Is mogg fanatic actually good? Or could it be replaced? Going to try to get some testing in with my team tomorrow.
My favorite 1-drop currently.

Very good. Being able to swing then ping off many x/1s is solid. Also can provide the extra little damage needed to win.

If you don't have the fetches, probably a lot, but certainly cheaper than most decks. The expensive cards are Guide, Devil, Blood Moon, and fetches.

Normally I would say you could forgo fetches especially in a red deck build BUT fetches I found are pretty integral to powering up Grim Lavamancer. It goes without saying that it makes Searing Blaze a beast too though. Without fetches Grim Lavamancer is playable but is weakened.

Fetches are mandatory for this deck.

Agree. Deck is unplayable as is without fetches and you'd have to completely retool it to have an inferior probably tier 3 deck.

If fetches where a barrier, I'd say you'd probably have to settle for mono-red burn which I'm loath to suggest to anyone that cares about winning.

This deck is surprisingly good. You have bit of a problem with Goyf (more Dismembers might be good, I think it's worth trying one in the main for a Searing Blaze), but Molten Rain make most Goyf decks more than beatable when you're on the play.

I have fetches IRL, but you're right, not looking to buy them on modo.

On the Jund Matchup:

It's pretty awkward honestly. Eidolon being an enchantment makes goyf to damn big, if they're on coursers, they stretch your dismembers post board, and I've lost a handful of games wtih blood moon lock in affect do to them having a single forest and drawing a 7/8 goyf making my dismember look silly.

You basically have to apply a LOT of pressure and try to not fall into the attrition game. On the draw, all your mana denial is pretty lackluster, on the play, I'd be tempted to aggressively mull into molten rain because it's a BIG deal when you have the initiative. The real unfortunate thing is all their creatures are must kill. Post board they just board out goyf and their creature line-up includes Scooze, 4/5 or better goys, and courser of kruphix, all of which are either stonewalling your dudes, gaining life, and/or 2-4-1s which is super gay. On the plus side, there's a lot of room for your
opponent to board incorrectly and/or not have the proper sideboard cards to win this matchup. The jund deck in my guantlet has Bow of Nylea, engineered explosives, and golgari charm in addition to cheaper removal and more liliana :/

MTGOGOLDFISH (which Lazerburn mention too you earlier in the clan thread).

That said with Moons and fetches with will be rather expensive (cheaper then most other Modern decks or Paper but still expensive) if you want to play cheap Red and win you'll need to play legacy (it will cost you $82 at most) and it is at least rank 4th place in winnings.

Well.... I guess Urza Tron Mono Red in pauper is ok as well (it cost $11) but echoing Z, if you enjoy to wining you almost have no reason not too play Mono U Control in that format.

Which format?

If its Modern LP, Khaos, Nerd and Lazer would have more experience (I never really recovered from the DRS banning (yet))

If it Pauper: Z is the best man to ask, (this is another format which wasn't really the same for me post banning (I like playing against 8post (lol)))

If its Standard: I can help you with that (I'm almost done with my QP quota and I believe Lazer isn't playing his standard deck right now either) so we should be able to get lead you the whole deck :p.

If its Legacy: I think I'll be testing this myself next week :) or Modern depend on whatever juicy information I can gain from this thread

Played around with my list, arrived at the following -

[deck]Modern Red[/deck]

No more trouble with goyf and friends once Basilisk Collar gets attached to one of the 16 creatures who can damage creatures.

Put KDL in instead of FoD since the land count is low.

Didn't lose a match in testing (played UWR, Affinity, Pod, Jund and some bad homebrews).

Needs tweaking but felt powerful.

@LD - hit me up on MTGO - I have all the important decks on there (important = runs Mountains :D) and am happy to lend you cards. All of us are happy to lend you cards! :) Then you can simply play the list and either win lots and buy it yourself or decide it's a pile :)

In Legacy Red Burn is playable right now, thanks to Eidolon :)

In Modern Red Burn is playable as it can simply snag free wins but RDW is a MUCH better deck :)

If I wanted to build up tix on a budget I'd either borrow a deck from us or play MonoU in
Pauper (which I think Z said he'd lend ya?)

Esp: "If I wanted to build up tix on a budget I'd either borrow a deck from us or play MonoU in Pauper (which I think Z said he'd lend ya?)" borrowing cards is the king of budget options because it is free ;-)

Don't mind buying a deck, just trying to figure out what the logical starting point is for me. I have a big modern tournament next weekend, and I'm not sure what to play. Hopefully get more testing in tonight.

Yeah, I always start with 4 of everything when I brew and then adjust the numbers as I get more games in.

I have BW tokens, Bump + Burn, Kiki Control, and Heal's RDW ready in paper. Just not sure what to play. The tournament is a paper tournament, but I'm looking for a place to jump into modo too.

Keith, just play Heal's list.

You're welcome.

If you only have limited experience with all of those, I suggest playing Heal's list. It's probably the safest of all the decks in terms of unfamiliarity. Play a strategy you are comfortable playing.

This is the best (well, pretty much the only playable) red deck that I've ever seen in Modern. It can fucking fight. And, since it's RDW, I know it like the back of my hand. That is what you need in a deck when you're playing a non-rotaing format. Familiarity. If I owned 8 fetches, I'd build it myself, but alas, I do not. Keith, you've been playing RDW in standard for a longer time and against much stiffer competition than I have and also have the resources to build it, so I say, by all means, go for it.
