http://www.twitch.tv/scglive/b/540596603 My camera match for anyone that cares. I definitely misplayed twice in game 1 by playing the cackler(forgot about soldier triggers) and by not being patient waiting for a better alpha situation. I actually new he had brave the first time by him not attacking the prior turn and I suspected he had the second, but fatigue was setting in and I ignored my gut. Game 2, I probably played the second eidolon improperly since doing a little math would have showed that I locked myself out of the kill(had stomp in hand since turn 2) but I found the line of the chump attack and hoping he was mentally locked in to just pecking with birds
instead of making more aggressive attacks since he could have just alpha'd and wrathed my board. Game 3, as Sully said, gift of orzhova was an underwhelming sideboard card and a 3 drop would've been better, or he could have just played spear that turn and set up a big board but lucky he didn't and I capitalized.
I watched game one, and I agree that if you thought he had Brave the previous turn you should have stuck with your gut and rode the board state until you drew a couple more pump or burn spells. Playing Cackler also reduced your outs but it's hard to remember Soldier of the Pantheon's triggered ability.

Only decks is bad against are generally bad decks. Great match against all the tier one stuff.
It's terrible against every monsters variant and doesn't really do much against the non-splashing mono black variants. Those are real decks.

I have a hard time evaluating it since I've personally never seen a card like it. It's either really good or really bad, but I can see so much potential in it.

Its mostly likely a trashy "once in a Friday night magic" type card, but the late game possibilities are interesting.

I'm sure there's a powerful build with it somewhere, not sure about Standard though. Some cards that allows you to put lands into play? So something Red/Green.
Into the Wilds + other land fetchers?

I'm sure at some point there may be a way to make this card really good down the line, but with what we have and know right now it's unplayable.
I want it to be good though.

I guess it's not a real deck because you say it's not a real deck?
Do you not realize that the pilots of those Sligh decks had to fight through a field infested with Monsters and Black variants to take down those tournaments?
Dude, I really can't tell if you're trolling or serious.

I kinda see where Alex is coming from since It could just be a perspective thing, I know in my hands I'll perform horribly with decks like R Devotion or Boss Sligh (it doesn't mean I think they're bad decks because they're producing results for a reason) its just that they're bad for me.

Caryatid decks are actively good matchups for boss sligh. Y'all niggas smoking something.

By the time a Monsters deck can cast a fatty, they're usually within range of dying. Amiright, LP?

Correct. Their nut draw is some combination of dorks into 3 drop or 4 drop depending on if it's turn 1 mystic or turn 2 ramper.
If they block with caryatid, sometimes you can just kill it and manascrew them and if they don't there wall is just farseek and when they play there fatty, if it's not polukranos, they're still very far behind, and even if it is you either throw a massive salvo at them putting them into chump attack, pump spell range or you have a boardstate that lets you just kill a polukranos and leave them seriously on the rapes.
Sideboarding only gets worse because they have golgari charm and if they don't draw it, they've
effectively just boarded into what amounts to a slightly better mono-black control deck, maybe with nylea's disciple.

While I would be far from upset to see it back, I don't see it on any of the lists.
Sliver Hive is an odd addition unless they are giving us more slivers to play with this set.

Yeah, I'm not buying this "its not a deck thing" it seems disparaging in the way of "I don't like it so its not a deck"...
Its like alex hasn't been reading tom ross, OR paying attention to the opens. It's clearly established that its Damned good vs midrange. Infact, thats the reason for playing boss sligh.
So what I'm really wondering is... "What determines, if something is a deck"?

They are (from:
http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/ar ... 2014-06-23):
"Slivers!
What? Weren't Slivers M14's thing? Yes, they were, but I didn't want people who made Sliver decks in M14 to never get any new toys to play with. Because Slivers don't reside on Theros, M15 was the only other chance we had to get new Slivers into Standard alongside Galerider Sliver, Predatory Sliver, and the rest of the M14 crew. There is a cycle of five uncommons, many of which play well on their own and are devastating in
combination, as well as a new mythic rare Sliver that every Sliver aficionado has been waiting for."
Edit: I like how they mention Galerider and Predatory and lump the rest together. Those two are the only playable ones. This together with the art for Sliver Hive (which shows slivers with the old look) reads to me: Well, we screwed up the slivers a bit, let's try to fix it somewhat in M15.

Sligh has been a deck for the last 17+ years. There are times where it is the best deck and times where it is the worst deck. And for right now, as long as Mono Blue stays underwater (

), Sligh is a very good choice.

Actually Boss Sligh isn't even terrible against Mono Blue. Legion Loyalist is busted against that deck (almost every deck really).

They haven't said that officially, only that they are doing a cycle similar to the M13 Flinthoof Boar cycle except with the colors switched. So instead of having a green Flinthoof Boar with a bonus for controlling a Mountain, you get a red Ape thing with a bonus for controlling a Forest.

It is, but that doesn't mean they are reprinting it. In fact I'd put the odds of a Kird Ape reprint at 5%. It just seems too good based on the current Standard environment. They'll reprint Lightning Bolt before they reprint Kird Ape.
Or they could just reprint both...

Dude, I really can't tell if you're trolling or serious.
Being a flash in the pan doesn't make a deck real. It needs to do well consistently for me to acknowledge its existence. As it stands, I wouldn't even sideboard for it. And if the deck did get out of control, it basically loses to any deck playing Electrickery or Anger of the Gods, so...?
Tom Ross has been playing similar decks FOREVER, he forces them every time he enters a Standard tournament. He was going to have success eventually, he's a strong player. It doesn't mean the deck is great, it likely means he dodged bad matchups fairly well, (which is lucky and it does happen) and played against control variants all day long.
