there's a profound disappointment that comes with reading a "classic" book that turns out to be boring

This is true. David Copperfield is among the worst books ever written. Lord of the Rings also qualifies.

C'mon. I just finished forcing myself to read it. The only time I enjoyed myself was that battle at Minas Tirith. Everything else was more world building than plot. And then that crap at the end with Saruman taking over the Shire? Seriously, WTF.

or i'll just replace every boring part of the LotR series when Tolkien goes on for twenty pages about something irrelevant that happened in Middle Earth two hundred years before the story started with sex scenes

also Sauron may be the most one dimensional villain ever

Thank you! I failed to finish the first book on three occasions before I recently just decided to get it done. I read four other books while slogging through it to keep me sane.

The Hobbit was better, yes. Unless you're talking about the movie. Then it was the boring one.

And now, you have A Game of Thrones.

N_S what European films can I easily repackage for a dumbed down American audience?
Sorry but Hollywood's been repackaging French movies for decades already, you came late to the party.

Just relax, Dan. Relax. I know they've just systematically all revealed themselves to be a bunch of gibbering orangutans who wouldn't know a real story if they were... oh crap, you better take your heart medication, there ya go, damn caps what if I were trying to stave off a heart attack whoever designed these things is a moron.... there, now relax. You need to hang on, remember you need to continue researching these people for your thesis, you can get through this.

You are... certainly... entitled to your... opinions. *shit-eating grin*

you try not being uppity when every time you go to a tournament someone calls you a derogatory name and tells you to suck his dick and no one says anything and instead everyone has a good laugh about it except you.

"My cousin had to deal with something like this when she tried to join Seattle's lesbian chorus and was rebuffed by some closedminded LGBT women(not just lesbians!). I hope the Lady Planeswalker Society is accepting and inclusive!"

the classic trans-m2f-lesbian play.

i think 99% of trans inter-personal relations snaffus come from trans people not realizing they represent less than 1% of people and that being so far out of the norm are completely alien to most people but in the most low-bar and potentially insulting examples, and that taking offense because literally you are an alien to other people who represent the other gross majority of humanity and who don't spend all day in shared interest and lifestyle circles don't speak your alien language doesn't really help bridge that gap.

telling someone who has built a small community around "we're all women playing games because a lot of guys are fucking shitdicks and we need to have a little support because we're pretty isolated individually" that you have a penis but are totally a chick for real i swear and then being mad when they're not on your train kind of sucks but also forgets that they have their own experiences and
are living breathing humans who are not you and don't know your story and you're not actually the solar wind blowing nuclear radiation through their individual lithospheres and they don't owe you the time of day to sit down and learn about the 7 1/2 years you spent at oberlin "really figuring out who i was, you know?" it's very arrogant to assume as much.

Posted: Wed Jul 24, 2013 4:59 pm
by Thrillho
i think if people who do things that are pretty far out of the norm and are usually not well represented in the media should take a little time to explain that they're really not aliens but also recognize the fact that no one owes you the time of day to take a crash course in gender binaries/race history/whatever else.

really just being like "i have a dick but am wearing a dress and am really feeling this dress and i feel kind of oppressed about people shitting in my mouth too" would be a good starting point when trying to enter the casual gaming equivalent of a women's support group.

Posted: Wed Jul 24, 2013 5:02 pm
by Thrillho
i've never needed a support group though so what the fuck would i know i just am a living breathing human who understands that i have experiences that other people don't and it's rude to assume other people know about them.

"The issue I see here is that it seems to be "all women and also non-jerk guys", as opposed to "non-jerk guys and gals". Doesn't that seem a tad bit discriminatory to you?

Unless you mean to imply it's impossible for women to be jerks?"

I bet this poster would label himself as a "nice guy."

"MTGS has become a more accepting place over the years. I've known more than a few trans people who were run out of town(and banned from the forum!) for being outspoken about who they were and what they stood for. Now that sort of thing wouldn't be tolerated."
Guess which poster said this and I'll give you a banana THIIIIIIIIS big.
