Surrender is not a good option it would seem.
Never comply with anyone, you might get shot in the dick.
Have you guys played this "day-z" before?
Yea I have
it's baaaaaad
last time I checked (was like a year ago) it was riddled with bugs, had terrible support from the company (you even get bullied off the forums by them if you dare complain about anything), ... The only thing working properly was the cash shop! Ha!
You're thinking of War Z, and youre right, that game was pure shit. Day Z doesn't have a micro transaction shop, it's an arma 2 mod.

Just finished book 7 of Dresden files (Dead Beat).
There is an appropriate meme:
"You cast animate dead on WHAT?"
"And then I use it as a mount."

Well, I now officially have a reason to get my ass in gear and up my game...my lady and I are locked in for the Magic Cruise next March. We backed the kickstarter for Foretold: Rise of a God at the Divinity level to score a room on the cruise while helping out the game designers, so time to get my head firmly back in some Magic. The format since rotation has been rather "blah" to me...which is really strange because I generally love playing black-based control. But Journey looks to be shaking things up a bit, so it be time to get back in the groove.

Playing in a legacy event tomorrow. My entire main deck is foil except for four cards and my entire side board non-foil. Do you think I can get away with that? I'll try to foil out the SB, but it is a lower priority. Thoughts?
Should be fine. Double sleeve if you're
that worried about it. KMCs inside of Dragon Shields make it pretty much impossible to tell the difference between foil and non foil.

I thought you were more of a black-based aggro kind of guy.
Regardless, I have brews on both ends of the spectrum you may be interested in.

Happy birthday, lorddax!
This thread has slowed down significantly.
My GR deck got nothing to play with in JOU, but BR or even mono black aggro seem quite exciting.

Yeah, it's been kinda slow around here, Val. I must admit that job and band practice has been eating up most of my time. I haven't even played Magic in a few weeks.
I'm hella excited about my show this Sunday. I should find a way to record it.
Also, happy birthday, dax, you fuckstick.

I am sure a lot of it is the lull that happens between sets, especially in formats like the current Standard.

I feel so disconnected when you guys talk about Standard. I've been balls deep in Modern since ISD rotated, and I've lost the ability to play with marginal overcosted cards
inb4 I get trolled about Legacy being better

Legacy is pretty difficult to play on MODO though due to so few people actually playing it.

I would hardly call speaking the truth trolling but I guess it is a matter of preference. It is very true that Legacy is hard to get into. All these promos released with the MOCS and whatnot have at least been helping with Legacy proliferation online but they do really need to do another set of Master's Edition drafts to keep things going.
I am on record as not being a fan of Modern. I play Standard simply because that is what most everyone else plays.

Given that you're not a Modern fan, I'll thank you extra for tuning into my streams every Saturday morning

Not being a fan doesn't change the fact that it is a major format that I have to stay on top of. You are also a good deal more entertaining than all the Mono B and UW matchups on SCG that early in the morning.

What about Modern do you dislike? I would probably enjoy Legacy if I had the card pool to brew and play in it. I also enjoy playing Pauper, but I haven't played a match since they removed the dailies.

I play Legacy because Hymn to Tourach.
That and my clerics are only Legacy legal.
Soon as they reprint Hymn, I'll be in Standard for the duration, then Modern.

Skyrocketing prices give it nearly the expense of Legacy without being able to do all the cool and powerful things that Legacy does. It used to be all boring grindy midrange and is even worse now that it is nothing but combo and things to fight it. Seemingly random bans that rarely do what WotC says they want to do with the format.
In short, it has all the downsides of Standard, all the downsides of Legacy, and very few of the benefits of either.
They will never reprint Hymn. I think they are regretting reprinting Thoughtseize and Hymn is miles worse.

Agreed about the Modern prices being out of control. I bought my fetches 2 years ago, but if I had to start now I'd be hurting.
My only gripe with Legacy is that everything is so fast, my favorite archetype (aggro midrange) isn't viable.
Unless it is?

Everything is viable if you have the right hosers.
I play a $150 jank Clerics list. It's mono-B control with a sprinkling of graveyard hate in the main deck. Discard lets me deal with fast combo, Jitte lets me deal with aggro (and some hate in the sideboard), and I've got even more graveyard hate in the sideboard for dredge shenanigans.

