It's the only EDH deck I'm aware of to have won with Battle of Wits.

Also, having an end-goal in mind for what decks you want is kind of a backwards way of looking at it, to me. The way usually works is that you discover a card you want to build a deck around, and you do it. About 6 packs of dragon shields later, you start to think you may have a problem.

Tajic is my second favorite general. It's just that no one likes it when I Obliterhaups.

Angelic Overseer is clutch, but more so was the heavy mana rock package I put together. There were days where a turn three Armageddon was the correct play.

I don't run a huge equipment package, though. I have Worldslayer and the hasteboots, but nothing to tutor for them.

I also put in a heavy dose of "You can't play the game the way you want to" things like Torpor and Winter Orbs, Stranglehold, and Meekstone.

I mean I heard someone here post something about sligh decks "You play the deck to run hot and win events". As if he was saying if you planned on a safe 100% money finish you would not play that deck. Is the idea that you would play a different deck for winning an event to placing well just too ridiculous or is there actual merit to the idea?

You should play more blue. It's probably the most fun color in EDH.

There's nothing wrong with playing blue, as long as you play UR Delver or UR Storm...

Blue in EDH doesn't have to be oppressive, though. The only hard counterspell my Riku deck plays is free. Mostly, I just like blue for the card draw. Fact or Fiction is really, really good.

I love my Riku deck so much. It's pretty much Kiki Pod, but it has more combos, plays green cards that hit like locomotive, and RIKU!

Favorite EDH lockdown card: Mana Maze.

I have mana slivers to help with the geddon/blood moon stuff. My deck is decent but not designed for hardcore competitive (casual format and all) but it certainly cost more than all my current competitive decks (Standard, Modern, and Legacy) combined.

Yeah, same thing happened to Pristaxcontrombmodruu. I spent more money on it than I want to think about. And yeah, totally not built to be competitive. I mean, come on. My main win condition is Enduring Ideal.

The creatures are relatively cheap. The expensive part is the whole "10 dual, 10 fetch, 10 shock" manabase

On the other topic, I've heard of playing a deck to top XX, but I always assumed winning the whole event was still the real goal. I suppose if you had to choose between a deck that was something like a 10% favorite to win but a 80% favorite to place and another deck that was 20% to win but only 40% to place then I could understand taking the one that had a much better chance of getting in the money... but I never really think about it like that. I just play what I'm most comfortable with or what I feel is over-all the best deck.
