I'm still an advocate for Imperial Painter, though, even though I'll never purchase the deck.

Just another blue deck

Why are you so averse to the color blue? There's only five colors to chose from, and ignoring one of them (the best one of them, even) severely limits your options as a competitive player.

i just don't enjoy blue. Or green. I limit myself to the other three colours because I enjoy them

I'm like you, LD, in that I enjoy black white and red.

I would never dream of playing competitive Legacy without a deck with access to blue though, unless it was designed specifically to attack blue decks.

You get a combo win con, a stompy mana base, Leyline of Blood Moon, and even Jaya Ballard as a viable option if you want to kill blue extra hard.

Plus a fantastic toolbox off of Imperial Recruiter.

You don't need to play blue to succeed in legacy, but if you have the blue cards, you have IMMENSE options, where if you don't, you basically lock yourself into whatever deck you initially invest in. Not really a problem if you play something like elves or D@T as those decks are almost always gonna be good, but your rolling dice if you decide to buy everything for like, painters servant.

So you don't like blue. Best non blue deck at the moment is probably elves, but you dislike green too.

This leaves you with few options : stompy decks (dragon stompy and MUD are the best), death and taxes, burn, imperial painter.
Burn is fine, but you just lose to combo decks all the time.
Death and taxes is good, but it's a very unforgiving deck (you can't afford to ever make a mistake or you probably just lose because your cards are underpowered) and aòso quite boring if you ask me.
I would recommend imperial painter with white splash. You can play enlightened tutor to tutor both combo pieces, blood moon, ensnaring bridge, whatever artifact/enchantment you decide to play. You can win as early as turn two with combo but also have a solid "prison" plan, free wins with blood moon, and a backup aggro plan (beats with recruiters, painter servant, simian spirit guides). It is very fun to play and skillful, it preys on blue (6 blasts main deck + jaya) and 3+ color decks, while having even to unfavourable matches against mono color decks or decks without blue. Worst matchup is , absurdly, burn, and unfortunately U/R delver which is the most played deck now is difficult to face... but if you play white you have tons of sideboard options and can adapt. Play a blue deck...if not, play D&T.

If you are going to pass on any blue or green deck, your only real options left are Painter, MUD, and Death & Taxes unless you want to play a degenerate deck that folds to Force of Will like Belcher or All Spells. Maybe you should just play Dredge.
