Does anyone else ever find themselves putting command tower in monocolor decks out of habit and not realizing until the end that it is contextually worse than a basic?
No. I don't have many Command Tower cards, so they only end up in three color decks for me.
I only own 3 (power hungry, mind seize, eternal bargain), but I build decks on essential magic before I start digging for cardboard so that limit is never even remotely on my mind, nor is the fact that I only own 4 [card]sol ring[/
card]s, 1 [card]nevinyrral's disk[/card], or very few of certain other cards that are already in use in decks I have no intention of taking apart or even taking parts from.
Pet peeve #135: when people call mono blue devotion MUD. :)

I probably cringe the way Zem does when someone says "mainboard".
Mono Blue Control has been "MUC" for as long as people have been playing it, replace "control" with "devotion" and how is anyone going to call it anything but "MUD"? It's a pronounceable abbreviation, that is not a linguistic convention you are going to have any luck fighting. "Mainboard" is a peeve for which I feel more sympathy as "maindeck" is
accepted by the wider userbase.

Mainboarding is perfectly fine when done safely.

MUD is a completely unrelated legacy deck, i think that's where the hangup comes from

So does that stupid lifegain sheep worry anyone else in standard? It stops most aggro creatures cold, while moving them out of burn range pretty quickly. My best guess on how to get around it is either [card]titan's strength[/card] or rubblebelt maaka, but that seems like a stopgap, unless satyr hoplite becomes a one drop of choice, in which case I welcom our ewe enchantment overlords.

So my list of cards to acquire from JOU is pretty short. Something like 13 cards. Realistically, I will probably trim that list to 10 cards or less. This is honestly the first time I've ever been truly disappointed with a set.

The Strive cards are all pretty impressive. I was surprised.

Are we limiting ourselves to red here?

Madcap Skills
Destructive Revelry
Dreadbore
Feast of Dreams
Doom Blade
[card:
28l7lj1r]Ultimate Price[/card]
Chained to the Rocks
Revoke Existence
[card]Wear / Tear[/card]
Banishing Light

...and so on.

Really? This is easily the best set since RTR. It isn't as good as RTR, but WOTC really set the bar high with that expansion.

Lagonna-Band Trailblazer into Nyx-Fleece Ram will stop most aggro strategies. From there, they can Voltron something up and just go.

If this really becomes a thing, my GR Monsters deck sits waiting and licking its chops.

Mono Black Devotion and UWx Control sure wouldn't mind it, either. I just don't see it being a viable strategy. There's just not enough room in any conceivable 75-card list to do this and be even a t2 deck.

Yes, I am limiting myself to red here. I am already going to be spending money on flamespeaker prophets and eidolons of the great revel, plus some random one ofs for commander and given I am mostly living on disability and a shitty part time minimum wage job adding money lands is not an option for me. I'm not budgcaj, but I am budg at this juncture. If I need anything other than mountains and 2 mutavaults I will not be partaking mana wise.

So, maybe Fated Conflagration for the sheep? Other
than that, yeah, Titan's Strength or Rubblebelt Maaka.

Looks like it's Madcap Skills, [card]Dragon
Mantle[/card], and Everflame Eidolon for you then.

Re: Fated Conflagration, I'd hate spending four mana to kill a two mana wall.

So would I. I think Madcap or Maaka would be much better. Just more options...

That was the main talk of the weekend at pre-release. There has been several reddit posts about people opening them around the world this weekend.

My wife has a gluten intolerance, and we'd honestly rather just not eat at all than eat the shit gluten-free diets substitute for it. So we're trying paleo as well. So far, so good. I've learned that mashed sweet potato is an acceptable way to extend the life of ground beef.
