For qualing on the west coast, it's actually a fair bit easier. We have a ton of quality players and with there being 72(ish) PPTQs that are accessible to us instead of the 8/9 PTQs that you could normally grind through, you ensure that the there's much more opportunity for players to get a shot at qualing without having to spike an event attended by pro tour champions, multiple GP winners, and dozens of lesser known players on super teams.
The reason why this isn't a positive for everyone is that in certain regions(east coast for instance) there wasn't the problem of having limited ptqs. Median PTQ finish in 14th, but I've only played in 5 PTQs. If I where living in say, new York, while my median finish would likely be lower, my chances of qualifying would be infinitely higher because I'd have access to so many more events.
The argument that the EV is crap is honestly pretty terrible because for anyone that's actually really trying to qualify for the pro tour, I'd say anything other then winning is a shitty prize. Like, unless it's a 5k, I don't care how much product or store credit you give me.

Yeah the western Connecticut/NY/NJ area really is where you want to be for quantity of events. That area gets you easy drives south and west to cover most territory, and they can easily come up to New England to hit ours. Being in Boston it's a 4hr drive just to get to NYC. Anything farther really isn't worth it.

You cannot say that the Steelers, as the only franchise with six superbowl wins, suck. Historically, they're better than every other team out there.

Everything that makes red good in constructed is garbage in EDH / Multiplayer.
Direct damage and hasty 1-drops suck, yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that red has better card draw and better finishers while white has better wraths and better spot removal. Controlling the game is fine, but in multiplayer, you have to eventually get around to winning the game too. It's also a question of commander quality. No white commander can match Norin or Kiki-Jiki. Even Purphoros and Krenko are better than basically every white legend.
I will admit that white is
sometimes a better support colour, depending on what your deck is trying to do. It's got the best removal in the game on all sides, but you'll generally be counting on your other colours to actually close out the game.
Nice alters, Purp! The island is quite well done.

I do drive to NYC area. But the issue is that there are a limited number of events in MA/RI/NH that are within an hour and a half. For more events Boston folks need to head down to CT and NY, which are 3-4 hours depending on how close to NYC. People who are based in the NYC/NJ/CT areas can just as easily travel up to our events but they can also go west and further south. For them, Philly, Baltimore, DC, and Ohio locations aren't out of the question whereas those mean plane flights for us.

Atlanta is the closest to me for any large event (three hours). I'm looking at going to GP Memphis, Miami, or Charlotte this year. Already let my wife know months in advance so we can try to plan accordingly.
With the new changes to SCG Opens, I'd gladly settle for that type of event. Unfortunately they aren't going to have one within respectable driving distance for the first half of the year.

There is a PTQQ in my backyard in Feb but getting to the regional if I were to win would be a logistic nightmare.

Most of the events out here are at least three hours away. Carpool, it isn't that expensive.

I think you misread what I wrote. I go to all the events within an hour and a half, which includes Boston, Worcester, Providence, New Hampshire, and parts of Connecticut. I also drive down to the NYC area fairly often, which is 4 hours.
My point was that those located in the NYC/NJ area can use that same 4 hours to get both to my local events as well as many more west and south of them, which aren't accessible for Boston folks unless you spend all day Friday driving there.

I posted this in a thread and FB already, but...
I literally just beat a Modern U/R Delver deck on turn 2 with Boros Burn. Wow.
I'm playing a variant of the Champ's Modern list. SO gooood.
