I love how people are like "OMG I'm so glad my opponent can't turn City Of Brass against me this card is so good!"
...seriously, does that happen in Real Magic? I feel like this isn't going to change anything. Decks that wanted City will play this instead, decks that didn't want City aren't going to change.
City of Brass getting tapped by opponents in upkeep has been a historical drawback. Icy Manipulator in the old days and Rishadan Port in the new days. Plus the much more frequent tap shenanigans that might happen in any given block or standard.
If this were City of Brass and Tamiyo were in M15, it would be annoying. Not hugely relevant, but annoying.
Taking out the drawback is really cool.

as to your other point, "the decks that want to play this will play this."
okay? and that shouldn't excite people why?

New City makes the Aggro shells that were possible with the m10 lands viable again. With 8 ETB untapped lands that can produce your main and off color you can do a lot more than with only 4 - Dos Rakis, here I come.

City of Brass has some upside though. You can respond to the damage trigger with a spell, so a Lightning Bolt can still kill your opponent when you're at 1.

I heard City of Brass was good, so lets print a version that's strictly better
Didn't Wizards say they were going to stray away from multicolor after RtR? I guess they lied
how is it strictly better? Seems like functional reprint to me.

...I was making fun of the Sally thread which is basically heralding this card as the Greatest Thing Ever because Every Deck will play 4?

It's strictly better because someone casting
Twiddle on this version won't hurt you. So, yeah, it's basically a functional reprint, but technically strictly better because it doesn't have that extremely insignificant downside.

Indeed.

Well...this new version causes life loss and City of Brass causes damage. Damage is more easily prevented, so there's that difference as well. Not that it matters for practical purposes.

[card]Urza's Armor[/card] combo!! These cards are clearly not comparable in the slightest.

Technically City of Brass is "strictly" better in the sense that you can still activate it while under the effect of [card]Angel's Grace[/card] or
Phyrexian Unlife. Paying life is part of the activation cost. If you cannot pay the cost, the ability cannot go on the stack. Not the case with City of Brass.
I hate the terms "strictly better/worse" since Magic is such a huge game that it is pretty much universally false given how many variables there could be.

In this case, it was wrongly applied, but it's not a terrible thing to say about Shock vs. Lightning Bolt (despite not being technically true thanks to Mindslaver).

Oh, Tappedout.net... What's it like to live in Christmasland? Ajani, Mentor of Heroes +1 to put 3 counters on Sage of Hours, double them by declaring attack with
Kalonian Hydra, then activate Sage for an extra turn. Lather, rinse, repeat to infinity. That's even better than the time they said Standard was broken because of
Duskmantle Guildmage, double activation on the first ability, then
Jace, Memory Adept +0 to mill ten, deal 20.

If they released Hearthstone for Android so I could play it on my Transformer I may just be motivated enough to play it.

God that Cardboard Crack from Wednesday is so accurate for me today. 3-1 tonight with an untested UWr deck. Cast my first Rev and DSphere in sanctioned play today. It felt so awkward. At least I got to confuse most of my opponents when they saw me lay a UW Temple on T1 when they kept anti-burn hands.

I won a Phantom Sealed event. Yay! Basically swapped between RW and RU decks depending on what I was playing against. I'm starting to like Sealed more and more.

I am in sticker shock at cost of paper magic. MFW type shock. My total expenditures for going to the SCG open on a whim, taught me that doing that shit on a whim is a bad idea. For the amount I was going to spend I could have almost bought that playstation 4.
Mutavaults= 30 - 45 dollars
Shock lands? 10 each
scry lands? 6 each
I make pretty decent money, but the thought that the cost of mutavaults being more than most of the other cards in the deck. . . is obnoxious. Sorry quick rant.
Regular scheduled programming in 3...2...1.
(gayness begins with the next poster.)

So a control player was talking crap about burn decks how it requires no thought to win against control earlier in the week. The red player that won the event bet with him to trade decks and see how well he would do playing burn at FNM tonight.
He went 2-4, losing all his 3 matches against control. The burn player playing his control deck went 5-0-1.
Edit: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY

GOTCHA!
But yeah So i go to buying cards and the guy selling says
Card guy:"I'm on junk, myself"
Me: Junk huh? Why not just B/w?
Card guy: "I like the power of some of the green cards'
Me:: "Huh. I can see that I guess. *shrug* I'm volleying on burn, and aggro"
CG: "Ah I don't like burn because its, "No offense"
pretty mindless"
M_V: "Yeah its pretty easy managing all those overly powerful cards they're running"

I haven't been playing standard due to the price of Mutavault. I have either Esper or UW control made but I can't afford the mutavaults to make it win.

by LP, of the Fires
You only need 2, if any mutavaults. It's reasonable to play esper with zero and all the scrylands instead.

i thought about running esper without the mutas. i still may, actually.