There are some Jund decks that would likely qualify as aggro midrange. Other options I could see would be Maverick, Merfolk, Goblins or Death and Taxes.

I won a box of Gatecrash against Combo Elves, CounterTop, and BUG Delver.
Sure, that one event could be an outlier. But I'm happy with my cheap ass list and it's fun. If I want to actually go competitive, I'll get Bob's and Lili's.

I've always enjoyed modern as a format despite considering it the worst overall of the big three, but now I actually think modern is just as if not more compelling then standard for the greater illusion of diversity in the format. Like, there's still a short list of 4 decks I'd play to win a tournament(same as standard really), but it certainly FEELS a lot more open now without every deck playing deathrite shaman and storm being close to tier 1 makes my heart sing.
Having said all that, I will NOT be happy trying to figure out who I can borrow cards from come modern PTQ season as i'd probably want to play Tempo twin or something but 100 dollar fetches and million dollar goyfs are not happening for this guy.

I like the [mana]WRB[/mana] wedge, so I'd tend towards DnT as a starting point. I'm going to sell off my paper Snapcaster Mages when they get to $40, which should let me buy into a handful of the Legacy fetches and maybe a few duals. The digital versions are reasonably priced, which cannot be said for paper.
After playing with a real list, I'll probably get bored and start brewing, lose a lot for a while, then claw my way to 50%

I don't know if it's still around, but there used to be a dega deck in legacy called team italia.
It was basically stoneblade with dark confidant, lingering souls and lightning bolt.

I'm of the opinion that
Eidolon of the Great Revel could change the face of red decks in Legacy. Maybe a shift away from burn and toward more creature-centric strategies?

I don't think it will change all that much. We have had that ability in Pyrostatic Pillar for a long time now. I
will likely change mine out for Eidolons for the added pressure but I don't think it will change all that much.

Fair enough. I personally play with penny sleeves outside of my dragon shields, inside of toploaders. To put my opponent on maximum tilt.

You mean a reddit thread? I can't find any post you've made here regarding RG strats.
I've been posting recently about a Ross-inspired RG aggro deck in the RDW thread, but I'm also considering a shift back to RG Monsters with a slightly more aggressive take.
This is the Ross list I'm playing on MODO:

Journey into Nyx has made me pretty set in my want to play UW tempo. I thought Esper Humans was sweet but UW does sweeter stuff. (Like play [card]Profit // Loss[/card], which is a megasweet card) I like decks where my opponent can say "Okay, I go to five" and I get to retort with "Actually go to dead?"

Happy spirit journey formation anniversary lorddax!
On the subject of Dresden, does anyone else have Liliana Vess as their mental image for Mab? And as of Cold Days she's my favorite character (replacing either Micheal Carpenter and Toot-Toot).

I like Warhound quite a bit since it can chain off Emissary and can also buff dudes, which is great with Fanatic of Xenagos and Ghor-Clan Rampager.
This is probably the one deck that can actually get away with running four Mana Confluence. I see all these BR brews with four of them and Pain Seer and Herald of Torment and
Thoughtseize and it just makes me cringe.
Also I take after Ross in really liking Armed / Dangerous. It adds a certain combo element to the deck that attacks from angles many players aren't prepared for.

I know I will likely be on URw myself next week. I want to play a tempo/midrange game with Keranos but I might be better off starting with a control shell. I need to cast as many Izzet Charm and Turn/Burn as I can while still legal.
This is my current iteration:
[deck]
Creatures (10)
4 Frostburn Weird
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Keranos, God of Storms
Instant/Sorcery (17)
4 Azorius Charm
2 Izzet Charm
4 Lightning
Strike
4 Warleader's Helix
3 Turn // Burn
Enchantments (5)
1 Detention Sphere
2 Banishing Light
2 Assemble the Legion
Planeswalkers (5)
3 Ral Zarek
2 Jace, Architect of Thought
Lands (23)
4 Steam Vents
3 Hallowed Fountain
3 Sacred Foundry
3 Temple of Enlightenment
4 Temple of Epiphany
3 Temple of Triumph
3 Mutavault
Sideboard
3 Boros Charm
4 Counterflux
2 Wear // Tear
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Anger of the Gods
2 Blind Obedience[/deck]
