

On all time accomplishment it's CFB by a lot; but a few CFB players have had very quiet years (eg: LSV and PV).

I will say this, CFB is a joy to work for and all of the team are supportive and helpful. They actually care. My experience with other teams and websites is pretty much the opposite.

Posted: Thu Jan 30, 2014 7:05 am
by LP, of the Fires
It's a cycle thing in my opinion.

LSV and PV are 2 of the 10 best players of all time(maybe top 5?) and they've been in slumps.

Finkel and Kai are the 2 best players of all time and they aren't.

Ben Stark and Reid Duke are currently the two best players in the game. Everything in the middle's a coin flip. The pat coxes, sperlings, Conleys etc. of the world that are all pros, but not hall of fame caliber pros.

Posted: Thu Jan 30, 2014 7:06 am
by zemanjaski
Are Finkel and Kai jumping to CFB? I didn't think so.
