Seems to be a good weekend clan wide, just wish I wasn't working tonight :( mardi gras this weekend, and I'm going to spend it mostly sober (I can't bring myself to get drunk before work, I may not have much of a moral code, but what little I have is inviolable). There's stuff tomorrow, but not as much, will probably end up playing standard for gameday high instead of staggering around downtown drunk off my ass wearing enough beads to build appreciable neck muscles.

Heading to a wedding now, but I did have enough time to get 4 promo Pain Seers and a playmat I'll never use.

Btw, even though I hate foils, that Pain Seer is fuckdiculously awesome.

I just remember that it was some old guy that
muttered," I've never been happy."

I watched it happen when he shuffled. He went to grab his third pile and some slipped. He just scooped them in and didn't pay attention to the direction.

I fucking saw it.

Awww Z.... Shuffling your sideboard in upside down is a pretty classic mistake. That's the problem with playing too much MTGO. Seems like the judges made the right call and he'll move forward from here. No sweat. Shake it off and win out.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a random pile of cards. That might not have been a game loss. Every upside down card I saw was an SB card (firedrinker, viashino)

... There's a pretty big opportunity to cheat if you're allowed to shuffle your sb in upside down. This is obviously a mistake, but there's a good reason that the rule exists. I'm sure Z isn't thinking that he shouldn't have gotten that game loss.

Nothing could have sucked more than that. James is screwed in both directions, because it's the nature of weak-minded people to always question the "perception of deception". That rule is complete and utter bullshit as the outcome now colors everything that follows, and James is going to have to listen to/read that shit over and again. It's just wrong.

James, if you're still on, let the shit go and do what you always do--push through. Feed the shit back to them by playing your game...you did no wrong beyond being a fallible human being.

Huey Jensen recently beat my friend in a GP Vancouver bubble match. My friend asked Huey what would happened if he used domri to fight a ghor-clan rampager against huey's 3/4 Archangel of thune, asking if the life gain would save the archangel. Huey stonefaces, and says, "The archangel trigger happens." That's technically true. the trigger happens, but the archangel dies before it's pumped. Some would call that scummy, but it doesn't really matter what people call it. My friend should've called a judge and gotten the full explanation.

The thing is, Maverick is right. Rules sharking the red tape is a huge way that pros stay pros. The important thing now is to not go on tilt, to play with the same steadiness and confidence he's played with all tournament. In the long run, this game loss is not a big deal at all. If the weak-minded make it more of a big deal than it is, well fuck them. They don't matter.

What happened?
From what I gather from a cursory scan on my lunch, James got a Game Loss for accidentally shuffling his SB cards in upside-down?

It's cool. Just as a master swordsman duels with his off-hand for a more fair fight, this issue will serve to be nothing more than a handicap to give the other plebes false hope.

Is it against the rules for your deck to just be half upside down if what is upside down is random? As in I cut my deck to suffle one half in upside down, and just keep suffling that way so cards are going every which way, all willy nilly.

That was such an awesome game too. I really want to know how it would shake out. His opponent on 7, with a 7 counter jace and an azorius charm in hand along with other unknown cards. James taps 3 for viashino with phoenix on board, leaving up mountain and vault. Not sure of james whole hand, but he had boros charm in hand and i think he left 1 on top with scry. he had 1-3 other cards I think.

Darthsaber: I don't think that's illegal because it's intrinsically unmarked. I have opponents shuffle my deck like that all the time, and the worst it is is annoying. I'm pretty sure a judge would stop the game, fix the cards and continue.
