We've done some things right. We have a good and memorable site name, and you guys has drilled it into people's heads in Salvation posts, sigs and CFB comments. People visit, to see what it's about. Even the pros have at least stopped in. So what do they see? A lot of laughing and absurdity, which is good. Being the 4chan of Magic is acceptable. Otherwise, not much. Red aggro sucks right now, so nobody wants to see endless red decks. Being a clone of MtGs without all the activity isn't great either. Posting only in this thread isn't helping, nobody cares about forum clans.
Getting people to come is easy, getting people to stay is not. Most people don't wan to join a forum, they want to visit a site. If we were CFB's official forum, that would be one thing. But just posting primers and deck lists isn't what it used to be, people would rather use the 4-0 Daily lists than read FNM results.

Zem, bashing Vexing Devil twice in one article and then blowing off a comment by a player 100x better than you just makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about. If burn ever becomes a thing in Modern, that card will probably be a 4-of. It's put up considerable numbers in Modern, more than a lot of cards you probably like more than it. I would dredge up results for you, but I know you and everyone else here will just cover your eyes and ears and try to drown out whatever disagrees with your opinion.
Philip Yam knows his shit. When someone of that caliber puts statistics in front of you refuting your point, you can't just say, "no." Being "right" doesn't work like that.
When i mentioned vexing devil you
all seem to consider me an idiot. Well, the card was unplayable in standard, but is ok in burn (just modern, legacy has many better options).
And i really don't know why in a forum of red mages everyone seem to think that burn sucks. Burn doesn't suck , burn is just burn. It is a high variance archetype so pro players don't play it, but it is very powerful. In legacy is risky to play it because you can face too many decks that win by turn 3, but in modern:
- shocklands help you kill the opponent
- combo decks don't win before turn 4 so you can realistically race them
- you can splash all colors (no price of progress,no wasteland) so you have sideboard options for everything
Probably you won't win if you face something like double finks or double helix (and even then you have skullcrack), otherwise the deck is fine. And it is in the proven section of modern decks in mtgs since a lot of time, so i don't know why you say burn isn't a thing in modern.
If they reprinted sulfuric vortex in
modern burn would be one of the best decks in my opinion.

Is your inexplicable hatred of such a benign phrase some sort of inside joke that I'm not privy to?

Why the hell to people tilt when they lose on Cockatrice? It doesn't count for anything! The worse thing that can happen is I save the replay and chuckle to myself about it later.

That's actually worse for you. Tilting lowers your performance; you make more mistakes. Tilting when it matters means you're fucking yourself up when there's money on the line.

It's an esteem issue. They see each loss as a reflection on them and take it personally. If they lose, they seem themselves as losers. It doesn't matter if it's a causal or competitive game. Their esteem is tied to winning and losing at the game.

I read an essay about something similar not long ago. Can't remember where. It basically theorized that you can generalize the population into two basic mindsets; fixed and growth. One of the traits of a fixed mindset is the belief that their intelligence is static, they are all they're ever going to be, and that's just the hand they were dealt. Which leads to constantly feeling like they have something to prove. Because if their ability is static they'd better show off how much it counts. (Compared to
a growth mindset, in which people believe their intelligence can be developed, which leads to higher levels of achievement.)
Being pissed off that you didn't win the money is different, though. That's just normal for when you want the money and then don't get it.
